#1 Song This Week One Year Ago: Shawn Mendes – There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back (1)

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Foster The People – Sit Next To Me (+14)
New Entrants
~ Our lone new entrant this week happens to be the return of Echosmith. Over My Head is an okay song. It's definitely not something worth taking a lot of time to write a review for. I think the vocals are good, but the production here isn't exactly that interesting. It's a different sound for the band and I can't say it sounds good. I think they sounded best doing something along the lines of Bright, which was one of my favorite songs from 2015. Overall, this song is not very interesting. It's not bad, but it's not exactly good either.
Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list.

- In Real Life – Tattoo (How 'Bout You)
- Calvin Harris/Dua Lipa – One Kiss
- 5 Seconds of Summer – Youngblood
- Panic! At The Disco – High Hopes
- Dennis Lloyd – Nevermind
- Maren Morris – Rich
- Sam Smith/Logic – Pray
- Hundred Handed – Too Good
- Fall Out Boy – The Last Of The Real Ones

- HRVY – Personal
- Cardi B – I Like It
- Meghan Trainor – Let You Be Right
- Sugarland/Taylor Swift – Babe
- Liam Payne/J Balvin – Familiar
- lovelytheband – Broken
Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Panic! At The Disco – High Hopes
2. Fall Out Boy – The Last Of The Real Ones
3. Liam Payne/J Balvin – Familiar
4. Sugarland/Taylor Swift – Babe
5. The Wrecks – James Dean
Over My Blurb
~ We FINALLY have a new #1 song that I think has potential to hold. Whatever It Takes was pretty much bound to hit #1 because.....umm.... Imagine Dragons. DUH! Given that their last two singles were #1 hits, this comes as no surprise. And I'm happy with it, partially because it's a good song, while mostly because it means The Middle is no longer #1.
~ Taylor Swift – Delicate is now in the Top 5. I've grown into this song and I can enjoy it for what it is, even if Taylor Swift has done a lot better. It's a nice song to say the least. Do I think it's #1 potential? Not necessarily. But I think it's worthy of the Top 5 for the time being.
~ Foster The People – Sit Next To Me made that recovery I was hoping for. It's good to know that this song does still have potential to be a hit on here. I unfortunately can't say the same for Kendrick Lamar/SZA – All The Stars. At least that one made its debut and is therefore eligible for my Top 45 songs of 2018. It's sad that I have to say that, but I don't think this song will last much longer unfortunately.
~ Imagine Dragons – Thunder finally dropped out of the Top 30. I don't hate this song as much now as I used to. But it's still not a good song by any means and it's about time that it dropped. Though it'll probably still be months until it leaves for good.
~ Another drop I was pleased by was the drop from Post Malone/Ty Dolla $ign – Psycho. This song has no redeeming qualities and I'm still trying to figure out why America has made it one of the biggest songs of the year so far. God's Plan and Nice For What I can understand to some extent. But Psycho is the epitome of a bland, generic, and just straight up boring rap song. I'm not really sure how one can enjoy this.
~ Portugal. The Man – Feel It Still has been seriously testing my patience. Who still listens to this??? Who is voting for this??????? I kind of regret including it in my Top 45 songs of 2017. I liked it when it was new and fresh. But now it's just overplayed and stale.
~ Our one exit this week happens to be Drake – God's Plan. While overrated across the country, this song was very much underrated here. I actually do like the song. I find it quite catchy and enjoyable. I never hated Drake. He tends to put out some good stuff every now and then. God's Plan was nice while it lasted. You will be somewhat missed by me.

ReplyDeleteIn before someone corrects an error he made in the post.
I’m not sure what you’re referring to.
DeleteWell lucky for you Feel It Still will leave this week.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I don't know what error . is talking about but I guess it's that you forgot the Saturday Night part for Say Amen in your top 5? Idk that is just my guess.
I did that intentionally. Sometimes I’ll include it, sometimes I won’t. Since it’s in parenthesis, I may just leave it off at times.
DeletePsycho is officially number one on pop radio
ReplyDeleteYeah, not surprised about this. But I'm very pissed if you ask me. :/
DeleteI love Whatever It Takes, but I’m not too happy about it being #1. In fact, this week marks five months since it was my favorite song. There are fresh, new songs in the top 10, such as Delicate, Want You Back, and Friends that could be #1 instead. But they choose a burnt out song instead. I don’t understand that.
ReplyDeleteWant You Back hit #1 a month ago.
DeleteI’m aware. But just because it did doesn’t mean it can’t again.
Delete...yeah it does. It literally only hit #1 because of Hits1’s 5SOS obsession, and it shouldn’t ever again. (And it shouldn’t have before)
Delete^ this was replying to Parker and Dylan
DeleteThat's kind of what Imagine Dragons songs are known for, at least not on the Hot 100. They debut, and are very slow gainers for the most part and eventually reach the Top 10. And then they just stick around for a bit and eventually reach a particular peak. Believer debuted in the wake of Super Bowl LI and then first reached the Top 10 in the wake of parent album Evolve.
DeleteAnd I had no problem at all with Want You Back being #1, because I do still really like the song. Very interesting one to make that point, admittedly.
I hate Whatever it Takes. It sucks!!!
DeleteFuck off Chase!
DeleteGood news Adrian: Feel It Still (and Wolves) will likely be leaving the countdown this week.

DeleteI see what the error is. For I Wanna Know, he said Bea Millers instead of Bea Miller. Or at least that's an error he made.
ReplyDeleteThat was probably it. I fixed it.
Delete^Yes that was it. Just a minor error.

Delete@Chase I don't hate it but I don't like it
DeleteIt's Chase.
Delete@Chase You’re an idiot. I told you many times that I put the @ sign in front of peoples names so they know it’s a reply to their post. Obviously it works because you get triggered by it every time. Please never comment about how I comment again. Not everyone does it your way. Actually everyone with a piece of mind doesn’t comment your way (which is just childishly blabbering about random shit literally nobody but you cares about).
DeleteThat’s not nice, swegawaffle. Please don’t call me an idiot. Watch your lies please!!
DeleteAwww..... God's plan left ..... Well at least next week TAKE PSYCHO WITH YOU!!
ReplyDeleteYay for God's Plan!!!
Delete@Chase God’s Plan is a good song.

There is more to come.
This is not gonna go well. I feel like more posts are coming from him.
DeleteWell it is.
DeleteActually Post Malone’s first single was Rockstar, and the 2nd was Psycho. Also I’m not sure anyone truly cares.
DeleteFor Post Malone's album, it was Rockstar, then Candy Paint, then Psycho, and then Better Now.
DeleteFor Cardi B's album, it was Bodak Yellow, then Bartier Cardi, and then I Like It.
With a couple of promotional singles for each album as well.
Ugh, I just heard Sober Up in Hits 1 which means it isn’t leaving anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteNew on Hits1: U2/Cheat Codes - Love Is Bigger Than Anything In Its Way
ReplyDeleteNew on the voting poll actually.
DeleteJust more countdown/hit-bound filler.
DeleteOkay, some major sports news. Are you ready?
ReplyDeleteCapitals win their first-ever Stanley Cup Title. Miles will be pissed.
Not me, though. My brother currently resides in Washington, and he knew how crazy things got. On Monday during Game 4, he said that he considered going to observe the outdoor party. And for this Game 5, he took the metro and rolled through the stop at the arena earlier and it was indeed crazy.
DeleteEven as a Flyers fan, I really am happy for the Capitals. They've been through so many disappointing losses and fought hard for this, between finally overcoming the Penguins for I think the first time this century, making it through the Lightning in seven games (three of which were away), and now this. Despite being only five games, there was some intensity for sure. I'm glad with the final result, but I do wish Vegas had been able to win at least one more. Still, congrats, Caps.
As a Preds fan, I am happy for the Caps coach and former Preds coach Barry Trotz as well as Alex Ovechkin. Honestly, I am just glad the Golden Knights didn’t win
DeleteI'm ok with that. Although it would've been really cool if Vegas win the Cup on their first ever season. Tbh, I'm just glad the Bruins didn't win.
DeleteGAME UPDATE: No major 64 song bracket at the end. Only final four that includes each winner of each bracket.
ReplyDeleteAT40 post is now out, guys.
