The Chainsmokers (1) – Week Of September 10, 2016

Hey guys! Before we begin this post, I want to quickly talk about something. 15 years ago today was an attack that honestly just left us speechless. On September 11, 2001 (when I was like 2 years old), there were a series of plane crashes, a couple of which had hit the World Trade Center in New York City. One of them was even aimed towards Washington D.C., but after the passengers tried to overcome the hijackers, it ended up crashing somewhere in Pennsylvania. Almost 3,000 people were killed and over 6,000 were injured. So I thought we would have a short moment of silence for those who lost their lives in the attack.

No songs leaving the countdown this week. So let's get right into it.

Cold Blurbs
~ Once again, I was on the edge of my seat hoping that Ride would not be our #1 song. I'm really tired of this. This song seriously needs to get the hell out of the Top 10, even better out of the countdown. I will happily take Don't Let Me Down, Send My Love, or even freakin' Cheap Thrills at #1 over Ride.

~ Calvin Harris/Rihanna – This Is What You Came For is still hitting new peaks. It has reached the peak of Calvin Harris' 2013 smash hit, I Need Your Love. This annoys me so much because this song is nowhere near as good as I Need Your Love. I can't stand the lazy ass drop and the constant repetition of the word "you". It's so annoying! We've had much better dance songs this year.

~ Yuck. Lukas Graham – Mama Said is back in the Top 20. This song is just awful for so many reasons. I swear, if this song becomes as big of a hit as the superior 7 Years, I will not handle it very nicely at all. Lukas Graham will probably forever remain a one-hit wonder group in my book.

~ The Chainsmokers/Halsey – Closer just calmly sits at #15, while it is #1 on a lot of different charts at the moment. Yet Hits 1 feels like they should have the older Don't Let Me Down at #1. Does anyone even like this song anymore? Closer, on the other hand, is much newer, more fresh, and more worthy of the #1 spot at the moment.

~ Looks like All In My Head was never meant to be an actual hit, which sucks because I personally think it's a better song than Work From Home. Oh well. A for effort.

~ I'm having a hard time believe that Hands To Myself and Kill Em With Kindness are both still here. Honestly, both of these songs suck. I'm still waiting for that week when they both leave on the same week. That would be pretty cool to see.

~ I think the best thing that happened this week was the jump into the Top 10 from Coldplay – Hymn For The Weekend. I don't even know what their last Top 10 song was. It must've been a really time ago, if they ever even had a song in the Top 10 on this countdown. But I'm very happy that this song managed to make the Top 10. It's an amazing song. So thank you voters!

~ This past Friday was the release of one of the most anticipated comeback singles of the year. Lady Gaga has officially returned with Perfect Illusion. I went into the song so excited because I love Lady Gaga. I listened to it and I have to say, this song sucks ass. I don't like the production on this song at all. It feels a little messy at times. And my goodness.......what happened to Lady Gaga's voice??? Without a doubt, she is a very talented singer, but she does not show it at all in this song. It sounds like she's screaming more than she is singing. And just when I thought this song couldn't get any worse, we reach the last chorus where the sound completely changes and it's just painful to my ears. After the first listen, I thought, "Hey. Maybe this song is one of those songs that'll grow on me with more listens." So I listened to it a few more times, and it actually got worse. Basically overall, this song is shit and one time it gave me a headache when I listened to it. Huge disappointment from Lady Gaga. It is nowhere near as good as some of her biggest hits like Just Dance, Bad Romance, Alejandro, Telephone, Applause, etc. But since it's Lady Gaga, it's probably going to end up being the most overrated song of the year, even though it is not good.

~ The Hit 45 Chart is currently being worked on. I will try to get it out to you guys as soon as possible.

To conclude, reader/commenter/blogger Miles Washcalus challenged us to, for every post we make, select a song that we either love or hate and explain why. I accidentally forgot to do it in my last post, but I'll just start here anyway. Since I kind of just ranted on the new Lady Gaga single, I'll review a song that I love.

Pretty much all of you know that I mainly listen to pop and hit music, which is why I review Hits 1's countdown as opposed to other SiriusXM station's countdowns. But even though I love most of today's pop music, back in previous years I was a fan of quite a few rock bands and their songs. Bands like Linkin Park, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Nickelback, etc. Right now I'm going to review one of my favorite rock songs of all-time from 2003. That is Bring Me To Life by Evanescence.

I feel like back when this song was released in 2003, it really set an example of how an ideal rock song should sound. The song opens up with very mysterious-sounding piano work followed by Amy Lee's amazing, yet haunting voice. It kind of flows with that mysterious vibe and piano for the rest of the first verse, and then into a more rock sound. It quiets down at the end of the verse and then drops this loud, yet awesome chorus which actually features guest vocals from Paul McCoy from 12 Stones. I absolutely love the back and forth switching of vocalists between Lee and McCoy. The guitar work that is heard in the background is amazing and you can hear it very precisely between the first chorus and the second verse. The second verse is pretty much the same as the first except the rock sound is used for the entire verse. Then it once again quiets down and we get that incredible chorus once again. The bridge of the song contains more fantastic vocals from Amy Lee, which soon builds up to an awesome verse handled by Paul McCoy, with Lee dropping in in the middle. Then we get the chorus yet again. We get a couple more lines from Lee and McCoy followed by the song fading out as Lee sings the final "Bring Me To Life".

The song overall is just a phenomenal masterpiece. I see absolutely no flaws to this song whatsoever. Amy Lee is an amazing singer. I loved Paul McCoy's drop ins. The instrumentation ranging from the piano to the guitars is just incredible. I love the mysterious vibe it has to it in specific parts of the song. It's just perfection from start to end. Personally, I picture this as an ideal rock song. It has everything needed to make it fantastic. It makes me want to just get up and rock out to it, and not very many songs can do that for me. This is definitely in the Top 3 for my favorite rock songs of all-time. This song really did set an example of a high-standard rock track.

As far as other songs by Evanescence goes, there aren't that many other songs that stood out of their discography. I mean, they have songs like My Immortal, which is a little slower and really showcases Amy Lee's voice even more than Bring Me To Life does, and Call Me When You're Sober, which is pretty much another amazing banger track. Other than that, they don't really have much else that stands out. But Bring Me To Life was just too awesome of a song to forget about Evanescence. Every now and then I'll hear this song on SiriusXM The Pulse (channel 15) and I can't help but turn the volume up. You can listen to this song on YouTube and it has also been discounted to 69 cents on iTunes if you're considering buying it. Overall, this song will forever be a favorite of mine.

  2. Wait a minute...

Why is 7 Years in green?
    Why is Cheap Thrills yellow?
Why is We Don't Talk Anymore back in green?
Will Work From Home be red soon, hopefully next week?
Why is Girls Talk Boys in Blue again?
    What's your bottom 5?
Why is Cake By The Ocean pink?
Why is Rise green when it was blue last week?
Do you think there's a conspiracy in terms of this countdown, considering we had no exits this week, CSTF isn't #1 this week and we have a new #1 this week for the second time in less than a month?

    1. - Both 7 Years and Rise in green have to do with really good America's Got Talent performances of those songs.
      - Cheap Thrills is inescapable. It's on every time I'm listening to the radio and eventually, it becomes too much for some songs, Cheap Thrills being one of them.
      - I've come to enjoy We Don't Talk Anymore a bit more again this past week.
      - Work From Home is pretty close to red. Either next week or the week after it'll probably change.
      - I kinda lost interest in it once again.
      - My sudden growing back into Cake By The Ocean is not lasting very long, as it is slowly falling back to where it was before.
      - It's possible.

      Bottom 5:
      1. Mama Said
      2. I'm Not Famous
      3. No
      4. Hands To Myself
      5. Say

    2. I love how for the conspiracy of the countdown he just simply said that it's possible.

    3. For that last question... I'm telling you guys, they're waiting for that time. CSTF will be #1 again on September 24 and October 1, to coincide with SUAD's final two weeks at #1. Hits 1 wants those two songs to be their dynamic dance duo.

    4. And I think that when its not #1 they have a new #1 song and have no new songs enter as well on those weeks.

  3. By the way Bring Me To Life is considered Nu Metal, Rap Rock, Gothic Metal, and Christian Rock. And my favorite rock song of all time is Smooth by Santana and Rob Thomas.

  5. So let's see how many notable acts have made big comebacks within the past year after supposedly becoming irrelevant:
    Justin Bieber
    Adele
    P!nk
    Justin Timberlake
    Katy Perry
    Lady Gaga

I'm probably missing one or two, but those are all the names I can think of.

    1. And I was going to mention Bruno Mars, because it's been confirmed that he'll have new material soon, but given Uptown Funk faded out from the Hot 100 for good at the very end of 2015 (literally right before the Year-End Hot 100 came) and would've lasted even longer if that recurrent rule hadn't been introduced, I'm not sure how "big" a comeback that would be considered.

      Delete
    2. Justin Bieber: 2015 was the year Justin Bieber finally got better. Although that was mostly due to Skrillex.

Adele: Her comeback album and song broke records last year. She broke a decade and a half record by selling 3.3 million albums in 1 week, and both Hello and 25 wen platinum in one week. She's an amazingly talented singer with a powerhouse of a voice and an amazing production and writing staff to back her.

P!nk: Her last #1 hit, Just Give Me A Reason was great, but I don't think Just Like Fire is much better I still think she's a great pop-rock singer.

Justin Timberlake: The 20/20 Experience was a great comeback after 7 years since FutureSex/LoveSounds. But Can't Stop The Feeling is a good song, even if I am getting sick of it.

Katy Perry: Its better than Dark Horse and This Is How We Do, that's for sure. Its not as good as Firework, Teenage Dream or Last Friday Night, but its still a damn good song.

Lady Gaga: Perfect Illusion is such a disappointment. I may grow into it once it hits mainstream radio, but that's a maybe. And this isn't even her worst song, which I may explain in my next few posts 2 songs I find to be worse.

  8. Oh yeah, one other comment I have to make... I'm amazed that I Took a Pill In Ibiza is still in your Top 5. I mean, I'm not complaining, I'd say it's overall one of the better charting songs of this year, as do many music critics on YouTube *cough TheDoubleAgent cough*. But hey, My House ended up in green for its entire tenure and basically everyone else was sick of it well before then, so this shouldn't surprise me as much as it does.

  16. So, on the Kworb radio charts, something that's used on Pulse Music Boards to help people predict when they post the Billboard Hot 100 predictions...

Kinda bad news for some: Cheap Thrills is still #1. Closer isn't even Top 10 just yet. I mean, Ride is #3 and it's far behind that and Send My Love.
Very good news: Make You Miss Me continues dropping. Down to #34 at this time. And it's dropping on iTunes too. Hopefully soon Miles and I can stop worrying! Totally throwing that be-gone party when it leaves the Hot 100.
More good news: Hymn For The Weekend continues gaining. Maybe it'll make that year-end list?!
"What the heck" news: Not only is Shut Up and Dance #46, but both Want To Want Me and Wildest Dreams are still in the last set of 15. And so is Uptown Funk, at #74, but that one left and has since re-entered. I mean, I myself am not complaining, it's just shocking that they're still here, while Hello isn't.

  17. Looks like everyone doesn't seem to like Lady Gaga's new single Perfect Illusion. Even I'm not impressed either.

Just a quick question. Not to be negative, but is it me, or does it seem like the quality of music has been declining? Because outside of a few good songs this year, it seems like some of the music big name artists have been releasing aren't very good (at least based on your opinions). I'm sorry if I meant that way, but maybe I'm overreacting and not looking at the bigger picture?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I can agree that the quality of music is on a little bit of a decline. We were at a better, much higher point in music during previous years. Now it's mostly all this boring country music and annoying rap music that's taking over, and every now and then (less often than before), we'll get a perfect song. But 2016 has really not been that strong of a year in the music department.

    3. No, it's not you. A lot of music critics are calling this year pretty weak. After the wonderful year that was 2015, 2016 has been incredibly underwhelming. Many people have claimed that the acts just haven't cared, and for the most part the year doesn't have a very strong identity to it. Whether you liked 2014 and 2015 or not, at least they had stuff I'm sure we remember, for better or for worse. This year has had Justin Bieber and Drake dominating, and the latter is an act that so many are so sick of at this point.

    4. I know what 2016 could be identified as, the tropical boom. Cheap Thrills, One Dance, Sorry, Castaway, Work, All In My Head (Flex), Send My Love (To Your New Lover), I Took A Pill In Ibiza, Cold Water, Closer, Hymn For The Weekend and probably many more I'm forgetting have a slight tropical feel to it, which in 2016 is like saying there's a little bit of air in your tires.

    3. Miles can you stop with how ridiculous you think Chase's comments are? Because if you say stuff like that, Chase will want to respond and comment something else you probably won't like. He's not gonna leave so just deal with it. His comments are funny, but I see why you don't like them. Apparently he has autism and he can't help with these comments so just deal with it.

      Delete
    4. They're not funny and autism is not an excuse!

      Delete
    5. You might not think they're funny, but these are things you shouldn't say to people in an offensive way. If Chase ever says something like #teamnomiles then that's why!

      Delete
    6. His comments are nothing more than just sheer randomness and has nothing to do with any of the conversations that go on. Randomness from Chase or Leah from that extent are not funny, its obnoxious and annoying and a waste of a comment. And using autism is never a good excuse. Need I remind you people that I have autism, and I do not use that as an excuse. Me, Scott and many other people on this blog have told Chase for months to stop with the ridiculous comments and recommendations, but does he listen, no!

      Delete
    7. But here's the problem: Autistic people always have different levels of autism. You probably don't have it too much to the point where people can't tell, but Chase and Leah might have it worse (IDK if that's a good word to use but you know what I mean) than you. And if they post random comments, they can't help it, like you probably can. You've been telling them to leave for I don't know how long and they're not going to leave, so deal with it. It's nothing they or you can help. If you don't like it then don't comment here, but insulting them makes the comment section a lot worse than what it would be. I'm not telling you to leave I'm just foreshadowing what would happen if you did.

      Delete
    8. Here's the thing. When I comment like what I re-posted about a half hour ago, I want someone to comment about the chart or the song mentioned. Not stupid shit like "Closer needs to be #1 next week" or something random about pink fluffy unicorns dancing on rainbows by Leah. And they need to learn to control themselves. Autism is not like Downs Syndrome, or other mental diseases. Leah and Chase NEED, no MUST learn to control themselves. If they don't then that's that. And by the way I have high functioning autism.

      Delete
    9. Sorry Miles, but I have to agree with Parker. You are getting way to worked up over Chase's comments.

      Delete
    10. And Miles, I have Asperger's Syndrome, which is basically the same thing as high functioning autism.

      Delete
    11. You know what, I don't care! I'm going to keep on doing what I'm doing and there is nothing you two or anyone else is gonna do to stop me.

      Delete
    12. I agree with both of you.

      I agree with:
      - Miles can you stop with how ridiculous you think Chase's comments are?
      - Autism IS an excuse in some cases.
      - His comments are nothing more than just sheer randomness and has nothing to do with any of the conversations that go on.
      - Insulting them makes the comment section a lot worse than what it would be.
      - Miles is getting way too worked up over Chase's and Leah's comments. Leah should be commenting like she was a year ago, not commenting random stuff about Parker.
      -Chase's comments are not funny.
-I think Chase is a non-autistic impostor of the Chase from YouTube, who really does have autism. Kate, however, is probably someone else just trying to annoy us.

  27. This Week in Billboard Chart History: In 2005, Kanye West & Jamie Foxx Struck 'Gold' Atop the Hot 100

"Gold Digger" began a 10-week reign. Plus, remembering feats by Eric Clapton, Madonna & Katy Perry.

    Sept. 12, 2009
Colbie Caillat's sophomore studio album Breakthrough was aptly titled: it debuted atop the Billboard 200 on this date seven years ago, marking her first (and so far only) leader on the list. The set features the five-week Adult Contemporary No. 1 "Fallin' for You."

    Sept. 13, 1997
Mariah Carey coats the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in "Honey," her 12th No. 1 on the tally.

    Sept. 14, 1974
Forty-two years later, he's still a free man. But, on this date in 1974, Eric Clapton topped the Billboard Hot 100 with his damning confession, "I Shot the Sheriff." Reggae icon Bob Marley wrote the song.

    Sept. 15, 1990
Following their debut Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 "Hold On," Wilson Phillips returned to the top with "Release Me." In 2012, the trio reunited for a reality show (Still Holding On) and the covers album Dedicated, which became its highest-charting title on the Billboard 200 since 1992.

    Sept. 16, 2000
Madonna scored her first Billboard Hot 100 since 1995 (and her 12th and most recent leader), as "Music" shimmied to the summit.

    Sept. 17, 2005
Kanye West's "Gold Digger," featuring Jamie Foxx, spent its first of 10 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100. The track is the longest-leading of West's four No. 1s, and the longest-ruling of Foxx's two.

    Sept. 18, 2010
Katy Perry took the title cut of her album Teenage Dream to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. It's one of five No. 1s from the set, the only one by a woman ever to yield a quintet of leaders. The only other album to generate five Hot 100 No. 1s: Michael Jackson's Bad in 1987-88.

  28. Rewinding the Charts: In 1981, Journey Didn't 'Stop' on Its Way to No. 1

The band earned its lone No. 1 album, 'Escape,' featuring 'Don't Stop Believin',' which has become the biggest-selling digital song recorded in the '80s.

FEW SONGS HAVE RESONATED MORE in recent pop culture than Journey's 1981 hit single, "Don't Stop Believin'."

The Chicago White Sox adopted it as an anthem during the team's 2005 march to its first World Series victory since 1917. The song served as the closing number for both the Broadway and film versions of the musical Rock of Ages, was covered by the cast of Fox's Glee and, most famously, played on a jukebox during the controversial final scene of the series finale of HBO's The Sopranos in 2007.

Twenty-six years earlier, the track, which was co-written by lead singer Steve Perry, keyboardist Jonathan Cain and guitarist Neal Schon, enjoyed its first run of success when it became one of four hit singles from the San Francisco band's first and only No. 1 album, Escape, which topped the Billboard 200 on Sept. 12, 1981.

Cain, who was 31 at the time (Perry and Schon were 32 and 27, respectively), tells Billboard that the tune was "inspired by a dare-to-dream idea that there's a destination in your life greater than you can imagine, 'on a midnight train going anywhere,' " a reference, of course, to the song's lyrics.

"Don't Stop Believin' " would peak at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in December 1981, and though it wasn't the album's highest-charting single – "Open Arms" hit No. 2 in early 1982 – it has since become the biggest-selling digital track recorded in the 1980s, with 6.8 million downloads sold, according to Nielsen Music.

Although Perry left Journey in 1998 and the group has undergone numerous personnel changes, "Don't Stop Believin' " remains a concert staple. The band wrapped its latest tour on Sept. 4, but the chances of it releasing a new album with Perry, or reuniting with him, are slim, Cain told Billboard in May. "We've got an open chair for him if he wants to sing a song [or] whatever he wants."

  30. Okay this really is getting out of hand as in scrolling through this comment section. And I have to agree with Parker. I understand Chase had autism and I'd be 99% he was a troll if he didn't have his YouTube channel. But either way be nice to him. I can understand Miles that you think he is annoying and I can see how you think that but it's not his fault. You can't just curse at him for something that isn't his fault. So like say like I was typing the Billboard Hot 100 and I made a mistake which I do on several posts it would be like someone saying "You god damn f**cking idiot" in a non joking way. I'd feel awful. And this is for everyone including even me not just Miles. Chase probably feels awful and he doesn't even know what he did wrong. When I started commenting in August 2014 everything was peaceful and 2 years later this is what is happening. I never could've imagined that we would be cursing and being mean to each other. It's just awful and horrible to think about. Look we all make mistakes sometimes but apologize. And also if someone doesn't have the same opinion as you, you can't get mad at them unless your actually joking that's another issue we've been having. I seriously have just not been commenting much due to this. We're a fam guys and this is logic sense. This might not work but I do have an idea that we can try to maybe get Chase to stop the random comments. It's fine if you remove some of his comments if they get too out of hand I do that sometimes even but don't reply something super mean. And again this is for me also I'm also gonna work on this and this is like the third time in writing this enormous paragraph which is ridiculous. And back to how we can try to stop them. Remove them but only if necessary. And also maybe instead of cursing at him you could ask him to stop. But it's not gonna get to them unless you are clear for example you could say: Chase can you not say:
    Top 2 for June 8, 1985:
