Ed Sheeran (3) – Week Of July 1, 2017

Hey guys! As you may have noticed, comment moderation is now off. People have been asking if it could be turned off. I was already contemplating it because the comments were looking better and due to the fact that I'm not always able to approve comments right away, I don't want to keep people waiting. I think from now on, I'll just monitor the comment section and delete comments that don't follow my basic rules. But that doesn't mean comment moderation is gone forever. If it gets out of control again, I will not hesitate to turn it back on. But for now, I trust you guys. Also, sorry for the late post. Fourth of July weekend really took away a lot of my time. • LMFAO – Party Rock Anthem
  • fun./Janelle Monáe – We Are Young
  • Iggy Azalea/Charli XCX – Fancy
  • Magic! – Rude
  • Miley Cyrus – Party In The U.S.A.
  • Cee Lo Green – Forget You

~ We have too many songs on here from the past two years. There are only a few songs on here that I would actually call throwbacks. Songs like Party In The U.S.A., Forget You, E.T., California Gurls, Give Me Everything, and Airplanes.

~ It's nice to see songs like Call Me Maybe, Payphone, We Are Young, and What Makes You Beautiful, all of which helped make 2012 a great year. However, I think a significant 2012 summer hit was missed in the form of Owl City & Carly Rae Jepsen – Good Time. That song, which was a six-time #1 song towards the end of the summer of 2012, is still remembered by me as one of the best summer songs we've had and my favorite of 2012.

~ This list isn't bad for the most part. We do have some unpleasing songs like Rude, Cheerleader, Blurred Lines, Ride, and of course Forget You, which I still to this day can't stand.

~ I don't know why, but See You Again really does not hit me as a summer song. Sure, it was a song popular in the summer. But I picture summer hits as songs you can blast on a speaker while you're out in some park on a bright day barbecuing, playing, and having a good time. See You Again is not that type of song. It's quite depressing. But I guess Hits 1's definition of "summer song" is the generic "song popular in the summer".

~ Of course we have three songs from 2013 that were dominating towards the end of the summer all at the same time: Radioactive, Love Somebody, and Blurred Lines. Radioactive was obviously dominating at the #1 spot while Blurred Lines spent most of its time at #2, with Love Somebody at #3. Then with a miracle, the latter managed to squeeze up to #1 (continuing the Maroon 5 at #1 streak). Radioactive is still a good song despite being overplayed. I still remember enjoying it BEFORE it got popular, which is partially why I got sick of it. But Love Somebody was always good, and Blurred Lines pretty much always sucked.

~ Speaking of 2013, it appears Cruise also made it on here. After all the success, it ended up proving itself to be one of the most popular country songs to land in mainstream and Top 40 hit radio. Although a lot of stations did play the Nelly-remixed pop version, Hits 1 stuck to the original country version, which is still good.

~ This list would obviously not be complete without the infectious Party Rock Anthem, which was in all of our heads back in 2011. And it ended up being the only LMFAO song that didn't suck after having heard Sexy and I Know It and Sorry For Party Rocking.

~ Of the three Katy Perry songs, I'm most happy about E.T., which is one of my Top 3 favorite songs from her. Last Friday Night took a little while to grow on me as I found it quite annoying at first. California Gurls was good, but I remember hearing it so much back then that it got a little annoying.

~ I'm pretty shocked Airplanes make it on the list, but I'm very happy. This was a huge favorite of mine back when it was popular and it's nice to see Hits 1 have an actual throwback hit for once. Hayley Williams' chorus was one to always get stuck in my head to the point where I was always singing, "I could really use a wish right now." And this was about the time when I was really into B.o.B's music. Definitely the best song on here. Thank you Hits 1 for putting in the list.

Top 5 Summer Hits
1. B.o.B/Hayley Williams – Airplanes
2. fun./Janelle Monáe – We Are Young
3. Maroon 5 – Payphone
4. Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe
5. Pitbull/Ne-Yo/Afrojack/Nayer – Give Me Everything

I'm sorry I understand that Summer can take the time out of some people, but for me, I don't have that much of a problem.

    2. "Boom Clap (GREEN) [I still cannot believe you still hate this]"

Miles, let's not quite go there on that one. He used to really love it at first. But with time (and of course, overplay), he got tired of it to the point where he had it in orange. Believe it or not, this was the first song in which he had it in purple and orange throughout its tenure.

    3. Parker: No it's not, what you are saying is that a nuke on online internet culture is worse than an overproduced, sheer sludge of a boring ballad, with unnecessary high falsettos from Puth, and Khalifa sounding off key. No, I'd rather a song with a crazy dance craze that got to a billion views, AND surpassed the awful Baby by Justin Bieber, and hold the title as the #1 most viewed on YouTube for nearly 5 years. You are only saying that because you like rap and Wiz Khalifa, do not lie to yourself.

Montavis: I know, I read back the old posts, but I would like to know why he still doesn't like it, it's been nearly 3 years already.

    4. I also noticed that he has Fancy in red two and a half years after it's long gone.

And yet he has Shut Up and Dance in blue.

  5. Quick spoiler alert: Shape Of You may just spend 5-7 weeks in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, as it's radio declines slowly, sales remain stagnant, and only YouTube and Spotify have small showings of it's inevitable, slow decline.

Long story short: It will not fucking leave for more than a month.

    1. The guitar riff samples from Santana's awful Maria Maria, and made it more tolerable, Rihanna can maintain actually sounding sexy while being "white girl wasted", a solid verse from Bryson Tiller, and the aforementioned guitar sounding great, as well as the rest of the production. My problem with you though, is why you never explained why you hate it, same with I'm The One, and if you did, obviously you didn't do a good job explaining it?

    4. It hit the top 5 earlier in it's chart run on the Hot 100, and peaked in the top 5, it's not flopping, it's running it's course as sales, streaming and radio (What ever radio airplay it had) it's fading out naturally. If it had flopped, it would not have peaked in the top 10 and stay there for months.

    1. Not only was it stuck in all our heads throughout 2011, but it's like #5 on Billboard's Greatest of All Time and is all but certain to be the #1 song of the decade. ...That is, unless Shape Of You or Despacito keep their momentum hard.

    2. Good to see that you don't like Sexy And I Know It. I do make the YouTube critic comparisons a lot, but still, that one is NOT one with good fanfare. (And I swear if Parker fanboys over it I will lose it)

    3. You know, Miles. Instead of just calling songs a flop before they're released, how about we wait and see how they chart first, for once?

      Delete
    4. I could but I won't because, one no one really remembers or cares about Echosmith anymore, two they had one maybe two hits, Cool Kids and Bright, and they were just moderate hits, and finally they're just forgettable.

      Delete
    5. That maybe true, but unlike you, I'm not gonna say the song will flop for that reason. However, you do bring up a good point. You basically have to stay relevant in the music industry in today's day and age, but that's kinda hard to do, given that many of the biggest names have flopped with recent singles.

The sad thing is, we need someone (and it has to be an artist we really like) that can actually save pop music, because I'm tired of all the trashy rap songs taking over Billboard (with a few exceptions). Unfortunately, I don't know anyone that will really be a big superstar that many of us will come to love for the next decade or so.

      Delete
    6. We actually are having this type of discussion on Pulse Music Boards on what can overtake Despacito at #1, with people saying Taylor Swift, Eminem, and even Twenty One Pilots.

But that's my point, Echosmith has very little relevancy in the realm of pop music, with one, maybe two hits and nothing else. And that was back in 2014-2015, times changed in just a few short years since then.

I do agree, I am tired of all the rap that infests the charts, and I blame it all on my generation for that. And we don't know who will hit it big in the industry, and who will dethrone Despacito. Could it be Taylor Swift, if she has her next album on Spotify with sales and radio inertia, yes. Will it be Eminem, I doubt it, he hasn't had a top 20 hit since Monster, and he'd need a pop superstar like Rihanna (again) to hit #1. Will it be TOP, doubt it, HeavyDirtySoul had some presence on the rock charts, but it never really crossed over into the mainstream, so I doubt a TOP lead off will hit that high.

    1. And now I am sad that an overproduced rap ballad that has no right to be as big as it did, surpassed the song that forced Billboard to update it's algorithm to include streaming and YouTube views in 2013. That, and Gangnam Style was a nuke on internet culture and spent nearly 5 years at the top. And why the Hell did you have to break that news, now we're going to have Parker act like an idiot and say

  35. Someone has to say it, because no one else has the balls to do it; this community and it's comment section is pure cancer.

Parker, your nothing but an immature teenager, who lives behind a screen of shitty rap and awful memes. Your the reason why people hate millennials, obnoxious attitude, self-righteous bastardization, and a blight on the next generation.

., your nothing but a white knight, always trying to stop a fight and act like the "voice of reason," but instead you make it worse. Just stay the fuck out of it!

Leah, no one fucking cares about how your life has been. Your younger than Parker, and you act like a total fucking idiot!

Sasha, you can never even explain in a good reason why you love/hate any songs. Your so lazy to do so, you can't even come up with a good reason why Wild Thoughts is bad.

Chase, no one here fucking likes you, your a fucking retarded troll, who's sole purpose is to annoy the living shit out of everyone here, no wonder Miles hates you.

WAMB10, no one fucking cares about the number of songs that leaves/enters, the point is what people think of the songs TAHT ACTUALL ENTER! And all you are is a fucking generic teenager who likes shitty pop artists like Ariana Grande, Camilla Cabello and Haillee Steinfeld.

Adrian, how about you actually ask someone for some fucking help on the blog? Instead of just delaying the post for a week or longer, at least ask someone to help you, and stop being so Goddamn lazy.

Miles, your nothing more than a blatant rip-off of Spectrum Pulse, Todd In The Shadows, TheDoubleAgent, and others. How about you get your own opinions for once, and stop living in a fucking bubble for once!

The only people who have a sense of reason are Graham, Scott, Jack, and Montavis. The rest of you need to get your fucking act together, and grow the fuck up!

Sasha: She's probably the only one here who gets 2+ quality posts out on time every week, so she's not always gonna have time.

Chase: I'm like 50/50 on whether he's a troll or autistic, but either way no one has been too nice to him.

WAMB10: Even if all she does talk about the exits too much, no one has ever kindly yolk her to take it down on them a bit. And she can have her own opinions on artists.

Adrian: This one pisses me off. Do you not realize that we have lives and aren't going to sit around on the couch on an iPad all day?

Miles: I kind of have noticed the similarities as like more than half of his top 10 songs for 2016 matched TDA. But maybe he just has similar opinions which is fine.

The Anonymous Commenter Above Me: Would you walk up to everyone you know and give your honest opinion on them? That's basically what you're commenting and it's comments like these that make this place more hateful. There are other people you mentioned that have as well who I won't name, but it's also comments like these.

      Delete
    2. No he's not, he's trying to win any argument with fucking unnecessary memes. No real person would ever take him seriously.

Trying to help, doesn't make it any better, when you have to get involved, with every fucking argument, I bet he'd get involved with this one and prove my point.

So, autism is not a fucking excuse! She needs to fucking grow up and act mature.

Yeah, 'cause her latest post on half of Evolve is so much quality, she can't even explain her own opinions on them.

He should fucking leave, he's so stupid he can't see that hate. It's sickening how dumb this person is, and I've seen some really fucking stupid people in my life.

Well it needs to fucking song, because it's not the number of exits that matter, it' the fucking songs, period.

And I don't remember Adrian or most of you saying you have jobs to do over the summer did you? The only people I know who have said they work is Scott and Jack, the rest of you have no excuses.

Or maybe he's just a fucking rip-off who's never had his own opinion in his entire life.

I'd rather be honest to someone, than spare someone's feelings. if you can't handle the truth, no matter how blunt then you probably shouldn't be on the internet at all.

      Delete
    3. Isn't Sasha a boy? I think that's a male name in Russia.

      Delete
    4. The only reason that this blog is 'cancerous' is because anonymous commenters insult anybody that they can find without telling us who they are. And if they can't even read the blogger's post before insulting them... For example, you said I don't have a job over the summer? Well, if working on a farm eight hours a day, as I mentioned frequently, isn't an excuse to be late, or to cuta bit off a post, I don't know what is. If I read through a post quickly, I look at the colours (the songs), the top 20 review, and the top and bottom 5s. So when I am rushed in my blogging time, I cut down the opinions a little. The only time someone<s asked me for an opinion is Miles about Wild Thoughts, so you can<t just go generically and say that I don't give opinions on any songs. If you think I did, then why didn't you ask me earlier than take off in your tantrum. And blogging for four years can take a bit of enthousiasm out of someone, so cut Adrian some slack. He's the reason all of us started blogging, so without him there would be no blogging community. You should also learn to respect opinions: if WAMB10 cares about the number of exits, let her be. Nobody cares except you.

I don't know how the rest of them will respond to this. Som might even abandon blogging ffor a while (that is what you wanted?): I would have last year. But after a year of blogging, but now I don't care what people think. I blog more because it is fun than to impress others. So your comment had no effect on me whatsoever. Oh, and also, I did my latest post to say that I would actually do a review of Evolve. Working on the farm gave me extremely little time. And you're the only one hiding behind a screen: You can't even divulge who you are.

You have to understand that us bloggrs have lives. We do things. Not just work, because work is not the only excuse. We play with friends, family, or alone, or whatever, the point is, we enjoy our vacation. If you can't stand the blogging community, leave. We would all prefer it. Don't go aroung every chat place and ruin it for everybody. Don't tell me that its already ruined; once we put our hats back on our heads it will all roll fine again. We are just at a down right now.

I have no clue why you decided to comment. I hope more people than me are not affected and learned how to not get affected by stereotypical bullies like you. You have so many holes in all of your complaints that the only person that looks bad is you. Sure, I see that Parker uses memes a lot and that Adrian is late regularly, but I am not angry, because you see, I understand that they have their reasons. Everybody has reasons for everything.

So explain to me, please, what is your reason for insulting everybody^

      Delete
    5. Because if no one else is going to actually speak out and say something against this abhorrent stupidity by Chase, Parker, WAMB10, and Miles, then maybe I fucking will.

What reason has Parker given to us to be so fucking childish and use the lowest form of arguments, via memes?

What is the fucking point to the number of exits, besides the actual songs that leave?

Why is it considered "an excuse" to be retarded like Chase and comment nonsense that literally no one likes?

Why is it that Miles always has to copy off of YouTube critics, and not come up with his own?

And I do it, because you won't do it, . won't, Scott won't, Adrian and Graham won't.

      Delete
    6. As I said, nobody does anything for no reason.
However: a large number of exits makes the countdown more exiting; I don't care what Chase says, there are many people like him out there; the rest ask them. They will give you a good reason.

P.S. I won't insult every blogger out here because, what good will it do? See, you gained absolutely nothing from commenting.

So, Fetish- Selena Gomez/Gucci Mane just surpassed Despacito in iTunes sales today. I don't know how I feel about that, but I guess this means that a chunk of Despacito's sales this week will mean some sort of loss for it. I doubt that a week-by-week basis made it lose 25-33% of it's sales because of Sorry Not Sorry and Fetish challenging it, but I think at most it would have lost 3-5 to about 10%. That and I believe it has peaked in airplay and streaming, where as for YouTube, it averages 20 million a day, It will break See You Again and it's very short lived time at #1.
