The Chainsmokers (4) – Week Of January 5, 2019

Hey guys! My next year-end post is in the works at the moment. That will hopefully be out sometime within the next couple of days. Aside from that, I don't have anything interesting to say. I did post my Top 45 Songs of 2018 early this past week. If you for some reason have not checked that out, please do so. It's long, but I would think it's interesting. Biggest Jump Of The Week: Tie Between Twenty One Pilots – Chlorine and Lauv/Julia Michaels – There's No Way (+7)

Blurbs (interesting names will resume next week)
~ If we can keep Halsey – Without Me away from the #1 spot, that would be great. I wouldn't mind Happier going to #1 again. I'll even keep This Feeling at #1 even though I don't love it just to keep Halsey away. We don't need a whiny Halsey up at #1.

~ The Struts/Kesha – Body Talks jumped into the Top 10 last week. I'm sure we all know how I feel about this because I really love this song. I'm so glad to see it have success here because it very much should've been a hit. It's a fantastic song and I hope it sticks around.

~ Mark Ronson/Miley Cyrus – Nothing Breaks Like A Heart is a quality piece of work that should be doing much better than it is right now. It's a very great song and I do hope it does end up becoming a hit. It's the better of the two Mark Ronson-produced tracks on the countdown.

~ Nothing interesting happened this week, but since we are officially in 2019, I thought I'd talk about music that I'm looking forward to hearing in 2019.

  • Two albums that are already up for preorder that I'm waiting for are DNA by Backstreet Boys and Head Above Water by Avril Lavigne.
    • DNA so far has three great tracks released from it, with the latest being my current obsession. But I really look forward what the rest of the album has to offer. I'm glad the Backstreet Boys are back and I have good feelings about DNA.
    • Head Above Water has two great songs released and I love both of them. I've been waiting for new music from Avril Lavigne for so long because I love her as an artist. She's incredibly talented and her previous songs have shown that, including some of the songs from her previous self-titled album like Let Me Go, which is actually one of my favorite songs from her. I look forward to the new album.
  • Rihanna is supposedly bringing us a new album in 2019, which definitely excites me because Rihanna is one of my favorite female artists even though I didn't enjoy some of the songs from Anti. Her discography is still really good for the most part as she has made some classics that I revisit all the time. She also provides a mesmerizing chorus in my favorite song of all-time. So I look forward to what she'll bring because I know she's very talented.
  • I believe Carly Rae Jepsen is bringing something new this year. I thought EMOTION was a great album and the singles deserved more success. Cut To The Feeling was pop perfection at its finest. I absolutely adored that song. And Party For One was very enjoyable as well. She's definitely improved a lot since 2012 and she's become one of the best female pop artists in my opinion. I'm definitely interested to hear what she'll bring in 2019.
  • From what I've read, it looks like Adele will bring something new in 2019, which interests me. I don't exactly love her as much as a lot of the world does. But I see the appeal and I think she's very talented. Rolling In The Deep and Set Fire To The Rain were both great songs. I listened to the former for the first time in a while recently and I had forgotten how great that song was. I didn't exactly love 25, so I'm not really sure how her new album will sound. But I'm interested to hear it.
  • Coldplay is supposedly returning to work on a "surprising" new album. You guys already know how I feel about them. They're my favorite band of all-time and I absolutely love their music. They've definitely changed their sound a lot with each album, but I've enjoyed just about all of them for the most part. If they are putting out this new album in 2019, I'm definitely looking forward to it and I'm very interested to hear what they'll bring.

~ Those are artists that I look forward to hearing from in 2019. Those who have read up to this point now get to know that I have come up with an idea for the next rankdown that I will be hosting. I will probably introduce it next week or the week after and have submissions open up until March because I feel like it'll be a hard one. So get hyped.

  2. Why do you not like The Middle?

    1. I'm pretty sure he explained it in his Year-End posts. But simply put, he finds that the drop is annoying and he doesn't like Maren's voice. Plus, he thinks that Zedd is selling out.

As for me, I can definitely see why most here think that way. But I'm not one of them. In fact, it's actually my #1 favorite song of 2018.

    2. The production is very generic and annoying, Maren Morris' auto tuned vocals sound bad, and it was overrated as hell for a song that is so lazy compared to the gems Zedd has made in the past.

      Delete
    3. I also really enjoy The Middle but I can see why others don’t.

  3. I find it quite odd that we didn't have any new Hit-Bound entrants from the past few weeks (including this one) except for our 5 songs which debuted at the end of the year.
