Blurbs
~ I'm going to keep the blurbs minimal this week as I have other posts I want to get done. But there are a few things I want to comment on.
~ First off, Zayn/Sia – Dusk Till Dawn entered the Top 10 this week, which I find quite impressive given that it's not necessarily a hit outside of Hits 1. But this is a quality song that deserves the treatment it's getting on this countdown. So I'm definitely pleased with this rise towards the top.
~ We also see Macklemore/Kesha – Good Old Days rising into the Top 20 this week. I'm very pleased by this as well. I would love to see this become another big hit for Macklemore. It's very deserving. And following right behind, we have One Foot from Walk The Moon, which is the only debut from last week that made a reasonable jump of more than five spots. Another favorite of mine that I'm glad to see doing well so far. Both of these songs deserve all the success they can get.

First, and it's nice to see Sober Up by AJR featuring Rivers Cuomo in red. F**k everything about this song. And AJR in general. I'm honestly so sick of these guys right now.
ReplyDeleteAnd your thoughts on Justin Timberlake's new single?
Having now heard it, I have to say it's kind of weird, and I worry about him turning into one of those brag rappers. I'm not totally on board with it yet.
DeleteMy thoughts. I've heard plenty of criticism while surfing on Pulse Music Boards.
DeleteYeah, sounds like it's even more polarizing than Look What You Made Me Do by Taylor Swift.
I honestly really like the song. It is most likely a Hit-Bound entrant this weekend.
DeleteUnlike Look What You Made Me Do, which is clearly an F rank despite Miles and Montavis both being major apologists of it, I do think this might be at least somewhat better received because of Justin Timberlake's natural talent. I don't know.
DeleteI'm not sure I'm totally on board with it yet. It's definitely a strange release from him. I'm hoping the rest of the album isn't like this.
DeleteAs far as my opinions go, I'll probably be in the middle. I don't necessarily hate it, but I don't love it. But something tells me that you'll probably won't like it when all is said and done. I'm not assuming; that's just my guess.
DeleteAnd no worries, Adrian. I highly doubt his album sounds more like this. Remember Perfect Illusion? Almost nothing from Joanne sounded like that. (i.e. Million Reasons)
*Sees Sober Up in red* Well, can't say I didn't expect it.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, nice post Adrian!

Heh, I was kinda hoping this type of reaction from you.
DeleteThat said, I'm totally with him on putting Sober Up in red. And I don't just say that because I'm sick of AJR, either.
#1 Recommendation For Hits 1: New Politics - Color Green
ReplyDeleteYeah Anonymous. Let’s get it to debut Hit Bound soon.
DeleteThat’s a great idea ATR.
DeleteThe time difference in these comments tells me that you are commenting as Anonymous, ATR.
DeleteActually, ATR isn’t commenting as Anonymous.
DeleteYou think he is commenting as Anonymous. But he’s actually not.
Spyder Harrison said he was sick all week, but will still host the WC this week.
ReplyDeleteHuh...interesting.
DeleteTo clarify what I said above, calling Look What You Made Me Do "F rank", sometimes I'll rank songs based on what I think their general consensus is.
ReplyDeleteS rank: Almost unanimous praise with very few detractors and that you can expect on most Best Hit Songs lists (ie I Took a Pill In Ibiza, Shut Up and Dance, Style)
A rank: Mostly positive. Does have a share of detractors, there might be that one worst list it ends up on but overall the praise outweights the backlash (ie 24K Magic, The Hills, Lean On)
B rank: Overall a decent amount on both sides, might get some backlash but has a good amount of praise going for it (ie Something Just Like This, Can't Stop the Feeling, Ride)
C rank: General public is overall more "meh" on it than anything else, there may be fans but overall reception isn't big on either end (ie I'm The One, Cheap Thrills, Sugar)
D rank: Mostly negative. Does have its share of defenders, but overall the detractors outweigh the praise (ie Closer, Shape Of You, Despacito remix)
F rank: Are almost unanimously thrashed and you can expect them to be on several Worst Hit Songs lists (ie Look What You Made Me Do, Body Like A Back Road, Work From Home, most meme songs)
Here it is, guys! First AT40 countdown post of the year is out!

Havana at #1 for the second time on the AT40? No!
DeleteOh, darn it! I forgot you didn't like that song.
DeleteWell, you better hope it doesn't hit #1 tomorrow on the countdown then.
Alright, guys. Hits 1 just updated their voting poll.
ReplyDeleteSongs available to vote: (spoilers)
Wait by Maroon 5
Filthy by Justin Timberlake
Finesse by Bruno Mars featuring Cardi B. (YES!!!)
So, Cardi B is not edited out? OK then. I'm very happy about that and the other two.
DeleteWhile we're on the subject of new music...
ReplyDeleteNEW MUSIC ALERT: For You by Liam Payne featuring Rita Ora
I don't know about the rest of you yet, but I'm loving this right now! Rita Ora's vocals are spot on, and Liam doesn't disappoint at all.
I listened to this a little bit today, it is actually pretty solid.
DeleteWell, I'm trying to get my AT40 post out, but headaches and my Internet going out every 10 seconds it isn't helping. I will try again tomorrow, sorry guys.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, my Internet went out trying to publish that comment.

ReplyDeleteAlright, guys. First countdown of the new year starts right now! Here are the exits:
ReplyDeleteNick Jonas – Find You
Linkin Park – One More Light
34. Taylor Swift featuring Ed Sheeran and Future – End Game (DEBUT)
ReplyDeleteHow about we let this song be the Shape Of You of 2018.
DeleteI doubt it will. It's not dominant in sales or streaming. Also, something else will come along before we know it.
Delete33. Fall Out Boy – Hold Me Tight Or Don't (DEBUT)
ReplyDeleteBiggest Drop: Kesha – Praying [–15] (Nooooooooo!)
ReplyDeleteIt did leave the Hot 100, and make this Year-End countdown, so I'm satisfied with how it fared.
DeleteAlso Biggest Drop: Taylor Swift – ...Ready For It? [-15] (Noooooo!)
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete21. ZAYN featuring Sia – Dusk Till Dawn [–11] (Dang it!)
ReplyDeleteEpic fail, guys: Spyder Harrison made a mistake by saying New Rules had the biggest jump, when it was actually River that got the honor.
ReplyDeleteGet your facts right, Spyder!

ReplyDeleteSelena Gomez featuring Marshmello – Wolves
and...
Post Malone featuring 21 Savage – Rockstar (ARE YOU F**KING KIDDING ME?!?!)

DeleteROCKSTAR HAS ENTERED THE TOP 10?!
DeleteUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!!!!
Yeah ATR. It better not hit #1 on this countdown.
DeleteI swear to f**king God, if Hits 1 EVER lets this hit #1...
DeleteI’m going to be pissed.
DeleteOkay. Whoever hits #1 this week, it better hold on tight to that top spot until something better comes along. Keep Rockstar away from #1 as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteOur Top 5 consists of (in no particular order):
ReplyDeleteLet Me Go
Thunder
Perfect
Havana
Bad At Love
I don't care who hits #1 at this point. I hope all of these songs stay in the Top 5 for as long as they can to keep Rockstar out.
Our #1 song this week is...
ReplyDeleteImagine Dragons – Thunder!
Is my headache getting worse or is Rockstar seriously in the Top 10.
ReplyDeleteIt's true, unfortunately. Rockstar is indeed in the Top 10. Goddamn it.
DeleteI'm honestly shocked it is doing this well so far.

I'm sorry if this sounds stupid, but do you have to pay to be on the Wutchuwant Crew? (Again, sorry if it is a stupid question)

What’s interesting about this post is that you have 3 songs in purple.
ReplyDeleteYeah I had a very hard time choosing between those three, so I just decided to do all three instead of just one.
DeleteHey guys on my YouTube channel I made a video of my Top 50 Favorite songs of 2017 I would love to see your feedback if you have the time to check it out. It'd be greatly appreciated
ReplyDeletehttps://youtu.be/2optFanH4GM
ReplyDeleteAlso, I didn't mention this earlier, but that picture though. Halsey just looks beautiful!
ReplyDeletehttp://kworb.net/pop/
ReplyDeleteAn iTunes update: Justin Timberlake's new single, Filthy, is still at #2 behind the Finesse remix from Bruno Mars. I'm guessing this means that people aren't too fond of Justin Timberlake's latest single after all. Something tells me this will get hit by bad radio callout scores.
I've heard some people see it as a grower, but I won't be surprised if it ends up being Look What You Made Me Do all over again.
DeleteAlso, Finesse is definitely debuting on the Hot 100 on Tuesday, even with only one day of sales and streaming and four with radio.
Am now watching Ed Sheeran's episode of The Simpsons :D It started a little late because of football post-game coverage, though.
ReplyDeleteMY TOP 45 OF 2017 IS OUT!!! Enjoy!

DeleteHell fucking yeah! 'Bout time we got some damn action on the pop radio charts!
ReplyDeleteWatch your mouth, Dylan. Do not say the f word.
DeleteListen ATR, I'm sorry if it offends you. But I'm using freedom of speech here.
DeleteI say ATR because it is quite obvious that Anonymous is him (Most of the time).
DeleteActually, I’m not ATR.
DeleteYeah right. Every time ATR or you comments, the other one (Whether it be ATR or anonymous) always seems to comment right afterwards.
