New Entrants
~ We'll get the displeasing entrant out of the way first, which just so happens to Andy Grammers' returning single, Fresh Eyes. This song is a lot more stripped down to simple acoustics as opposed to his previous singles, including the infectious Honey, I'm Good, which I'm sure was stuck in everyone's heads at some point. The main issue here is that I don't think this style of music is for Andy Grammer. I much prefer his upbeat music and I think his voice is also better fitting for that type of music. He has a good voice, but it really doesn't show much on this song. Overall, I think this song would be a lot more fitting on only adult contemporary radio stations, not that AND Top 40 radio. But I do find this song to be pretty boring. Maybe that'll change, maybe not. Only time will tell (and more listens of course).
~ Next up, The Weeknd's return after a short break. This one is called Starboy. I do think this song is really catchy and I really like the production on it (thanks Daft Punk!). The chorus is definitely something that has already gotten stuck in my head. It's for sure an interesting tune and I predict it'll do well on here. It's not his best song. That crown currently belongs to The Hills. But it is different than what we usually hear and I can see this song going far. And I'm sure a lot of people have been anxiously awaiting the return of Daft Punk after 2013's Get Lucky. Glad to have these guys back!
~ Finally, we have the debut single of another One Direction member, Niall Horan. It's called This Town. Similar to Fresh Eyes, it's pretty much entirely acoustic. I really didn't like it at first, but more listens have changed my opinion on it and I think it's a cute song. It definitely feels like there's some sort of Ed Sheeran influence in this song. While I'm sure quite a few people may consider it to be boring, I personally like it. We'll see if this song lasts for a long time or if it follows a path similar to Pillowtalk by Zayn Malik. I sure hope it lasts a while, and it may because it's certainly a different sound compared to Pillowtalk. But time will tell on this one.

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list:
- Ellie Goulding – Still Falling For You
- Bruno Mars – 24K Magic
- Bastille – Good Grief
- Pitbull/Flo Rida/LunchMoney Lewis – Greenlight
- Sia/Kendrick Lamar – The Greatest
- Nick Jonas – Bacon
- Jon Bellion – All Time Low
- Jason Derulo – Kiss The Sky
- Magic! – Red Dress
- Mike Posner – Be As You Are
- Runaground – Chase You Down
- DNCE – Body Moves
- Alessia Cara – Scars To Your Beautiful
- Kungs & Cookin' On 3 Burners – This Girl
~ Scars To Your Beautiful definitely stands out more than Alessia Cara's previous song, Wild Things. It really is a beautiful song with a beautiful message and we don't get many of those nowadays. And Alessia Cara still has that very distinguishable and unique voice.
~ Jon Bellion debuted this week with the track All Time Low, a song that really took me a little while to grow into. But now I just love this song. It's interesting, different, and honestly, really catchy. After being featured in the amazing Beautiful Now by Zedd from last year, I decided to give his music a chance and I'm really enjoying it, this song especially. Hopefully it makes it onto the countdown.
~ After 4 years, Bruno Mars has officially released his comeback solo single called 24K Magic. And I don't like it. And no, it's not just because it has this throwback vibe to it and I tend to bash on songs like that. But honestly, Bruno Mars has changed........and not for the better. Back when Just The Way You Are and Grenade (his two best songs in my opinion) were released, he was kind of this guy trying to get the girl he wants by doing anything for her and calling her beautiful. But now, he's pretty much become a player. It's as though he became this conceited individual who pretty much knows he can get any girl he wants because hey, he's Bruno Mars. In Just The Way You Are and Nothin' On You w/ B.o.B, he sang about how beautiful girls are. And now in 24K Magic, he says, "Bad bitches and ya ugly ass friends." Like he has seriously changed and I don't recognize him anymore. He used to be one of my favorite artists. As far as 24K Magic goes, I feel like it's a rehash of Uptown Funk and Treasure, two songs which I really don't think we need more of. Bruno Mars has a really good voice as shown on his older songs, but he only actually sings a few lines in this new song. Everything else is pretty much him trying to rap or just straight up talking through the song. I'm not impressed by the video. Overall, this song is not an amazing comeback single. I was hoping for more of a Grenade or Just The Way You Are type song, but it appears as though he has moved on from that. Unfortunately, it'll probably end up being really big. Maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit. Maybe I'll grow into it at some point, but I doubt it. For now, I'm not impressed.
~......and Magic! – Red Dress is somehow still here.......
Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Jon Bellion – All Time Low
2. Ellie Goulding – Still Falling For You
3. Alessia Cara – Scars To Your Beautiful
4. DNCE – Body Moves
5. Sia/Kendrick Lamar – The Greatest
Starblurb
~ The entire Top 5 held their spots from last week. So nothing to talk about there.
~ Hailee Steinfeld & Grey/Zedd – Starving climbed into the Top 10 rather quickly. I think this is its fifth week on the countdown and it's already at #6. Talk about catching on quick.
~ I'm pretty damn annoyed that This Is What You Came For is still in the Top 10. Who the hell is still listening to this song??? Let's go, Hits 1. You gotta step up your game a bit.
~ I'd like to question why DJ Snake/Justin Bieber – Let Me Love You is having a shitty countdown run at the moment. Frankly, I think this song is better than Cold Water. So I would very much appreciate a reasonable jump from this song.
~ Twenty One Pilots – Stressed Out has finally dropped out of the Top 30. Now hopefully this song will leave at some point. Hits 1, I hate to break it to you, but you're gonna have to let your love for this band die down a bit, because honestly I doubt anyone is actually still voting for this song.
~ Speaking of songs I doubt anyone is actually still voting for, Panic! At The Disco – Victorious is still here. I'd like to point out that this week one year ago, this song made its countdown debut. The only reason it has not successfully lasted a year (yet) is because of the 6 or so week gap in between when the song left for the first time and then soon re-entered. Will it actually make it to one year? I don't know and I really don't care that much either at this point.
~ I find it absolutely mind-boggling that Meghan Trainor – No is still here. This song was successful what seems like a very long time ago. Because it's super old and already a pretty trash song, I'd like to see it leave as soon as possible.
~ It would also be pretty nice if we could get rid of Ariana Grande – Dangerous Woman. That song can only be played so many times until it becomes absolutely unbearable.
~ I find it very saddening that we have to say goodbye to both Jacob Whitesides – Lovesick and All Time Low – Missing You. Both songs were pretty enjoyable and they definitely deserved the recognition they received, even if they didn't do as well as we had hoped.
~ The Hit 45 Chart for this week is out! Find out if The Chainsmokers can hold at #1 for a second week in a row and a third time overall with Closer!

ReplyDeleteGoddamn it, I was expecting you to like 24K Magic! Like I was seriously banking on the fact of you liking it, and hopefully having your opinions on Treasure and Uptown Funk had changed, but I guess I was wrong yet again.
ReplyDeleteI think that's why I like Fresh Eyes, its because I've listened to Adult Contemporary music for much of my life.
I'm still voting for Stressed Out.
Talk about Perfect Illusion when it re-enters the top 20, or Work From Home's irritating countdown run.
Again, what's so good about the SeeB remix of Hymn For The Weekend, or Heathens?
Yeah, as I said, I was ready for him to not like it, and I was correct. Good news for him but bad news for the fans: it lost #1 on iTunes to Closer again, and its sales aren't quite standing out yet.
DeleteI said on Pulse Music Boards, but I feel like people might still be too sick of Uptown Funk to look forward to more from Bruno Mars right about now. But let's not lose hope just yet. He does still have a Saturday Night Live performance coming next week (the week before the song will debut on the Billboard Hot 100), as well as the album release on November 18th, so let's hope the song can still be propped up. If it suffers the same fate as Rise, Make Me and Perfect Illusion, I will be absolutely heartbroken. This song has 36 plays registered on my iTunes playlist already, so I'm praying to god that wasn't just hype! (Although I do want it to hit #1, I care more about Closer not passing Uptown Funk, and more importantly One Sweet Day, for weeks at #1, as I'm sure I've said.)
Speaking of Saturday Night Live, my family and I are about to watch Twenty-one Pilots there. My parents were asking me what songs they think they're gonna perform :P Anyone else gonna be watching that?
Wait, SNL is on now? I'm gonna miss it soon!
Delete-Miles Washcalus
It starts at 11:35 EST, if I'm not mistaken. So if you're not at a TV yet, you can still catch it :P
Delete*if you're near a TV, that is. It hasn't started at this very minute.
DeleteAs I said last page, I worried that you wouldn't like 24K Magic. And sure enough... I was right. But we'll see what happens from here on out.
ReplyDeleteI also see that Just Like Fire and Treat You Better are both starting to wear on you, the former of which I thought would stick with you to the end. And yet, even at both of those ends... (don't want to jinx it so I won't say it)
It can't be Starving's 5th week because we had no exits 4 weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteNo one fucking cares how many exits we had a month ago, only you do! We actually care about the actual songs.
DeleteEarlier this year, you said be patient of having a 7 exits week and don't say the F word.
DeleteThis is WAMB10, BTW.
DeleteAnd you keep on testing my patience by constantly talking about exits, and not talking about the actual songs at hand. And I will continue to say the work fuck and you can't stop me.
DeleteOmg that's why I said I think. I don't have as good of a memory as you do.
DeleteOkay, but the F word is not okay.
DeleteF**k is okay though.
DeleteFuck.
DeleteI do actually agree with you Miles that 2015 is better than 2016.
Delete-WAMB10
The f word came from the other side of heaven by 😈.
Delete😈 means the devil.
DeleteUse godly words.
Yeah, but we both have different songs that we think are good/bad. I think Uptown Funk is the best, while you think Worth It is. (I think you say Worth it is the best)
DeleteI'm not overtly religious like your seem to be with that kind of language.
DeleteMy parents do not allow bad language.
DeleteLook at me, not giving a fuck.
Delete1. This is Starving's 4th week on the countdown.
ReplyDelete2. My mom will not be happy with Kiss the Sky in red.
3. Jon Bellion is from Lake Grove, about a 20 minute drive from where I live.
-.
Kiss The Sky is another bad Jason Derulo song but it's not as bad as Get Ugly.

DeleteTIMH is a 9/10.
DeleteWhoops, I counted wrong.
DeleteI also gave Emperor's Mew Clothes a 5/10, not Anything Could Happen.
Delete*New
DeleteSeriously, what's wrong with Emperor's New Clothes?
DeleteIt's annoying.
DeleteHow though? Please at least try to explain.
DeleteBrendon Urie's voice is too high pitched for me.
DeleteBrendon Urie is supposed to have a high voice. He's like Adam Levine or a male Mariah Carey. (And please refrain from saying anything about Mariah or I will go all ape-shit on you.)
DeleteBut his voice is a lot higher that the one in Victorious.
DeleteAll the more reason to love Emperor's New Clothes over almost anything else off of the Death Of A Bachelor album.
DeleteBut we all have opinions in our minds.
DeleteThis was my favorite birthday weekend I've ever seen BTW.

Hello (9/10)
I want to know what's so wrong with Somebody That I Used To Know, Adventure Of A Lifetime, What Do You Mean and Royals.
DeleteMy mom loves AOAL.
DeleteSomebody That I Used To Know: It's not my cup of tea and the instruments and vocals are pretty annoying.
DeleteAdventure Of A Lifetime: This song bores the crap out of me and nothing ever happens in it, also the end it quite annoying.
What Do You Mean?: This is one of if not the worst song of 2015. Justin cannot sing as he just mumbles, the production is lazy and awful, and the lyrics are stupid.
Royal: While Lorde is kind of mumbling which is pretty annoying, the song itself has a catchy beat to it but the vocals aren't good.
Dude, Somebody That I Used To Know is the fucking shit. The fact that it's so un-pop is what makes it great to me. It may be one of my favorite songs of all time. It being the #1 song of 2012 is part of what made that year so unique and intriguing.
DeleteI might rate all those later, meanwhile.

ReplyDeleteI absolutely love 24k Magic. Hate to break it to you, Adrian, but this Bruno is never gonna change. Quite personally, I like his retro/throwback type songs much better than those pop-y, modern style songs. Is it just me?
ReplyDeleteThis. I know there are some music critics that prefer his new style - as a certain one says, him "being other people" - more than his old one. And I'm in that boat.

DeleteGuys if you wanna check out my new post that came out yesterday on my Hot 45 chart you are free to welcome.
ReplyDeleteThis Week in Billboard Chart History: In 1991, Mariah Carey Wore Her 'Emotions' at No. 1
ReplyDeleteThe song became Carey's record fifth consecutive career-opening Hot 100 leader. Plus, remembering feats by Elton John, Christina Aguilera & Creed.
Oct. 10, 1992
Patty Smyth's "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough," featuring additional vocals by Don Henley, began a three-week reign on the Pop Songs chart. The ballad from the members of Scandal and the Eagles, respectively, wrapped a four-week command on the Adult Contemporary chart the same week. Now, the song is back, as Russell Watson's version debuted on the Oct. 8 AC tally.
Oct. 11, 1997
Elton John's tribute to the late Princess Diana, "Candle in the Wind 1997," backed with B-side "Something About the Way You Look Tonight," began a 14-week domination on the Billboard Hot 100. It debuted with 3,446,000 physical singles sold and sold 1,212,000 the following week, becoming the first song to sell at least 1 million in a week since Nielsen Music began tracking sales in 1991. No song would break that barrier again for 18 years, until Adele's "Hello" sold 1.1 million downloads (Nov. 14, 2015).
Oct. 12, 1991
Twenty-five years ago today, Mariah Carey notched her record-setting fifth consecutive career-opening Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 with "Emotions." She passed the Jackson 5, who arrived with four straight toppers in 1970. Carey tallied her first four No. 1s – of 18 to date, the most among soloists – from her self-titled debut album: "Vision of Love," "Love Takes Time," "Someday" and "I Don't Wanna Cry."
Oct. 13, 2000
Christina Aguilera collected a third Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 from her self-titled debut album, as "Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)" reigned. "Genie in a Bottle" and "What a Girl Wants" had previously led.
Oct. 14, 1989
Motley Crue rocked its only Billboard 200 No. 1, as Dr. Feel good jumped 5-1. The set yielded the band's two biggest Billboard Hot 100 hits (and only top 10s): the No. 6-peaking title cut and the No. 8 ballad "Without You."
Oct. 15, 1988
This "Wine" got better with age: After tasting modest success in 1984, when the song reached No. 34, UB40's re-released "Red Red Wine" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song – originally a No. 62 hit for its writer, Neil Diamond – resurfaced in 1988 after then-KZZP Phoenix air talent Guy Zapoleon played it to favorable response on his "Would've Been, Should've Been" feature.
Oct. 16, 1999
Creed collected its first Billboard 200 No. 1, as Human Clay soared in at No. 1. The same week, lead single "Higher" began its three-week reign on Alternative Songs (and continued its whopping 17-week domination on Mainstream Rock Songs).

And on that note, #18 is dropping pretty quickly on iTunes, so don't expect it to be big, unfortunately. Though it does have okay streaming. Would've been nice to see Phoebe Ryan get a little more than one song out there that wasn't even a real hit.
52. Do You Mind (up 30)
Delete24K Magic should debut the Billboard Hot 100.
DeleteIt will next week.
DeleteHey guys, sorry I haven't commented in a few days. I've been on fall break at multiple venues doing some different stuff. Yesterday, however, I had a bad accident and hurt my ankle, and I'm in crutches at the moment. Also, I didn't have time to see what the countdown looked like until now, and I'm pleased with it. I might review it in the future. If you want to know my opinion on 24K Magic, I'm split on it at the moment. I'll go into more detail about some of this later but for now I'll go check out everyone's posts.

I have a feeling that Hits 1 doesn't like This Girl.
Deletethis girl is probobly leaving hit-bound
DeleteIt's flopping on the radio too. If someone told me in early August that it wouldn't debut, I would have been shocked.
DeleteBut Red Dress MUST leave Hit-Bound before This Girl.
If I were you, I would wait until Tuesday at least. The reason being is because Monday isn't really a good day to predict what Hit-Bound songs are debuting this week just because so and so got enough airplay that day, although it's obvious that Bruno Mars - 24K Magic will make it's debut next week.
DeleteBut as for the rest of the songs, whichever gets more spins on Tuesday and the rest of the week (besides 24K Magic) will also be making their debuts.
Red Dress needs to leave before This Girl, Though It Won't
