New Entrants
~ We have one new entrant this week coming from Ariana Grande with No Tears Left To Cry. I don't really have much to say about this. I don't think the song lives up to all the hype. I like the beginning, but I'm not exactly huge on the rest of the song. Her vocals are good when she's singing. But I still think her speak-rapping is awkward and it just doesn't fit very well in my opinion. It has grown on me since I last reviewed it and I think it'll keep growing on me. But for now, this song really isn't anything special. I think Ariana has done better.

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list.
- Foster The People – Sit Next To Me
- Liam Payne/J Balvin – Familiar
- Dua Lipa – IDGAF
- Kendrick Lamar, SZA – All The Stars
- lovelytheband – Broken (DEBUT)
- HRVY – Personal
- Sugarland/Taylor Swift – Babe
- Hundred Handed – Too Good
- Echosmith – Over My Head
- The Wrecks – James Dean (DEBUT)
- Calvin Harris/Dua Lipa – One Kiss (DEBUT)
- In Real Life – Tattoo (How 'Bout You)
- Sam Smith/Logic – Pray
- Dustin Atlas/Erin Bowman – Fake Ass Friends
- Maren Morris – Rich
~ Broken is okay. I'm not really huge on the vocals or the production. This could grow on me, but I don't really think it will. This will probably one of those that I never listen to again because it'll probably never debut on the countdown and I wouldn't be heartbroken if that's what happened.
~ I love when Hits 1 picks up on a good rock song every now and then. James Dean is a good example of that. I think the song is very enjoyable. I'll speak more about it if it debuts. I'm hoping this can make its debut soon.
~ Now we have the return of producer Calvin Harris with Dua Lipa on the track One Kiss. I don't love this song. It's decent and I think this has a better chance of growing on me than Broken. I like the vocals for the most part. But I think Calvin Harris got a little lazy with the production. I get that he's been going for a different vibe lately and it worked very well with Slide and Feels. But One Kiss is missing something and I'm not sure what. But like I said, it'll probably grow on me.
~ We lost Trust Fund Baby by Why Don't We and Everybody Hates Me by The Chainsmokers. I'm not heartbroken about either of them since neither of them appealed to me. So yeah. Good riddance I guess? The latter I didn't hate, but I just found to be very disappointing.
Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. TIE: Foster The People – Sit Next To Me
1. TIE: Kendrick Lamar/SZA – All The Stars
3. The Wrecks – James Dean
4. Liam Payne/J Balvin – Familiar
5. Sugarland/Taylor Swift – Babe
Blurbs
~ No blurbs this week. I know, it's sad. But it's not like there was anything interesting to talk about this week anyway. And they'll definitely be back next week because, like I said in the intro, I'm finished with my spring semester.

Early squad where you at?
ReplyDeleteBtw, Live In The Moment left and re-entered Hit-Bound.
So it left the countdown and is back on Hit-Bound? That doesn't make any sense.
DeleteIt kinda does. They don't want it to waste space so they but it back on Hit-Bound until it gets more popular. Happened with P!ATD's Victorious.
DeleteOk maybe it does then. Idk.
DeleteWell I’m glad it’s not gone for good. That one deserves to do well.
Delete#1 Recommendation for Hits 1: Christina Aguilera - Twice
ReplyDeleteThis is the countdown so far from DSR. Don't steal this from me because I may be wrong (I doubt it) someone should listen to the countdown themselves to prove it.

Well I’ll certainly take it over Never Be The Same.
Delete@Dylan You know what’s sad? You’re right. Because I bet that’s the main reason people and Hits1 like them.

DeleteMost Missed Song (which I heard earlier today): Ariana Grande/Zedd - "Break Free"

DeleteThat song never made it to Hits1 but I kinda wish it did. It's a good song.

So Let You Be Right by Meghan Trainor is on Hits 1. Problem is, the have the song title in the song artist spot.
ReplyDeleteOof.
*they
DeleteMagic! - Rude had the same problem lol
DeleteSo, that's how it should be, it should be song title first, then the artist.
DeleteExample:
Rude by Magic!
Kamikaze by Walk The Moon
The Middle by Zedd ft. Maren Morris & Grey
and so on and so on.
It just looked weird because that is Hits 1 does it the other way.
DeleteOmg swegawaffle I remember that. They didn't fix it on the Venus channel for like a year. The first time I heard it on the radio I wasn't even sure if the song title was Magic! or Rude.
DeleteMiles: I do that in some of my posts, especially when I do the American Top 40 and anything related to Billboard. But for the majority of my posts, I usually do the artist's name first, then the song title.
DeleteI can respect your way of doing things, but to me it really doesn't matter.

So the Cavaliers prolapsed all over the field against the Celtics in Game 1 today. Hm, do I hope for them to bring them back to reality, even though many are sick of seeing LeBron in the finals?
ReplyDeleteAt least the Phillies beat the Mets and got revenge for Friday. Unfortunately, yesterday's game was rain delayed and will be moved to August for a double-header.
Oh, wait till RedDog hears about this. I'm sure he is thrilled.
DeleteYep, I would think. It'll be something if they manage to defeat LeBron. Also, if you don't know where I'm making those exaggerated references, it's from a YouTuber named UrinatingTree who does funny posts on sports related matters.
DeleteAlso, with a 6-2 win against the Lightning, the Capitals are now 2-0 for the series, and they're two wins away from ensuring a first time Stanley Cup champion.
Oh I am thrilled. I like to call him "LeChoke" :P
DeleteRedDog, please don't call him "LeChoke" His name is Scott, period.

ReplyDeleteThis Week in Billboard Chart History: In 1993, Janet Jackson's 'Goes' Went to No. 1 on the Hot 100
ReplyDeletePlus, remembering feats by Gloria Estefan, Madonna & R.E.M.
May 14, 1988
30 years ago: Gloria Estefan made her first trip to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, as love song "Anything for You" (with Miami Sound Machine) reigned. She'd lead again with "Don't Wanna Lose You" in 1989 and "Coming Out of the Dark" in 1991.
May 15, 1993
25 years ago: After scoring seven Billboard Hot 100 top 10s from her 1989 album Rhythm Nation 1814, Janet Jackson picked up right where she left off, as "That's the Way Love Goes," the first single from janet., began an eight-week run at No. 1. janet. would generate six Hot 100 top 10s, and "Goes" became her sixth of 10 No. 1s.
May 16, 1998
20 years ago: Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn" spent its first of 11 weeks at No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart.
May 17, 2008
10 years ago: Madonna earned her seventh of eight No. 1s on the Billboard 200 with the chart-topping launch of Hard Candy. The set yielded the No. 3 Hot 100 hit "4 Minutes," featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland.
May 18, 1991
Powered by the highest-charting Billboard Hot 100 hit of the group's career, "Losing My Religion," which rose to No. 4, R.E.M. landed its first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, Out of Time.
May 19, 1990
More Madonna: She'd been inspired by dancer/choreographers Jose and Luis Xtravaganza from the Harlem "House Ball" community, who introduced "vogue"-ing to her at the New York club Sound Factory. On this date in 1990, her song "Vogue," with its iconic back-and-white video, struck a pose atop the Billboard Hot 100 for the first of three weeks.
May 20, 1989
The title cut from Paula Abdul's debut album Forever Your Girl spent its first of two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The set spun off four Hot 100 No. 1s in all.
Torn and 4 Minutes! <3
DeleteParker, this has nothing to what Miles is taking about.

What is the point of doing a review if you haven’t listened to more than half of the songs? Is it really that much work to listen to them? I do it all the time, as a real music critic would.
DeleteExactly, if you haven't even listened to them and you don't rank them, don't do a fucking ranking in the first place then!
DeleteAnd don’t give the worst song a -1 and the best song a 6. They just cancel each other out, so there’s no point. Either do 1 or the other. I usually do the 6 for the best song (which ISN’T Meant To Be)
DeleteGonna be honest but I actually like the -1 and 6 scoring system. Sure they cancel each other out but, for example, if we were doing a Top 20 review of the Hot 100, there may be just one of those.
DeleteBut the 6 is meant to be a bonus or extra credit. The -1 defeats the purpose of it.
DeleteThere shouldn't always be a best song and/or a worst song in the review. Just because there is a Top 20 review doesn't mean there should be a best/worst song in the Top 20.
DeleteMiles, how about by saying don't do a raking in the first place then.
DeleteHits 1 in the past has picked up Redbone and 3005. Judging from that do you think Hits 1 will pick up TIA?
ReplyDeleteI certainly wouldn’t mind if they did.
DeleteI just heard All The Stars air on Hits1 =D
ReplyDeleteGreat! Hopefully this should debut the countdown this week. It could even be in my Top 5 songs this year.

Here are the new songs on the voting poll. I just checked the site.
ReplyDelete5 Seconds Of Summer – Youngblood
Dennis Lloyd – Nevermind
Cardi B. – I Like It
Sorry Adrian, but I also see that Beautiful Trauma and Good Old Days are off the voting poll. So, it looks like both of them are leaving this week. :/
If that means All The Stars will debut, I'm okay with that. Also definitely not surprised to see Youngblood.
DeleteGood thing the didn’t remove Havana.
DeleteHavana needs to leave. It has needed to since January.
DeleteOf course Youngblood needs to be on there because fucking 5SOS amirite?
I was actually just wondering if I Like It would make it here because it debuted pop. Question is did they edit out Bad Bunny and J Balvin? That would be bad.
No thoughts on Nevermind yet.
I love Havana.
DeleteThey most likely did, because Hits 1 is fucking stupid and wants to be "family friendly" my ass.
DeleteI think it's supposed to be more HAC (hot adult contemporary)-friendly than family-friendly. HAC stations don't usually play rap music and cut the rap featured artists out of songs. Plus I don't even think Hits 1 censors the s-word in Maren Morris' Rich.
DeleteAs in they do cut the rap features.
DeleteNo, it's a pop station, and they keep using the tag "The 45 biggest hits in North America" and most of the rap doesn't spend much on the countdown and they cut out the rap because it's "Family friendly" It's a pop station that white-washes itself far too much.
DeleteI know it's a pop station, but it leans toward a HAC format (cutting out the rap artists and not adding rap songs) so it's kind of like a Pop-HAC station even though it is really pop.

ReplyDeleteNew Music Alert: Sam Hunt - "Downtown's Dead" (#5 on iTunes at the moment)
ReplyDeleteDiscuss.
No.
DeleteNew Music Alert: Fall In Line by Christina Aguilera ft. Demi Lovato & Change Lanes by Kevin Gates (#3 and #6 respectively on iTunes)
Miles, Downtown's Dead is new music alert.
DeleteIf it’s anything like BLABR it’s gonna suck ass
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI said that because whenever a new song by a controversial artist comes out everyone here talks about it for the next few hours. Doesn't mean I like it, I haven't even heard it yet.
Deleteswegawaffle: No it isn't, it is like a nice song to listen to.
DeleteI'm gonna have to listen to it to form an actual opinion but I seriously don't have high hopes for it since I personally don't like country music and BLABR was shit according to even the most die-hard country music fans along with basically everyone else except ATR
Delete^ATR didn't like that song. Apparently I loved it the most out of all of us last year and I don't even love it.
Delete#1 Recommendation for Hits 1: Christina Aguilera/Demi Lovato - Fall in Line
ReplyDeleteOkay guys good news. So, Pharrell & Camila are releasing a new single "Sangria Wine" this Friday. It will be released to pop radio stations May 22.
ReplyDeleteYessss!!
DeleteSurprise!

#1 Recommendation for Hits 1: LSD - Audio
ReplyDeleteTwo breakouts for the AT40 this week:
ReplyDeleteAJR - Sober Up
Rudimental - These Days
So that means Sober Up isn’t leaving anytime soon on Hits 1.

ReplyDeleteNew Music Alert: Don't Go Breaking My Heart- Backstreet Boys
ReplyDelete#1 on iTunes!
DeleteGoing to take a listen later.
Pretty good song. Glad to have these guys back. :)
DeleteI just heard it and it is really catchy.
DeleteHi everybody, I've got good news. Post Malone's "Better Now" is gaining traction at pop radio stations this week.
ReplyDeleteHow is this good?
DeleteI thought Better Now was going to alt radio. Or was it Over Now? I'm confused lol
Delete^Over Now was going to alt radio.
DeleteBetter Now is going to Top 40/Mainstream radio.
DeleteHey guys. I have some amazing news. At school today after 2nd hour, I had lunch with my friends with some music and one of the songs I heard was Something Just Like This. And I was like, “OH MY GOSH!!!” And then I told one of my friends that this song was in my Top 10 songs of last year.
ReplyDeleteNice. Don’t know if this is “amazing” news. Still a great song though.
