New Entrants
~ I really did expect a little more out of a Katy Perry comeback single. Rise comes nowhere near her best work. It's certainly not a bad song, but it is a little unappealing at certain moments. I think my favorite part is the build-up that leads into the chorus. But that's about it. I'm not really loving the chorus. Plus, I think we've already gotten enough self-empowerment songs from Katy Perry. We've already had two become big hits, both of which I did not like. I certainly do not have a problem with self-empowerment songs, but when I'm looking for one, Katy Perry isn't exactly my go-to artist. Overall, I don't love this song, but I don't hate it either. It's kind of just there. It's a little bit of a disappointment for a Katy Perry comeback.
~ At first, I always thought the beat in Never Be Like You was very similar to My Love by Justin Timberlake. The beat is one of the main reasons why I like Never Be Like You. It's not amazing in the vocal department, but this is one of those songs where the beat is enough to engage me and make me like the song. I don't really have much else to say about it. I can't really see it lasting very long here, but we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
~ The Strumbellas – Spirits didn't really interest me very much at first. I found it to really only be an okay song and I would just brush it to the side. But now after more listens, I've come to realize that it's actually a pretty good song. It's nice to see Hits 1 bring in a variety of different genres, with this being a more alternative-indie type song. It's another one of those songs where I listen to it, the chorus just does not leave my head. I'll typically find myself singing the chorus to myself. Is this song amazing? No, not really. But do I enjoy it and find it catchy? Hell yeah! But I do think that people who say they don't like this song (or don't care about it) need to give it some time and they'll possibly grow into it at some point in time.
~ Finally we have the return of Major Lazer with Cold Water featuring Justin Bieber and MØ. It's definitely not as good as Lean On from last year, but this song is really catchy in its own way. It does take a few listens to really grow into the drop and I now find it pretty catchy. Justin Bieber really does do a great job on this song with the vocals. I'm glad he carried most of the vocals and that we really only had one verse from MØ, mainly because I don't love her voice. I thought she did a better job singing on Lean On. But on this song and especially her solo music, her voice definitely gets annoying at times. So I'm glad Justin handles most of the song. Overall, I'm enjoying it. It's not the best I've heard from each of these artists and I can see myself getting sick of it at some point. But for now, I find it really catchy and I'm curious as to how it will do on this countdown.

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list:
- Snakehips/Zayn – Cruel
- Nick Jonas – Bacon
- Kungs & Cookin' On 3 Burners – This Girl
- OneRepublic – Kids
- Big Gigantic/Angela McCluskey – The Little Things
- Andy Grammer – Fresh Eyes
- Kiiara – Gold
- Troye Sivan/Alessia Cara – Wild
- Magic! – Red Dress
- Hailee Steinfeld & Grey/Zedd – Starving
- Steve Aoki & Boehm/Walk The Moon – Back 2 U
- Panic! At The Disco – Death Of A Bachelor
- Mike Posner – Be As You Are
- MKTO – Superstitious
~ Bacon is not really that exciting of a song. I found Nick Jonas' VMA performance of it pretty boring and I'm not loving the song. It's no Jealous or Chains for me unfortunately.
~ I'm unsure whether or not Hits 1 plays the JordanXL remix of Be As You Are. If so, it'd be in green because it is catchy. If not, it'd be in blue because I find the original a little boring and not as exciting, but not horrible.
~ Gold is just straight up annoying. I don't get what people find appealing about this song. And if a song is really that amazing, you should not have to discount your song to 69 cents on iTunes to get people to buy it. I pray that this song does not become a massive hit because it will not be pretty if it does.
~ Finally we have the best debut this week coming from Panic! At The Disco with Death Of A Bachelor. It's songs like these that really showcase Brendon Urie's incredible voice. That's really the main reason why I love this song.
Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Steve Aoki & Boehm/Walk The Moon – Back 2 U
2. OneRepublic – Kids
3. Panic! At The Disco – Death Of A Bachelor
4. Kungs & Cookin' On 3 Burners – This Girl
5. Hailee Steinfeld & Grey/Zedd – Starving
Never Blurb Like You
~ Cheap Thrills jumping to #2 this week is actually a little annoying. This song is still on every freakin' time I have the radio on. Don't radio DJ's get tired of playing songs like this one at some point? I would appreciate if this song made its way down towards the bottom of the countdown because frankly, it's really getting on my nerves.
~ I think 10 weeks at #1 for Can't Stop The Feeling is really pushing it. It's really not that amazing of a song. I still find songs like Mirrors to be better, yet that one didn't even make it on to this countdown for whatever unknown reason. I do still like this song in a way, but I don't find it worthy of spending 10 whole weeks at #1. This station is overrating this song a lot more than other stations and charts.
~ The huge jump from Symon – Say was completely unnecessary. I still think this song is just downright annoying. We have better songs on this countdown that are getting underrated and out of all the songs to hop into the Top 20, we have the annoying Say. Can we please just get rid of this song?!
~ I'm not too surprised about One Dance taking that huge drop to #43 this week. This is not the first time where Hits 1 underrates one of the biggest songs at the moment. But at least it's here. 2013 was the big year where Hits 1 completely missed some of the biggest songs like Justin Timberlake – Mirrors, Rihanna/Mikky Ekko – Stay, Miley Cyrus – Wrecking Ball, and probably more.
~ Demi Lovato – Body Say is not really sticking with me as long as I was hoping it would. It's also not really a huge hit on other countdowns. It's definitely not easy to make a song that does as well as some of her biggest hits like Heart Attack and Cool For The Summer. As far as Body Say goes, I can't really picture peaking in the Top 10. It might, just because it's Demi Lovato, but not necessarily because it's one of the Top 10 songs in North America.
~ It's pretty interesting that the superior All In My Head is doing rather poorly on this countdown compared to the inferior Work From Home. I do think that All In My Head deserves more than what it's getting. But I guess the voters disagree.
~ I still want to see All Time Low – Missing You hit a peak in the Top 20 at the very least. It's just one of the songs that you start to enjoy after some more listens to it. At least that's how it went for me. I'm enjoying this one and while it's still not as good as Something's Gotta Give, it has earned the honor of being on my Apple Music playlist. I'm hoping it can stick around for just a little bit longer and like I said, maybe peak in the Top 20.
~ Hits 1 still refuses to let Twenty One Pilots – Stressed Out drop below #30. They're pretty much just doing whatever they can do to keep Stressed Out as high as possible without interfering with Heathens. We've all had good times with this song, but the overrating this song seriously needs to stop. It was enjoyable for the first few months of it being here. But now it's just old.
~ X Ambassadors – Unsteady clearly did not last long in the Top 10 as it took a hard 27-spot drop to #34 this week. Yikes. I am tired of this song, but I don't know if this huge of a drop was necessary.
~ As far as our exits go, one made me sad and one made me happy. OneRepublic – Wherever I Go dropping out was definitely sad as I still really enjoy that song. Definitely one of the most underrated OneRepublic songs out there. Hopefully Kids doesn't do the same. But the exit from Kent Jones – Don't Mind was very pleasing. Unfortunately, I just can't get with any of the rap music we've gotten this year. It's all the same lazy, hard-to-understand, and just downright annoying songs we've been getting and it really makes this genre look bad. While I do hate this song, it's nowhere near the extreme of my hate towards Desiigner – Panda, which is without a doubt the worst song of the year in my book.
~ The Hit 45 Chart is currently being worked on. Hopefully I'll have it out for you guys tomorrow or Monday.

Nice post. But when will Hands To Myself be in your bottom 5?
ReplyDeleteIt's like #6 or #7 in the Bottom Picks.
DeleteWait a minute...
ReplyDeleteWhy is TIWYCF in red?
Why is WDYA in blue?
Why is Hands To Myself not in the bottom 5?
Why is CSTF in green?
Why is All About Us in blue?
Why is Victorious in pink when it's the oldest song on the countdown?
Why is Figure Me Out in red?
Why is Toothbrush in blue?
Why is OIAW in green?
Why is New Romantics still in green?
And why is 7 Years not in red?
And why did Work From Home go from turquoise to yellow?
DeleteOh yeah...
DeleteWhy is Fresh Eyes in red?
Why isn't Be As You Are in dark green?
Ok. Here we go:
Delete- Underwhelming, yet overplayed
- Not as good as before
- All the songs in the Bottom 5 are worse.
- Pretty sure I mentioned it in the blurbs, but I still like it.
- Not as good as before
- Still kind of like it, but kind of sick of it.
- Bland, mediocre, etc.
- Not that amazing of a song.
- Why not? I still find it catchy.
- Still enjoy it.
- It's hard for me to hate this one.
- Slightly grew back into it. But it'll probably change back next week.
- Still don't like it.
- True. Dark green would've worked. Oh well.
You know, I was going to wait until the 800k pageview special to ask this, but what the heck, I'll ask it now:
ReplyDeleteI know that Shut Up and Dance was really angering you back last year, as you showed disdain at it being #1 as early as its 3rd week there. And yet, 10 weeks at #1 and Can't Stop the Feeling is somehow still in green? How did SUaD piss you off yet you've been able to forgive this more? What's different between them?
I mean, again, I feel like I'm jinxing it here, and I'm not complaining, though I do like SUaD more. I'm just amazed that CSTF is still in green at this point.
Oh yeah, and there was Hello, which was in pink not even two months after it first released to the world. But it wasn't until its 12th week that that was red…
DeleteI love Gold.
DeleteI think Can't Stop The Feeling was better when it was first released as Shut Up and Dance was never really an amazing song to me. It just felt like another song that was getting extremely overrated. As for this one, I knew it'd spend a while at #1 and somehow, I can still listen to this song and still enjoy it. I'm guessing Shut Up and Dance was just an easier song to get annoyed with whereas Can't Stop The Feeling is still this fun, catchy tune. I don't get sick of Justin Timberlake as easily as I get sick of Walk The Moon, who just seem like any other band to me.
DeleteAs far as Hello goes, I knew it'd spend a while at #1, but 12 weeks was rather unnecessary. It was absolutely amazing at first, but it's not one of those songs that should get overplayed. It's also not Adele's best, yet it has spent more weeks at #1 than any other Adele song.
I think I'm playing Shut Up and Dance for consert band
DeleteOMFG YES!!!!!!!!
DeleteI think I'm starting to see the cracks in Just Like Fire. This is basically just Sober with all the good stuff taken out. The pounding percussion, gone. The violins, gone, The complex leading guitar melody, gone. The cohesive narrative, gone. The emotion in P!nk's voice being more important than hitting notes, gone. The one thing I've always respected about P!nk is that she didn't sound like what she was, a 35-year old mother trying to be hip with the cool kids.
ReplyDeleteI've also noticed this for a long time that the premise for No is stupid. Its just really fucking stupid, but this is catchy.
Also did you check out my Death Of A Bachelor album review and my WC post?

I love Gold
ReplyDeleteAnd Hits 1 does not play the remix of Be As You Are.
DeleteGold is so bad. And wow that's interesting. It would've made more sense to play the remix, but whatever. :P
DeleteAnd I agree with what Michael Phelps said about Future
DeleteOf course you would.
DeleteI mean, why would I disagree if he currently has 5 songs on COAEP?
DeleteSo...
ReplyDeleteEthan, oh my gosh you're back!!!
DeleteAdrian, a couple of questions:
ReplyDeleteWhich is better, Gold or Mama Said?
And can you please vote on round 4 of my song wars poll? Same goes for everyone else who hasn't voted for round 4. Link: https://goo.gl/forms/KGuLP70G4e5qpNtQ2
He has Gold as 1.5 on NSOT and Mama Said as 1, so I'd think the former, but not by much.
DeleteHe has Mama Said and Gold on my countdown.
DeleteYou don't have a countdown
DeleteOh yeah, I almost forgot, sorry.
DeleteAdrian, what do you think of the new DJ Khaled single Do You Mind, featuring Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, August Alsina, and more?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
Delete"While I do hate this song, it's nowhere near the extreme of my hate towards Desiigner - Panda, which is without a doubt the worst song of the year in my book."
ReplyDeleteThen, be thankful you didn't review the YouTube15 this week, because terrible news: Panda made a re-entry there. What on earth???
I didn't even know it left.
DeleteI hate Panda.
DeleteI love Panda
DeleteRound 5 of the song wars poll is out! Before I tell you the link, here are the 8 (out of 150) songs that made it this far:
ReplyDeleteFireball

Uptown Funk
Love Me Like You Do
Shut Up and Dance
Talking Body
Elastic Heart

Round 6 is the Song Wars.
DeleteChase, we are currently in round 5.
DeleteI'm going to do something similar
DeleteRound 5 is now Justin Timberlake.
Delete???
DeleteAnd Parker, why didn't you vote?
Sorry, I thought I did. I was really busy yesterday.
DeleteYou didn't vote on round 5 but commented after I published it. Sorry if I'm telling you guys to vote too much, but I'm trying to get as many votes as possible.
DeleteI just finished voting.
DeleteThank you.
DeleteI was filling out the form yesterday while I was in line for the fitting rooms at this store, and next thing you know, yeah. I never has time to finish it.
DeleteI will vote as soon as I'm at a computer.
DeleteDone and done.
DeleteCan someone tell me why Becky G - Shower played on Hits 1 last night? That song peaked at #25, not #3.
ReplyDeleteI loved that song 😂
DeleteNew T45 Mania is out on my blog y'all! Enjoy :))
ReplyDeletehttp://hiits1weekendcountdown.blogspot.com/2016/09/t45-mania-september-3rd-2016-edition.html?m=1
So, guess I'll do another guess the WC:
ReplyDelete- There was a guest host who just had a #1.
- Of the three debuts, one has left, and two are still here and currently in red.
- The one year ago #1 was a one week #1 by an act who had an exit that week.
April 9, 2016.
DeleteGuess the WC (this was on my countdown post yesterday):
Delete2 exits.
The #1 is the female's first, and it is on its second week.
Correct. Charlie Puth was the guest host and Style was the one year ago #1.
DeleteWould look for that but on my phone now.
Okay, it was May 16, 2015. Overload and Ghost left, and Ellie Goulding's first song to hit #1, Love Me Like You Do, love love love me like you do (I had to) was on its second (and final) week at #1.
DeleteThrowback Picks:
ReplyDeleteEmpire State Of Mind- Jay-Z/Alicia Keys
Whatta Man- Salt N Pepa

DeleteOh my god that's taking it to far Hits 1 needs to calm down.
DeleteThey did another one and I didn't post the link.
DeleteAnd they stopped. D:
So, seeing as there are people thinking that think we might be entering the dark ages of the countdown again (if we haven't already)...what exactly happened last year that caused it then? Other than Shut Up and Dance hogging the #1 spot last summer? Because while there was quite a bit of inertia, it sure seemed more active than this year has.

DeleteDone.
DeleteSo I just got back from the mall and a few things happened. One was I overheard Water Under The Bridge by Adele being played in one of the stores. The second thing is that I bought a new hat. It looks something like this:
ReplyDeletehttp://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/g/EtEAAOSwwPhWhs1A/s-l225.jpg
See if you can guess where that's from. And finally, I got Usher's massive 2004 smash album Confessions, and all I can say is I love it.
So no one knows where the hat is from?
DeleteIt's Dipper's hat on Gravity Falls.
DeleteThank you, finally someone got it! And yes, I am a fan of Gravity Falls, in case you didn't know already.
DeleteAdrian, What is your opinion on Gnash/Olivia O' Brian - I Hate U, I Love U?
ReplyDelete- A Hits 1 Fan
It's on Future Hitz on his Hit 45 Chart so I guess he likes it. I don't really like it though.
DeleteRound 6 is out!!! Here are your top 4 songs:
ReplyDeleteFireball
Blame
Love Me Like You Do

https://goo.gl/forms/rByzI8p3PUWnq0f33
I actually saw your vote come in.
DeleteI'm just gonna predict it right now the final 2. Love Me Like You Do vs. Blame.
DeleteThat's what I predicted too, and I also will predict the winner, which has gotten 19 votes to 4 in all rounds combined.
DeleteTo be honest I easily want Love Me Like You Do to win.
DeleteVoted.
Delete(Why do I feel like a certain user I won't name voted last round?)
The people that voted were Miles, Adrian, you, and 2 others.
DeleteOf course. That would explain why Blame won :P
DeleteI'm at an air sports park right now and they're playing some hit music on the radio. They played songs like I Took A Pill In Ibiza, Treat You Better, Candyman (by Zedd), Wild Things, and others I'm forgetting.
ReplyDeleteNow they're playing Audien/Lady Antebellum - Something Better (Adrian?)
DeleteAnother throwback comment of the day:

Delete^^ and you complain about Chase having like 50 recommendations no one cares about, yet I bet pretty much no one has heard of half of the artists on that list. But I really don't care about this so go ahead.
DeleteWas that for Parker or for Miles?
DeleteI would say Miles
DeleteOh my gosh Durp, you're back!!!
DeleteHey, at least Miles is naming classics that I'm sure many of us remember well, which is definitely different from what he (and others) would get annoyed with Chase for.
DeleteYeah, I doubt many on this blog actually know or listened to some of the 90s and 80s classics.

ReplyDelete#1 Recommendation for Hits 1: Drake/Rihanna - Too Good
DeleteWhy not Controlla?

DeleteBreaking News: Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston have split.
ReplyDeleteAh pickles I was about to say that
DeleteSo far on COAEP:
ReplyDelete- There will be 5 entrants/exits, with three of them being from Drake's Views.
- It'll be a close call for the #1 song. It'll either be Don't Hurt Me, Wat U Mean, or one of the debuts.
