New Entrants
~ This week, we have the return of DJ Khaled along with other familiar faces on the track No Brainer. This is basically I'm The One copied and pasted. There's nothing new or original here. It's just DJ Khaled with some underwhelming production and unnecessary shouting. Quavo sounds like typical Quavo. Nothing too interesting there. I like the contributions from Bieber and Chance, but they're still not that great. So yeah. I don't love this song. I know Khaled is capable of more after Wild Thoughts from last year, which was amazing and my #9 favorite song of 2017. But No Brainer is just boring to say the very least.

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list.

  • Clean Bandit/Demi Lovato – Solo
  • Walk The Moon – Kamikaze
  • Zedd/Elley Duhé – Happy Now
  • Anne-Marie – 2002
  • Marshmello/Bastille – Happier
  • Bryce Vine – Drew Barrymore
  • Jason Derulo and David Guetta/Nicki Minaj/Willy William – Goodbye (DEBUT)
  • Sabrina Carpenter – Almost Love
  • The Vamps – Just My Type
  • AJR – Burn The House Down
  • Calvin Harris/Sam Smith – Promises
  • NF – Lie
  • LSD – Thunderclouds
  • Bazzi/Camila Cabello – Beautiful
  • The Struts/Kesha – Body Talks (DEBUT)

~ First we have four familiar faces collaborating on the song Goodbye. I think everyone did a nice job with the vocals here. The production is not the best, but it's good. Overall, it's a pretty good song. Though it's nothing too memorable. More on it if it manages to debut on the countdown.

~ Next we have The Struts with Kesha on the track Body Talks. I'll say it right off the bat. THIS SONG IS AMAZING! It is an absolute jam! I love the whole vibe of it. It's so enjoyable and so fun. Luke Spiller and Kesha sound great together. Everything about this song works. I really hope we can see this on the countdown soon.

Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. TIE: The Struts/Kesha – Body Talks
1. TIE: Clean Bandit/Demi Lovato – Solo
3. NF – Lie
4. Sabrina Carpenter – Almost Love
5. Walk The Moon – Kamikaze

Summer Throwbacks
~ For the Labor Day edition of the countdown, Hits 1 decided to play some summer throwback hits in between songs. Here is the list.

  • Katy Perry – Teenage Dream
  • Taylor Swift – You Belong With Me
  • Ke$ha – Your Love Is My Drug
  • Pitbull/Ne-Yo/Afrojack/Nayer – Give Me Everything
  • Florida Georgia Line – Cruise
  • Flo Rida/Sia – Wild Ones
  • Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe
  • Meghan Trainor – All About That Bass
  • One Direction – What Makes You Beautiful
  • Sia/Sean Paul – Cheap Thrills
  • Sam Hunt – Body Like A Back Road
  • Robin Thicke/Pharrell/T.I. – Blurred Lines
  • Katy Perry – Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)
  • Eminem/Rihanna – Love The Way You Lie
  • Jason Derulo – Want To Want Me
  • Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee/Justin Bieber – Despacito
  • LMFAO – Party Rock Anthem
  • Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen – Good Time
  • Bruno Mars – The Lazy Song

~ The throwback choices were pretty good for the most part. We only have two songs from last year, which is good. And we didn't pick songs like See You Again by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth, which is not a summer jam. But still, is it necessary to have songs like Cheap Thrills and Want To Want Me? I would prefer a few more older throwbacks than those.

~ We have a few music abominations like All About That Bass, Blurred Lines, Body Like A Back Road, and The Lazy Song. I don't see the appeal with any of them or why they were ever hits to begin with.

~ I do like the inclusion of a few 2012 summer hits like What Makes You Beautiful, Good Time, Wild Ones, and Call Me Maybe. That was definitely one of the best years for summer hits. 2012 definitely has some unforgettable summer jams.

~ I'm very happy with the inclusion of Eminem/Rihanna – Love The Way You Lie again because this is truly one of the best songs I've ever heard in my lifetime. Everything about it works from the way Eminem raps the verses to Rihanna's mesmerizing performance in the chorus. There is absolutely no reason to dislike this song. It is simply incredible. It still gives me chills sometimes. So yeah. I'm glad Hits 1 continues acknowledge it.

Top 5 Summer Throwbacks
1. Eminem/Rihanna – Love The Way You Lie
2. Owl City & Carly Rae Jepsen – Good Time
3. Flo Rida/Sia – Wild Ones
4. One Direction – What Makes You Beautiful
5. Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe

No Blurber
~ Khalid/Normani – Love Lies has made its way up into the Top 10, which definitely makes me happy. This is a highlight in Khalid's discography and I'm glad the song is finally getting successful even though it's been out for the majority of the year.

~ Can we please let NOTD/Bea Miller – I Wanna Know drop more? This song is not that good and it has stayed this high up long enough. Seriously, the drop is actually getting pretty annoying.

~ Weezer – Africa made a nice jump on its second week. Hopefully this means it'll do well here. Considering how well it did on Alt Nation, I have a feeling it'll around here for a little while, which is what I want.

~ Dua Lipa – IDGAF really should not be here anymore. This stay is about as unnecessary as Kelly Clarkson – Love So Soft was. IDGAF has lost all steam and was never even that good to begin with. So I think it's about time to say goodbye.

~ The no Spanish edit of Cardi B – I Like It took a massive drop this week. I kind of forgot the song was even here. It stayed longer than I thought it would for a song that's barely two minutes. So I'd be okay with this leaving us soon.

~ As far as the exit goes, we say goodbye to Meghan Trainor – Let You Be Right this week. This is definitely a good thing. Meghan Trainor's new album was pushed back and now it's set to release in January of 2019. So thankfully we'll be able to go without Meghan Trainor for a little while. I'm not looking forward to this new album. I don't get good vibes just by simply looking at it. And if the album is anything like these first two singles, then it will not be a fun listen. But I have a very good feeling it'll flop since people have thankfully lost interest in her for the most part.

    1. I think some people can explain it better than I can. But to put it simply, I don't really like what the song brings. It basically encourages people to be lazy and just sit around. He's not setting an example for people with this.

    2. I don't hate it as it is kinda catchy, but I don't like it either

      Delete
    3. Because it's lazy for someone who actually tries hard like Bruno. Even his more generic love songs like Just The Way You Are and Grenade are better than this lazy piece of musical trash, at least he put some actual effort, but this has none.

  12. *looks at the summer throwbacks list* Okay wtf? These are not summer throwbacks, they're just random pop songs that were popular a couple years ago. Even if some of the songs are really good, what they call that list is so misleading.

Also, that throwback pick (although it isn't really a throwback pick) and most missed pick are both great.

    2. And as for your rankdown, don't totally count on me getting to it at this point. School has been keeping me pretty busy, so time could be an issue. 3. Waffle: I see what you're saying, but popular songs from before 2005 or so are just as much of hits as the songs Hits 1 picked are. No reason to discriminate based on year.

    4. Umm, all of them were big hits during the Summer of their respective years, you can check the charts yourself if you want. They are throwbacks, and they are Summer hits, you're just so fucking wrong is all.

So??? They're Summer hits from different years, they are just as much throwback Summer hits as anything from before 2010 is.

  25. So, here's an interesting (maybe not really) piece of trivia I have: you all remember Noah Cyrus, right? Who had a few songs that showed up here, some of which were crap (in before . calls me slanderous) and some that were kinda interesting. The other day, I watched the Studio Ghibli movie Ponyo, and in the US Disney English adaptation, the titular character was voiced by Noah Cyrus herself. The company is mostly about anime-based animated movies. Just thought I'd share that :P

  40. Well, just got back from the Eagles opener, the Kickoff Game. And while it was really cool watching them unveil the Champions banner, but then came a rematch of the Divisional Playoff last year against the Falcons. To say the least, this round was as literal an example of deja vu as it gets. It wasn't the best played game everything taken into account, there were so many penalties and things got crazy, but we managed to retake the lead with over two minutes left and then the end was, again, a repeat of the playoff game. Five stops at the goal line. FIVE. Unreal.

I'm sure Montavis is, well, less than pleased right about now. :P

    7. Wait, I don’t think In My Blood dropped that big, it’s just that DSR is skipping a chunk of the countdown.

    8. Well, the last Saturday on by birthday was in 2012. It was a bad week because my favorite song on the countdown, This Is Love left that week. In my birthday weekend of 2013, my favorite song on the countdown also left and it’s my #1 on the 2013 Billboard YE Rankdown.

  62. I used to love coming to the comments on this blog and see what other music fanatics like myself think about todays music. But, now all this blog has become is a place for hate. Chase, you have got to calm down. If you aren't muture enough to see swear words then maybe you shouldn't be here. Also, everybody is entitled to their own opinion. The point of this blog is to discuss todays music. Adrian, thank you for keeping up such a great blog for all of these years! I look forward to reading it every week, however the comments are completely out of hand.
