Panic! At The Disco (3) – Week Of June 23, 2018

This countdown is certainly looking a little bit better than the American Top 40 (there are no good songs in the Top 5 over there at all). But things aren't really looking too good over here either, up at least in the upper half of the countdown. More on that stuff in the blurbs. No songs leaving the countdown this week. Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list.

  • Cardi B – I Like It
  • MNEK/Hailee Steinfeld – Colour
  • Fall Out Boy – The Last Of The Real Ones
  • Sugarland/Taylor Swift – Babe
  • Backstreet Boys – Don't Go Breaking My Heart
  • lovelytheband – Broken
  • Panic! At The Disco – High Hopes
  • Dennis Lloyd – Nevermind
  • Julia Michaels/Trippie Redd – Jump (DEBUT)
  • Meghan Trainor – Let You Be Right
  • In Real Life – Tattoo (How 'Bout You)
  • The Wrecks – James Dean
  • HRVY – Personal
  • Big Boi – All Night
  • Cole Redding – Father Father

~ Julia Michaels released two unspeakably bad singles last year, both of which made it onto my Bottom 10 songs of 2017. She makes her return this week with Jump, which is undeniably a significant improvement and arguably her best single to date. The song is very chill and laid back. I like the production and the song has a nice vibe to it. Her vocals are pretty good for the most part. There are no weird voice cracks or anything, which is good. I like Trippie Redd's contribution. Overall, I think this is a good song and I wouldn't mind seeing it get big.

~ So we lost Fake Love from BTS. Not very heartbroken about that at all. Like I keep saying, soon enough we will forgot about these guys completely.

Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Panic! At The Disco – High Hopes
2. Backstreet Boys – Don't Go Breaking My Heart
3. Fall Out Boy – The Last Of The Real Ones
4. Julia Michaels/Trippie Redd – Jump
5. Sugarland/Taylor Swift – Babe

Youngblurb
~ Can we please get The Middle out of the #2 spot??? This song shouldn't even be in the Top 5 anymore. It's a shame that this song is representing EDM at the moment.

~ New to the Top 5 much to my distaste as well as Montavis, Miles, Scott R., and possibly a few more people, we have Marshmello/Anne-Marie – Friends. I don't really need to talk about why this song shouldn't be here. It seems obvious if you listen to the song. It's a shame that this is representing EDM as well.

~ Onto more crap in the Top 10, we have Post Malone/Ty Dolla $ign – Psycho making a psycho jump up from #30. I don't understand why people like this song. It's a good example of why rap music has gotten so bad over the past couple years. This song is just lazy in every possible way. This should not be one of the Top 10 songs in North America (Top 5 according to Billboard). America needs new ears.

~ Bringing a little bit of light to the darkness, we have Foster The People – Sit Next To Me rising to #6. Now this makes me very happy. People can still recognize a good underrated alternative song like this one. It's nice to see this guys finally have another big hit and I'm glad it happened to be Sit Next To Me. It's unfortunate that it's being sandwiched in between two beyond mediocre songs. Hopefully it can pull through and possibly make it into the Top 5.

~ NOTD/Bea Miller – I Wanna Know randomly jumped into the Top 10. This is most certainly not one of the Top 10 songs in the country and it's not exactly worthy of it either. Songs like Say Amen are underrated, but great. But songs like I Wanna Know are just not that amazing. The production is actually kind of annoying here. So this is not Top 10-worthy.

~ And of course, Lauv – I Like Me Better is back up in the Top 20. Who is voting for this??? Who actually likes this song? The song is just terrible in every way. The lyrics are awful and the production is so annoying. I just don't know what people like about this song and why it has been here for so long. This is insane.

~ Four of our debuts from last week made rather small jumps. The only that made decent jumps were Girls Like You and Youngblood. The latter makes me very happy because it was my favorite debut from last week and it's still a really great song. The former is okay, I guess. But I'm all for it jumping if it means we can get rid of Wait.

~ Bazzi – Mine and Maren Morris – Rich are slowly making small, yet rather annoying jumps. The former is just an annoying song all together. I find this song to have a lot in common with I Like Me Better, and my opinion is virtually the same for both songs. The latter is just disappointing for an artist who I know is talented having enjoyed My Church and 80s Mercedes long before The Middle came around. And this album of hers is from 2016. Why are we still pulling singles from it??? Can't we wait until she puts out something new?

~ The jumps last week from Echosmith – Over My Head and Dustin Atlas/Erin Bowman – Fake Friends clearly did not last long. Frankly, I'm not surprised about either.

~ The big drop from These Days was rather saddening. It's unfortunate that this couldn't be a big hit everywhere else. But at least it did decent here. Rudimental have scored themselves another hit here on Hits 1 despite it not actually being that big in the US. I can imagine this song being bigger in the UK, but it's nice to have crossovers every now and then.

~ Outside of the countdown, there are two new albums that came out yesterday that are worth checking out. Panic! At The Disco (or really just Brendon Urie) released Pray For The Wicked and Bebe Rexha released Expectations. I listened to both of them all the way through and I thought they were both pretty solid albums. So do check them out if you have the chance.

Also, one last thing. One of our fellow bloggers who goes by the name "." is doing another little rankdown game and this time, it's with songs that Hits 1 picked up that weren't actually big. I'm participating and I encourage to participate as well if you're interested. You have to submit a list by tomorrow at 6 PM eastern time. The link to the instructions and song list is below. Any questions can be asked over there or in the comments below on here. But go there first and read through all the instructions before asking any questions.

  2. I'd rather Psycho be the one rap hit on here, than Lucid Dreams, Sad!, Yes Indeed, This Is America, Be Careful, I'm Upset, Freaky Friday, or basically most of the rap hits, sans God's Plan and Nice For What. Seriously, Psycho is not that bad.

And Pray For The Wicked is probably the best album I've heard this year, if not Panic!'s best album.

  3. Need help. I don't know if this is the right place to ask but I'll try.

I just got a response in the past hour from an unknown submitter. Only problem is that they only had their favorite as the submission.

So if this is you, everyone is supposed to rank all of the songs on the list, with #1 as their favorite and #28 as their least favorite.

    1. I need more help.

I got another submission. I won’t name the person who it was, but some of their bottom songs were listed in the same order as I had on the rankdown page. I’m assuming they haven’t heard all of the songs, but each participant is supposed to listen to all of the songa.

    2. Well I started a list and only had one on it but I do not think I submitted it unless just being on the page is a submission. I didn’t have time to listen to all of the songs so I stopped there. My apologies if I accidentally submitted something

  4. Also, this is why I don't do Hits 1 reviews anymore, it's incredibly inconsistent, and sometimes laughable predictable and annoying.

  6. It is a shame that Over My Head isn't sticking around, but not surprising. I also hope that Youngblood can stick around. It'd also be nice to see Ariana Grande score a week at #1 at some point.

Also Montavis, hate to break it to you, but as a fan of a division rival, I feel obligated to: your Braves just lost a series against the Baltimore Orioles, who have blew for most of the season. And at that, my Phillies just won a series against the Nationals, another division rival. We are nearing in the gap for the division, and had it not been for a few dumb losses we would likely have it again right about now. But both series still have one more game each, and we have a big challenge ahead of us after tomorrow in the Yankees.

  7. I added my non-mandatory questions to the rankdown page. 16 hours left to submit.

    3. Cool! Sad isn’t my favorite X song but I like it enough for it to be #1 over Gross Malone. And wow at three of his other songs in the top 20.

    4. Post Malone is better than XXXTENTACLEHENTAI, at least he isn't guilt tripping a girl to stay in an abusive relationship or else he;d kill himself. Or is getting upset that his girl is changing and hates it, with the most boring, one-note production ever.

      Delete
    5. Gotta agree with Miles on this. I’d listen to Post Malone over XXX any day. This guy’s music is literal shit. I know he just died and all and I guess I do feel a little sympathetic, but the music is still terrible. That didn’t change at all.

      Delete
    6. At least with Post Malone, you can tell there's something interesting in some way. (Rockstar is the perfect example in lyrical content about feeling like a rockstar, Candy Paint being his most upbea song to date, Congratulations about making it big with Stony and White Iverson being a hit, etc) XXX has nothing, it's boring, generic emo rap, from SoundCloud that got big, and had more personal controversy than Post does.

  16. It gets worse:

    28. Fuck Love- XXXTENTACLEHENTAI (RE-ENTRY)

    80. Hope- XXXTENTACLEHENTAI (DEBUT)

  20. Guys, I think I'm literally my zodiac sign.

I have been having this thing in which I think is a "wart", but last week it's actually something else. Yesturday my dad took me to the doc and she thinks it's a melorama (idk how to spell), which is skin cancer. That day I said "I love being independent. I wish it lasts forever!" Now I wonder why I said that. My mom told me it's just a "mole", but I don't believe her, as I always do. Now I'm worried my whole life is in vain, along with the other issues I suffered. Today before my last final, my mom took me to the doctor and HE looked at me and said I have a risk of having my head cut open. I think they meant to save my life, but I have high worries. The truth is, I have a life to live. I have a lot of things to be excited for, like seeing to see the Wreck It Ralph movie. I don't wanna fade away from life too soon.

  25. It looks like SAD! is getting a music video tomorrow. If it goes completely viral (which it probably will) there is a good chance it gets a second week at #1 for Billboard even with only one day of the video. And with Drake’s Scorpion dropping on Friday, I Like It might be blocked from number one completely

    ReplyDelete

    1. Except I bet it's streaming and sales compensation for one day won't be enough, since it's been falling since last week.

  26. Well I have heard that it was a close race before they announced the video. The streams are falling but aren’t completely in free fall right now. If the video is as big as I expect it to be, I am putting my money on a second week at #1

    2. I mean it doesn't have radio, which might be the deciding factor if I Like It gains fast enough it could get there, albeit barely.

Sad! will definitely have fallen on sales, it's currently #10 on iTunes and the number of streams will have fallen as well, giving more support I Like It and Girls Like You. And it's YouTube is starting to retreat already, but it definitely could be close next week, but I still think I Like It will go to #1. Also, the chart rules in terms of streaming is gonna change on Friday, and could hinder the Drake album bomb.

    1. I find it weird because both of them, especially the latter, had decent airplay last week.

I also knew Fake Love wasn't gone for good.

    2. It's honestly not the worst thing. I am surprised because it doesn't look like it is impacting pop anytime soon.

    3. Yep, it looks like we will have 6 newbies on HitBound this week.

    4. Great song! Love to see some occasional country songs on stations like this.

    5. Parker: Ironic considering you said you didn't like country.

    6. I like country just fine. I may have said I didn’t a year ago but times change.

    6. There's no way Drake's not getting the #1 album. Unless Xxxtentacion suddenly drops an album or something early this week.

      Delete
    7. Doubt it, I heard that Drake already got over 100 million streams on ONE platform alone. Couple that with the sales from it both digitally and physically, Drake has that #1 spot on lock right now, even with the formula changes on Billboard today.
