#1 Song This Week One Year Ago: Adele – Hello
Biggest DROP!!!... Of The Week: Kenny Chesney/P!nk – Setting The World On Fire (–15)
Biggest Jump Of The Week: Major Lazer/Justin Bieber/MØ – Cold Water (+15)
New Entrants
~ One of the biggest artists of 2016 has debuted this week with her fourth single off of 25, one that I'm sure a lot of people have been anxiously awaiting the release of. I honestly can't blame them though as I think Water Under The Bridge is one of the standout tracks off of Adele's new album. I have grown back into Hello (so you may see it on my year-end Top 45, but I'm not 100% sure it'll be on there). I personally believe that Water Under The Bridge is either the best single off of 25, or it is really close behind Hello. I think Adele's voice shines nice and bright all throughout the song. I love the chorus. It's still not as good as 3 out of the 4 big singles from 21. But for the time being, this song is very enjoyable.

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list:
- James Arthur – Say You Won't Let Go
- Charli XCX – After The Afterparty (DEBUT)
- Lukas Graham – You're Not There
- Daya – Words
- Gavin DeGraw – She Sets The City On Fire
- John Legend – Love Me Now
- Captain Cuts/Nateur – Love Like We Used To
- Lady Gaga – Million Reasons
- Machine Gun Kelly/Camila Cabello – Bad Things (DEBUT)
- Calum Scott – Dancing On My Own
- Dua Lipa – Blow Your Mind (Mwah)
- Shawn Mendes – Mercy
- Fitz & The Tantrums – HandClap
- Rihanna – Love On The Brain
~ I can't really say I'm enjoying After The Afterparty that much. It seems like one of those songs that's just trying to get stuck in your head by attempting to have an infectious chorus. And while it's kind of catchy, it's not doing much for me.
~ I've definitely been enjoying Bad Things a little bit recently. I actually read something about there being Machine Gun Kelly and Camila Cabello collab before this song was released and I was curious as to how that would play out. I do think Machine Gun Kelly is a talented rapper. I've enjoyed a good load of his music and I think he's the shining star in this song. Sure, Camila Cabello is a good singer, but I don't think she really shows off what her voice can do that much in this song. I think she sounds better when she's with Fifth Harmony. Despite Camila's vocals, I do still enjoy the song overall and it would be nice to see some Machine Gun Kelly on the countdown.
Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Shawn Mendes – Mercy
2. Gavin DeGraw – She Sets The City On Fire
3. Fitz & The Tantrums – HandClap
4. Lady Gaga – Million Reasons
5. Machine Gun Kelly/Camila Cabello – Bad Things
Water Under The Blurbs
~ Our Top 5 has not changed. How lovely. I still want to see Let Me Love You hit #1. But it seems that as long as Closer is still dominating, that's not going to happen.
~ Our turquoise songs from last week (Unsteady, Girls Talk Boys, and Send My Love) have all been demoted to official red this week, with the main reason being that they have all spent much more time on this countdown than they should've and I'm just extremely tired of them.
~ It clearly didn't take long for Major Lazer/Justin Bieber/MØ – Cold Water to rebound back into the Top 20. It's as if that drop last week never happened. At least I still like the song. But like I said last week, my interest in it is very slowly fading away.
~ Also jumping back into the Top 20, we have Sia/Kendrick Lamar – The Greatest and Ariana Grande/Nicki Minaj – Side To Side. I'm really pleased by both of these as they are both worthy Top 20 songs, unlike four of the songs occupying spots within the Top 20.
~ With these songs re-entering the Top 20, we also had some songs take a tumble out of the Top 20. The two I'm talking about in particular are Pitbull/Flo Rida/LunchMoney Lewis – Greenlight and Jon Bellion – All Time Low. While I do like the former, I can't really say I care too much about how it does. It could drop out next week and I probably wouldn't care that much. It's seeing the latter drop that pains me. All Time Low has managed to outlive Beautiful Now as it has been here longer than 3 weeks. And I'd like to see it continue living on this countdown. The drop to #28 was uncalled for and quite annoying.
~ As far as our Top 10 entrants go, I'm pretty sure some of us are kind of tired of seeing Ariana Grande – Into You consistently jump in and out of the Top 10. It's the new entrants that are interesting. I'll admit that Niall Horan – This Town is getting slightly boring. It's still a nice song in a way. But if I'm listening to another station like Venus or the Pulse and I see it come on Hits 1, depending on what song I happen to be listening to, I probably won't actually change the station. The best Top 10 entrant this week? The Weeknd/Daft Punk – Starboy. This song had me worried a few weeks ago when it was just chillin' down at #30. Now it finally managed to jump into the Top 10 and I'm happy about that. This song, as well as The Weeknd's new album overall, is really good. Hopefully this song can remain successful on Hits 1 for a little while longer.
~ Gnash/Olivia O'Brien – I Hate U, I Love U has dropped out of the Top 30 this week. We may be seeing the end of this song in the near future. It was nice while it lasted. I'm still glad Hits 1 switched to the original version. The remix is too overproduced and while it may seem fitting while you're driving, it defeats the entire purpose and meaning of the song itself.
~ Kenny Chesney/P!nk – Setting The World On Fire took a drop down to #44 this week. I do think this was a fun country song to have around for the past three months or so. I still enjoy it, so it'd be nice to see it hang around a little while longer.
~ Lady Gaga – Perfect Illusion should honestly not still be here. It did turn out to be the flop I was hoping for. And for a flop, it is spending quite a bit of time in the bottom part of the countdown. In fact, it just broke out of the Bottom 5, which I find reasonably strange. I do not have anything against Gaga. I absolutely love her. But this song is just not good. It'd be nice to see Million Reasons replace it. That one is a nice song.
~ A lot of people in the comment section are talking about the exits/entrants quantity we've been having lately. Here's how I feel about it at this very moment. I don't mind seeing one exit each week for the remainder of the year. The reason behind that is that it increases the chances of songs like Mike Posner – I Took A Pill In Ibiza carrying into 2017, which is one of the things I would like to see. It may sound odd, but that's just how I feel. Thinking realistically, the songs I just can't see carrying into 2017 are Girls Talk Boys, Perfect Illusion, Bacon, and My Way. Everything else seems fair game to me and has a reasonable chance at surviving into next year.
~ The Hit 45 Chart for this week is currently being worked on and will be posted as soon as possible.

ReplyDeleteWhy is Hymn For the Weekend still in purple?
DeleteOh sorry, that wasn't meant to be a reply.
DeleteInterestingly, there has been but ONE week since Hymn For The Weekend debuted that it wasn't in purple. And guess what song was in purple in its spot.
DeleteAnd All Time Low has been in purple alongside it since it debuted.
It was Closer when it first hit #1, I remember that.
Deleteexcept 1 week all time low was not in purple.
DeleteOkay...sorry guys, but that was meant to be a reply just so Chase didn't say "Second!"
DeleteNice post, Adrian!
ReplyDeleteI like Lady Gaga. She fucking infuriates me, and I respect that. She's the kind of artist that's always experimenting, always pushing the boundaries. And to be honest Perfect Illusion isn't even that bad in retrospect. You want a shocking Lady Gaga song that actually flopped, how about when she was screaming Judas a lot in 2011? Yeah, that was her first flop. Honestly we should have seen this coming.
ReplyDeleteSo, quick question - how is This Is What You Came For in orange if it was at least decent to you for a little while while Perfect Illusion was never good?
ReplyDeleteWoah, woah, yo

DeleteNew post on my blog!
ReplyDeleteHopefully 2017 will be a better year for hit music instead of the mediocre at best year we got in 2016.
ReplyDeleteThere was lots of great music in 2016, but mainly the hit music was where the garbage was
I believe so.
DeleteYeah I've listened To a lot of great 2016 music and there were some great 2016 popular music like Jon Bellion - All Time Low for example
DeleteBut sadly others were bland and poorly written
I kinda agree. I would say more about it but I have a hockey game now.
DeleteI hope that 2017 will be a better year for music and the inactive Weekend Countdown.
DeleteSo 2016 was overall a good year for music. I just feel as if we needed more mainstream music, kinda like Ben is saying. It's not my favorite year of the decade, as that title goes to 2013. It's a tough decision as to whether it's better than 2015 though. Right now, I'll say 2015 was better because the mainstream music we had then was better. 2016 was better than 2014 though.
DeleteHow was 2016 good and not mediocre or just bad for you at all?
DeleteWe had good mainstream rap songs such as Don't Mind, 679, For Free, and Broccoli that blew up on the radio and the charts. We also had a few good pop songs like Can't Stop The Feeling and the three Fifth Harmony singles.
DeleteDon't forget the good EDM songs like Light It Up and the two Chainsmokers singles.
DeleteBut it was way too fucking much reggae influenced pop songs filling up the mainstream. The rap was infuriating, the pop was annoying, the country was insipid, and rock and R&B was a non-presence.
Delete...in your opinion. You have yours and I have mine.
DeleteNo actually, there really was too much reggae pop this year. Work, Cheap Thrills, Hymn For The Weekend, Sorry, Cold Water, SML, (TYNL) Don' Wanna Know, ITAPII, The Greatest, and more were reggae/tropical inspired. And really, I can't think of many R&B/rock songs that made a significant impact on the pop charts at all. And we both don't like most of the country already, so there's that.
DeleteI do think there was a little too much reggae, but the good pop, rap, and EDM made up for that, in my opinion
DeleteThe EDM was... overplayed, especially with The Chainsmokers overexposure and Calvin Harris' weak returning collab with Rihanna. The rap... you already know my thoughts, so I won't bore you. The pop on the other hand was more or less the same as it normally is, ranging from great to bad for me. On the one hand we have great songs like Into You and Can't Stop The Feeling, then we get Hide Away and Me Too. Not to mention the mid-late 2000s pop divas like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Britney Spears, (Yes I know she's from the 90s) flopping this year.

ReplyDelete20. In the name of love. Good song. I like it
19. Side to side. Good song. A bit boring at times but the vocals stand out.
18. Unsteady Old. Mediocre.
17. The Greatest Unfortunately, for a song claiming to be called the greatest, it's pretty bland in vocals and production.
16. Kids. Great song I love it. So catchy
15. Cold Water - Meh it's getting old.
14. Fresh Eyes - Good Song. A little too basic for my taste but still good. It's a cute song
13. Scars To Your Beautiful. Good, but a bit undercooked in production. Just felt like they wanted to let the message shine through, but just threw in a subpar beat. Good, not great.
12. Don't Wanna Know - Am I The Only one who LOVES this song?
11. Sit Still, look pretty - Get the new single words on here and get this GARBAGE out
10. This Town - Good Song I really like it.
9. Into you - Old. I hate it now
8. Starboy - really good song
7. Death Of A Bachelor - Good Vocals, hollow music unfortunately. Decent Enough though
6. 24K Magic - Okay. Just kinda bland
5. Treat You Better - Old And it sucks
4. Starving - Mediocre and Bland it sucks
3. Let Me Love You - EHHHHH
2. Heathens - Ugh TOP. Gross
1. Closer UGHHH GROSSER
I don't see what's wrong with Heathens other than the blatantly obvious. But if you choose to ignore all of the obvious its actually really good. And don't give me the excuse "Its Twenty One Pilots" the last thing you want are a bunch of vicious TOP fans going after you.
DeleteAnd Closer I think is too over-hated. (Just not here, everywhere else though it is)

DeleteIs there seriously not another chart we could discuss other than one filled up with unnessecary 5 Seconds Of Sadness songs?
DeleteThe Billboard charts have until either this week or next week until it gets 5sos filled. Oh that reminds me, I think the year end list for 2016 will be released sometime this year.
DeleteIs there a reason for this 5sos-overflow anyway?
DeleteI don't know, probably just re-released their album or something. I don't know, and honestly I don't care, at least until it impacts the charts.

2. If you haven't voted for round 1 of my poll yet, go vote now! I will close it at about 3pm EST. Link: https://goo.gl/forms/KCFHJNEaZoZqISQ73
And I forgot to say, I think Starboy will be #1 on the Hot 100 this week.
DeleteI think it could, mostly because of this:
Delete"The Weeknd's 'Starboy' Bows at No. 1 on Billboard 200 With Third-Biggest Debut of 2016"
This was released by Billboard less than 12 hours ago.
Also on a totally unrelated note, because its December that means that the Holiday 100 chart returned and guess who's #1 again?
Mariah carey-All i want for christmas is you
DeleteAlright guys, hopefully I should have my countdown post out tonight. Sorry once again for the inconvenience.
ReplyDeleteThis Week in Billboard Chart History: In 1966, The Beach Boys' 'Good Vibrations' Ruled the Hot 100
ReplyDeleteThe iconic song reigned 50 years ago this week. Plus, remembering feats by Belinda Carlisle, Michael Jackson & Billy Joel.
Dec. 5, 1987
After tallying five top 40 Billboard Hot 100 hits with the Go-Go's and the No. 3 solo smash "Mad About You," Belinda Carlisle ascended to No. 1 at last with "Heaven Is a Place on Earth." I'm very proud of the success I've had, both with the band and as a solo artist," Carlisle says. It's pretty surreal for a Valley Girl to go from working as a secretary to hitting the top of the Billboard charts within a three-year period, so it definitely meant a lot to me at the time. It still makes me smile to think about it now."
Dec. 6, 1969
Long before it became a derisive stadium chant aimed at losing visiting teams, Steam's "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" crowned the Billboard Hot 100.
Dec. 7, 1991
Twenty-five years ago today, Michael Jackson scored his 12th of 13 career solo Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s, as "Black or White," with its timeless message, reached the top in just its third week on the chart.
Dec. 8, 1990
Best known for uptempo freestyle classics like "Spring Love" and "I Wanna Be the One," Stevie B notched his lone Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 with the ballad "Because I Love You (The Postman Song)." The cut would leave its stamp at the summit for four weeks.
Dec. 9, 1989
Billy Joel provided a musical history lesson (literally, as the song made its way to classroom lesson plans) with "We Didn't Start the Fire." The rapid-fire lyrics helped the single became his third (and most recent) Billboard Hot 100 No. 1.
Dec. 10, 1966
Fifty years ago today, The Beach Boys earned one of the most acclaimed Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s in the rock era's history, "Good Vibrations." The song became the group's third of four leaders; nearly 22 years later, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers returned to the top with 1988's "Kokomo."
Dec. 11, 2010
P!nk was the toast of the Billboard Hot 100, as her "Raise Your Glass" rose to No. 1.

ReplyDeleteHey look, another Billboard Hot 100 prediction for 2016. Also, I know Scott already saw this, because I looked at the comments.
I still don't see how the 2 Bieber songs will be at the top 2 spots. I got my money on One Dance still.
Delete^
DeleteYep, that's right. That video was made by the same guy who's currently covering the Year-End predictions on Pulse Music Board. When you watch that you really see just how ridiculous it is that some of these songs peaked so low.
DeleteAdrian, should you see this, I think you'll be very pleased to see #71.
It's so obvious what #71 is now.

Train - Play That Song is popular. Why would Billboard get rid of it so early?
DeleteAnd Ain't My Fault shouldn't have left.
DeleteWell, we finally lost Panda, which has been a long time coming. It is disappointing that Greenlight left so soon once again. So much for that.
DeleteI shouldn't be surprised that the two other Bruno Mars songs left. But I really hope Chunky and/or Finesse can become hits.
And on a similar note, I just checked the iTunes charts, and they are flooded with The Voice songs on top.
DeleteIf it weren't for The Voice, here's what the Top 10 would look like at the moment:
1. Bad Things
2. 24K Magic
3. Million Reasons
4. Starboy
5. Black Beatles
6. Don't Wanna Know
7. Closer
8. Starving
9. Play That Song
10. Hallelujah (Pentatonix)
Also, Love Me Now is #18 (seven The Voice songs are ahead of it). Definitely because of the album. Looks like he might be having another hit.
WAMB10: First of all, if it doesn't have a lot of airplay, streaming, sales, or YouTube, it is not popular. Billboard tracks the biggest song through a very complex formula that involves those 4 key ingredients.
DeleteNew On Hits 1: Kelly Clarkson - It's Quiet Uptown
ReplyDeleteProbably because Kelly Clarkson was on the Morning Mash Up today. They did that with Mercy but it didn't debut Hit-Bound that week.
DeleteSo, with significant lateness, here is my countdown post:
ReplyDeletehttp://sxmh1wc.blogspot.com/2016/12/december-3-2016-chainsmokers-halsey-8.html

ReplyDeleteYou guys do realize you can answer as many question as possible Right? Within reason, as long as there not overly dumb, ridiculous, or make no sense.
You're listening to the 13 songs, right?
DeleteI'm not gonna say. You'll just have to wait until I reach 10,000.
DeleteIf you aren't, then my question will be useless.
DeleteHit-Bound spins:
ReplyDelete3 - James Arthur – Say You Won't Let Go
5 - Charli XCX – After The Afterparty (DEBUT)
0 - Lukas Graham – You're Not There
1 - Daya – Words
1 - Gavin DeGraw – She Sets The City On Fire
3 - John Legend – Love Me Now
0 - Captain Cuts/Nateur – Love Like We Used To
4 - Lady Gaga – Million Reasons
1 - Machine Gun Kelly/Camila Cabello – Bad Things (DEBUT)
0 - Calum Scott – Dancing On My Own
1 - Dua Lipa – Blow Your Mind (Mwah)
1 - Shawn Mendes – Mercy
0 - Fitz & The Tantrums – HandClap
0 - Rihanna – Love On The Brain
Looks like we're getting four debuts this week, which is a good enough amount of activity for the countdown. Maybe they can squeeze another debut in there too?
I heard After The Afterparty on the way to school. It sounds like a Christmas song for some reason listening to it for the first time in a couple weeks. And it still could be anywhere from 0 to 10 exits as it's only Tuesday.
DeleteI don't think that the Weekend Countdown gets more than 8 exits in 1 week.
DeleteAnd Bad Things need to debut.
DeleteNo it does not. We don't need already terrible vocals from the worst vocalist of the decade.
DeleteBut we need fantastic rapping from one of the best rapping performances of the year.
DeleteMachine Gun Kelly is not a good rapper, and his guest feature only manages to make this already mediocre song into shit.
DeleteOh and Graham, the Weekend Countdown most likely never had over 8 exits in one week.
DeleteI know it won't that's not the point!
DeleteWhat isn't?
DeleteThe exits you damn idiot! The exits are not the fucking point!
DeleteBut Graham said that the exits still could range from 0 to 10 when it should be 0 to 8*.
DeleteI was just saying that anything could happen on the countdown as it's only Tuesday. I know we're not going to have 10 exits.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI agree, that's too many for 1 week.
DeleteIf they're all really good, I'd be okay with it. I care more about the actual quality of the songs. Although sometimes, it's nice to have a big number getting many new songs on the countdown. But again, 7 bad songs entering would made me pissed.
DeleteShe Sets The City On Fire aired again. Maybe that'll be our 5th debut.
DeleteAlso, I need more votes for round 2 of the Billboard poll! https://goo.gl/forms/8h38jeDCjdYuvGcH2
ReplyDeleteWait, Panda left billboard?
ReplyDeleteYAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would have expected Adrian to do something similar to that reaction.
DeleteEasily the worst song of the year, hands down.
Delete"I got broads in Atlanta!"
Sure he does, and THEY STINK!
And yet it not even in my bottom 10.
DeleteI'm gonna guess Work From Home is your worst song of the year, huh? Now I'll admit the lyrics to that song aren't really that good, but for me it's just too catchy. Panda, on the other hand, was an atrocious mess. I cannot stand that song. I'm so glad that it's gone. That was absolute trash right there.
DeleteFor the year end list coming up this month, no question its getting the #1 slot. Overall though, M.I.L.F.$ would be #1.
DeleteNo I love that song! But I definitely see how it's annoying.
DeleteMiles, how is M.I.L.F.$ worse than Work From Home?
DeleteThe lyrical subject matter is both redundant and fucking creepy and disgusting! The trap like beat is loud, blaring and obnoxious, and Fergie's vocals are obnoxious.
DeleteGood news for you, then, and you may have already seen this, but ARTV Reviews (a channel whom Adrian said he's watched before) had that one in the #3 slot of his Top 20 most hated (well, worst, but I call it most hated) songs of the year. And guess what his #1 was.
DeleteWork From Home?
DeleteNope, it's actually Meghan Trainor - Me Too.
DeleteOh. I thought I was going to be right. :P
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteWork From Home was #6. But I was not surprised about Me Too being his #1 least favorite. He has always despised Meghan Trainor as All About That Bass was his #10 least favorite pick in 2014.
DeleteAdrian: Yeah, but it's not just him. I heard most YouTube critics hate Meghan Trainor so much. Also, if I'm correct, I read somewhere that All About Your Bass is your least favorite song of all time?
DeleteI've seen TheDoubleAgent review the top 20 Hot 100 back in the summer and gave Me Too a -1. He also had songs Work From Home, Just Like Fire, and One Dance in the shit tier. And Mark from Spectrum Pulse also gave Me Too as the worst debut of the week. Also TheDoubleAgent reviewed No back in spring and also gave it as the worst song in the top 20. (He still gave it a 0 though.) Also I am very disappointed when he tweeted that M.I.L.F.$ wasn't going to be on the list, eveb after he said it was. Now he has to redo the entire top 10 worst of 2016. I still hope it'll be released this Friday.
DeleteSo Graham, did you listen to any of the other Weeknd songs from the album?
ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't started my Billboard post yet. I'll probably just listen to like 30 seconds from each song.
DeleteJust noticed it's my birthday and I haven't been here in a while so just wanted to say hey everyone !!:)
ReplyDeleteHi Lance! Happy birthday! Glad that your back even if it's not actually for more than now.
DeleteHey Lance, welcome back and happy birthday! :) Can't wait to see your next T45 Chart.
DeleteHey there, happy birthday! That kinda occurred to me earlier today, as well. Wondered if you had disappeared since!
Deletethanks y'all !!:)
Deletewhat are the most airing songs?
ReplyDeletealso, how do you search songs?
Deleteto see what they have?
DeleteOkay since you've asked this a billion times I'll answer.
Delete1. Go to: http://www.dogstarradio.com/
2. Scroll to the bottom and click "Search SIRIUS Playlists".
3. Click on the scroll down bar next to channel and chose a channel to search.
4. Search a song or artist in the appropriate box to see how many times they've been played.
My Weekend Countdown post is finally out!
ReplyDeleteTreat you better has 1 more spin than closer, starving, and this town.
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/SiriusXMHits1/status/806249363601326080
ReplyDeleteDidn't they just release like five new songs the other day?
Also Adrian, if I'm wrong about it being your worst song of all time, can you name any song that is worse than All About That Bass? Or is All About That Bass really that bad?
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be surprised if Panda gave it some competition for him, because he called that one "a legitimate disgrace to music".
DeleteI think Adrian said once that he hated Friday more than All About That Bass.
DeleteAvailable for vote on Hits 1:
