New Entrants
~ First up, we have Harry Styles returning with Two Ghosts. I wouldn't say it's as good as Sign Of The Times. But it still shows what Harry is capable of. I love how he's branching out into this genre of music. It's a lot more alternative and rock. So he gets my respect for going this route while every other One Direction member continued going pop. This is the kind of song I would listen to when probably trying to relax. There's no big production here. It's just a couple of instruments and Styles' voice, which all sound really good. I don't think it'll get big because this station isn't exactly one with this kind of music unfortunately. But we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
~ Next we have Andy Grammer with Give Love. Hits 1 omitted LunchMoney Lewis from the track, which I'm perfectly fine with. His part did nothing for me. I had a little bit of bumpy ride with this song. It's catchy, but that's about it. There's nothing about it that will make it stick. It will easily be forgotten a few months after it leaves. At least that's what I think. It's by no means a bad song. But it's not as good as some of his previous work. Maybe I'll grow into it, maybe not. I'll give it a few more listens and I'll get back to you guys if anything changes.
~ Next is Portugal. The Man breaking out of Alt Nation into the more mainstream stations with Feel It Still. I did find this song a bit mediocre at first listen. But after more listens, it's grown on me. It's still nothing amazing, but it's enjoyable at the very least. It's very catchy. Overall, I think it's a good song. I would like to see it do well on here.
~ Replacing herself on the countdown, we have Halsey with Bad At Love. I think this is a huge step up from Now Or Never. This is the kind of song I want to hear from Halsey. She has a very good voice and I'm glad she actually showed it off in this song as opposed to Now Or Never, which was very boring partially because of the vocals. This song isn't as underwhelming. It's a good song. It's probably not going to make my Top 45 of the year. But it's still something I can enjoy for a little while.
~ Next we have Justin Bieber along with one of the producers from his 2015/2016 hit, Sorry. This track is called Friends and it's essentially about Justin wanting to still be friends with his ex. I think the lyrical content is good. The vocals are very good. Justin is a very good singer. I'm not head-over-heels in love with the drop. But that aside, it's a good song. I'm sure people are pretty sick of Bieber at the moment after his guest appearance on Despacito helped it dominate on the Billboard Hot 100 for a solid 16 weeks. But I'm enjoying this song and I surprisingly still enjoy Despacito. I hope it does well.
~ Finally we have Maroon 5 with the highest debut of the week up at #23. As someone that's been a Maroon 5 fan for the longest time, this is pretty disappointing. I'll admit, the verses are okay and I like what SZA had to contribute. But the rest of the song just fell flat in my opinion. The chorus is underwhelming. We really don't need to hear Adam Levine's falsetto for an entire chorus. Overall, I think the song is boring. It's in red, but I guess you can say it's borderline blue. It's not an awful song by any means. But it's just disappointing considering that they've been one of my personal favorite bands.

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list:
- The Revivalists – Wish I Knew You
- Taylor Swift – ...Ready For It? (DEBUT)
- PRETTYMUCH – Would You Mind
- Why Don't We – Something Different (DEBUT)
- The All-American Rejects – Sweat
- Kelly Clarkson – Love So Soft (DEBUT)
- Sam Smith – Too Good At Goodbyes (DEBUT)
- Sabrina Carpenter – Why
- Zayn/Sia – Dusk Till Dawn (DEBUT)
- Hailee Steinfeld & Alesso/Florida Georgia Line/watt – Let Me Go (DEBUT)
- The Script – Rain (DEBUT)
- Selena Gomez – Fetish
- Evaride – Heartless
- Zedd/Liam Payne – Get Low
~ First we have Taylor Swift debuting with ...Ready For It?, which is NOT an official single. Me personally, I think this song is a lot better than Look What You Made Me Do. After listening to this song, Look What You Made Me Do got a bit more mediocre. But that's just me. I feel like there's more going on in this track. I like the production and the vocals are pretty good as well. Still nowhere near Taylor Swift's best work. But it's enjoyable.
~ Why Don't We – Something Different has a cool vibe to it and I like the production. The chorus seems a little repetitive. But that aside, it's a good song.
~ Next up, we have Kelly Clarkson debuting with Love So Soft. This song seems very bland if I'm being honest. I'm not a fan of the production. I hate the way her voice cracks. It reminds me of Julia Michaels. I get that she's trying something different, but it just doesn't work for me. I feel like she hit her peak with the very emotional Piece By Piece and now Love So Soft is bringing her back down. This is all just my opinion though.
~ It's been about three years since we've heard from Sam Smith. Right off the bat, I don't think this is as good as Stay With Me. But one of the things I love about Sam Smith is that he sings with so much soul and emotion and that really shows on Too Good At Goodbyes. I can feel every word he sings. That being said, there's great lyrical content. All in all, it's a good song. Nothing amazing, but I can appreciate it for what it is.

That being said, there's great lyrical content. All in all, it's a good song. Nothing amazing, but I can appreciate it for what it is.
~ Next we have Zayn featuring Sia with Dusk Till Dawn. This is probably one of the strangest, yet best collaborations of the year. I haven't been one with Zayn's music lately. But this song is perfection from start to end. Zayn sounds great during the verses and I love that exploding chorus where Zayn and Sia's vocals blend together and we get to hear what they're really capable of. This is a huge step up from Still Got Time and I hope it debuts soon.
~ Immediately following that, we have Hailee Steinfeld and Alesso debuting with Let Me Go. This track features Florida Georgia Line, making it another strange collab that works very well. I like the verses, but the chorus is what really grabs my attention. The vocals blend very nicely and the production is exceptional. I think Hailee Steinfeld manages to really show off her vocal capabilities on this song. It does seem a little bit like Starving 2.0, but I feel like Let Me Go has more to it that I can enjoy for a longer period of time. My only complaint is that it seems really short being less than three minutes. I really considered putting this song as my #1 pick this week. Though it may not be #1, it's a very close #2.
~ Finally, we have the return of The Script, who I've been a big fan of ever since I first heard Breakeven. Their new single, Rain, is definitely a different sound for them. But it's still something I can get into. I think the vocals could use a little more work. But what I think is amazing is that The Script have consistently impressed me with every single they've released, especially their lead singles. From Breakeven* and For The First Time to Hall Of Fame and Superheroes, this band really knows how to change up their sound while still appealing to fans like me.
*Breakeven is technically not a lead single. But it was the first song by them that I was exposed to.
Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Zayn/Sia – Dusk Till Dawn
2. Hailee Steinfeld & Alesso/F.G.L./watt – Let Me Go
3. The All-American Rejects – Sweat
4. The Script – Rain
5. Sam Smith – Too Good At Goodbyes
Bad At Blurbs
~ So Shawn Mendes is back at #1. Perfectly fine with me as long as it blocks out Strip That Down. And hey, I still have an excuse to look up pictures of him.
~ Nothing really changes in the Top 5 except for us welcoming back Something Just Like This. I wouldn't mind this song staying within the Top 10 for another couple of months. Though I'm sure people that are just sick of The Chainsmokers overall would disagree.
~ As far as our Top 10 entrants go, Sorry Not Sorry was destined to hit the Top 10 at some point. I'm also not surprised that Look What You Made Me Do is already in the Top 10. I actually thought it'd be higher. But whatever.
~ Jumping into the Top 15 this week, we have Kesha – Praying. I still adore this song, so I hope it can jump into the Top 10 sometime soon. It's easily one of the best songs on here.
~ And just like that, Hailee Steinfeld – Most Girls is back out of the Top 20. This song has been slightly fading on me lately. So I wouldn't mind if it continued to drop. But if it jumps back into the Top 20, I wouldn't mind that either.
~ I can't help but notice Spyder Harrison saying that Fall Out Boy – Champion had the Biggest DROP!!!!... of the Week when it actually didn't. Get your facts right, Spyder. That aside, I'm a little sad by this drop. But depending on how the rest of the year goes, it might be able to make my Top 45 of the year.
~ I'm also not very happy about the actual biggest DROP!!!... of the week. Feels might not be in my Top 5 picks at the moment. But it's still one of my personal favorite songs at the moment. The production and all the vocals are just on point and I'm sad that it couldn't even make it into the Top 10. But I'm grateful for how long it was here.
~ As far as our exits go, Mercy and Just Hold On both had pretty good countdown runs. I still like them, but I don't mind seeing them go. Now Or Never and Uh Huh both deserved to go. It's about damn time. That leaves us with two songs. Play That Song lasted much longer than I thought it would. Yet somehow, I never got sick of it. It was a good song while it lasted. You will somewhat be missed by me. Finally, we have one of the contenders for worst song of the year. Bad Liar has finally left the countdown! The fact that people actually praised this song confuses me. But at least it's gone. You will certainly not be missed.

UGH, I hate Ella Henderson - Ghost.
ReplyDeleteWell then you, my friend, are a hater.
Delete^^^^^
DeleteI love Ghost!
^^^^^^^^^^^
DeleteThat was for WAMB10's comment.
DeleteI hate Ghost!!!
DeleteI like it quite a bit.
DeleteMost missed song: Eden XO- Not Too Cool Too Dance
DeleteThrowback pick: Shawn Mendes- Something Big
DeleteDefinitely with you on your recommendation :)
ReplyDeleteCan you review the song, French Montana/Swae Lee- Unforgettable
Me personally, I think it is a very good song. Definitely one of the best songs of 2017 (10/10)
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteRedDog, my mistake is by telling you to go away. I actually like you RedDog.
DeleteAdrian what was your opinion on Shawn Mendes: Something Big from late 2014 early 2015?
DeleteIt's not really alternative or 2000s-2010s rock, it's more of 70s and 80s glam and classic rock that Harry is doing.
ReplyDeleteBut that bassline on WLD tho.
...Ready For It? will be a one weeker like WTNY, I can already tell.
Apparently Love So Soft sounds like soul/trap song, something I never envisioned someone like Kelly Clarkson do be doing.
Have you looked at the songs outside of Hits 1, there are songs I consider way worse than Bad Liar is. Who the fuck (outside of rap-hip-hop fans, looking at you Parker) wants to listen to some shitty rapper brag over a lazy trap beat, and terrible vocals about how much sex they're having?
Ghost is an avant garde masterpiece and I will hear no words of the contrary.
I have heard much worse than Bad Liar this year. When I say it's a contender for worst song of the year, I mean in Hits 1 only. Obviously there are worse songs from artists like Lil Uzi Vert and pretty much any other rapper.
DeleteYeah... To avoid complexity, I'm not going to include songs that aren't on Hits 1 in my bottom 10 of 2017. If I did, XO Tour Llif3 (What kind of title is that anyway?) Would definitely be at the bottom.
DeleteI'm pretty sure much of my bottom 10 this year shouldn't be a shock to anyone when they figure out what they are.
DeletePotential Worst candidates:
DeleteXO TOUR Llif3
Tunnel Vision
It's Everyday Bro
Cash Me Outside
Mask Off
Congratulations
Bad & Boujee
Body Like A Back Road
Juju On Dat Beat
Look At Me
No Flockin'
Bank Account
Strip That Down
Deja Vu
Bad Things
Swang
Selfish
Everyday We Lit
Don't Wanna Know
Rolex
Play That Song
Issues
Uh Huh
Fake Love
The entirety of AJR's The Click album
Peek A Boo
Drowning
The Race
Patty Cake
Magnolia
Woke Up Like This
Bon Appetit
Privacy
And probably a few more that I didn't list.
My bottom 10 so far:
Delete1. Childish Gambino - Redbone (If you've seen my blog, then yeah, you expected this)
2. Julia Michaels - Uh Huh
3. Dobre Brothers - You Know You Lit (This isn't even a song 😂)
4. Liam Payne - Strip That Down
5. Jake Paul/Team 10 - It's Everyday Bro
6. Logan Paul/Why Don't We - The Fall of Jake Paul (Told ya Why Don't We are kids who think they can sing!)
7. Why Don't We - These Girls (THIS IS SO CRINGY)
8. Sam Hunt - Body Like a Back Road
9. Post Malone/Quavo - Congratulations
10. Selena Gomez - Bad Liar (I don't know what to choose :p)
Adrian, I think your post looks nice.
ReplyDeleteHey Violet - Hoodie will sadly drop because it only has 17 spins this week, not even half of last week.
ReplyDeleteNo one cares!

DeleteI loved all of their songs
DeleteHey I care. But I would have been more saddened if it were Guys My Age. Now THAT deserved to be top 20 here.
DeleteChuckle Brothers, did you know that the emoji that you you used wasn't a crying emoji? Instead, it was an emoji of a person sleeping with a snot bubble.

ReplyDeleteThat was supposed to be a reply.
DeleteAt least the peaks are escalating Guys My Age- 28 Break My Heart- 22 Hoodie- 21
ReplyDeleteMaybe the next Hey Violet song could crack the top 20?
Hi.
DeleteOnce again, Adrian, great post! It's too bad we won't get to hear your reviews on AGT, but I'm definitely looking forward to next season.
ReplyDeleteI'm so with you on your Most Missed Countdown Song. I talked about it briefly in my 10,000 Pageview Special. But yeah, Ella Henderson - Ghost is divine.
Honestly, I may be in the minority, but I actually like Kelly Clarkson's soulful direction. And I don't just say it because I've always loved her as an artist. I think if Love So Soft were more pop, then I'm sure people will like it more. I do like how she sounds like Adele, especially in the intro. After hearing this, I don't really hear how she's trying to sound like Julia Michaels. I just don't really hear it.
On that note, have you heard Julia Michaels's new single, Worst In Me? I think you (and many others) will like this more. It's most definitely better than the monstrosity that is of Uh Huh.
I do agree with you on Bad Liar being one of your worst songs of the year (and mine as well). I'm so glad that enormous piece of trash took its departure. I honestly cannot stand that song. However, I think there are worse songs than this, but I won't get into it right now.
Nice to see someone other than me who actually isn't sick of Despacito.
And Miles, I've talked about Two Ghosts being more of a 70's-80's rock that Harry Styles is doing in my countdown post. I do agree that Sign Of The Times was better, though.
Hi Montavis.
DeleteI was thinking worst song of the countdown would be like a tie for Strip That Down and Issues. They both suck, though.
ReplyDeleteYes! So with you right there on Bad Liar. Definitely a contender for my Bottom 10 of the Year. Speaking of which, by October, I'm gonna get started on my Year End Posts.
This new style Harry Styles is going for, I actually really like. I'm with you right there in Two Ghosts.
And yeah, Montavis, Uh Huh was just a bare pile of poop.
Loving Let Me Go right now. Here's to hoping this debuts.
And Miles, ...Ready for It is probably gonna last a little longer than one week. It is trending (sorta) right now, though.
My thoughts exactly, but for me, the worst song on the countdown is still Body Like A Back Road. I can't believer North America let this get popular over any other country song. Good thing I'm hearing it little less now. It'll be out of the Top 5 this week.
Deletebelieve*
DeleteAnd yes, while BLABR is still crap, Sam Hunt has actually made some quality music (House Party, e.g.), but this song is just stupid
DeleteI agree.
DeleteOk, I checked the Hits 1 Voting List, and Wild Thoughts, Heavy, and It Ain't Me have been removed from the voting list.
ReplyDeleteWild Thoughts & Heavy off the list (my reaction)

DUSK TILL DAWN IN PURPLE!!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASS!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm very pleased to see that song in purple.
DeleteThat's my favorite song out right now.
DeleteUgh. Am I the only person who doesn't like Dusk Till Dawn?
ReplyDeleteHeck no that's why I am so happy.
DeleteI don't not like it, but it's not that good.
DeleteMatthew Linn: Yeah, I don't like it either. To put it easy, I'm just simply not a fan. Well, that's based on my initial reaction. My opinion could change. I'll have to listen to it more.
DeleteGood, but not great.
DeleteYou're not, Matthew. I hate it too.
DeleteAy, please be nice Gelography. WAMB10 didn't do anything wrong.
DeleteWAMB10/Matthew: I kinda grew into Dusk Till Dawn, I guess.
DeleteChase: -________-
TNF starts in 10 minutes! I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteNow, in TNF, the Houston Texans are playing the Cincinnati Bengals. Right?
ReplyDeleteWho do you want to win?
DeleteI don't really support either team, but probably Texans. Will be exciting to watch Deshaun Watson and J.J Watt.
DeleteTexans, only because Bengals are AFC North competition.
DeleteYup.
ReplyDeleteCan you shut up about football for God's sake? Not all of us care about football, and some of us already know and don't need to hear you announce every goddamn thing all the fucking time!!!
ReplyDelete5 minutes until the kickoff!
ReplyDeleteSHUT UP!!
DeleteWHAT DID YOU SAY?!
DeleteMiles, please be nice to ATR.
DeleteAnd here we go!
ReplyDeleteThey didn't show the national anthem.
ReplyDeleteATR: Do I look like I care? No. I'm not sure anyone else here does either.
ReplyDeleteI don't be see Cheat Codes/Demi Lovato - No Promises or Portugal. The Man - Feel It Still lasting long on the countdown.
ReplyDeleteThey will be lasting long on this countdown. I promise you.
DeleteNo they won't, they'll probably both last around 10 weeks.
DeleteBut ATR promises you no promises.

DeleteI just sang so beautifully right guys?
DeleteMaybe?
DeleteSomebody please delete Parker's comment with the lyrics from a song he likes.
DeleteOr else I'm going to do it.
DeleteNo you can't. Only Adrian or the person who commented it (Parker) can do that.
DeleteBut yeah, what even are those lyrics?
Adrian, please delete Parker's comment with the lyrics from a song he likes.
DeletePink Guy - Dora The Explorer, honestly one of the worst songs I have ever heard in my life
DeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
DeleteDora The Explora is just one of the songs from his mixtape I love. If I had to make a top 5 from it:
Delete1. STFU
2. Meme Machine
3. Hot Nickel Ball On A Pussy
4. Dora The Explora
5. Please Stop Calling Me Gay
With many honorable mentions.
WHY does someone have to create these stupid song titles...
DeleteIt's technically a comedy album, so it's supposed to be like that. Other titles/honorable mentions include:
DeleteI Have A Gun
Gays 4 Donald
I Do It For My Hood
Please Stop Touching My Willy
Uber Pussy
Hand On My Gat
D I C C W E T T 1
Rice Balls
SMD
Small Dick
Fried Noodles
I guess no more song lyrics. ;(
DeleteGuys, I really need more questions then 3 to answer on my Q&A. Parker and Chuckle Brothers put one in, so thanks to you two. The questions don't need to be Music-Related. They can be about gaming, school, sports, etc. And it is due by October 4, and I will be delaying the post to October 15, 2017. You can also ask as many questions as you want. Thank you. :)

DeleteHere is a rant for hits 1: Hoodie to 1 week to debut on this countdown. That was almost guaranteeing it to hit the top 20. It was at #21, it was a verge song on the AT40 but NOOOOOOOO, hits 1 had to make it lose airplay!
DeleteOH well, here goes to New Rules debuting the countdown!
DeleteHoodie needs to go away for life!

ReplyDeleteI don't think you realize that this means nothing to us.
DeleteStop, please just fucking stop! We should not have this type of shit, no more long winded lyrics from some song that I don't know that take up an entire page, no more predictions for whatever week it is, and no more best/worst weeks of some random countdown week none of us remember to care about.
ReplyDeleteWe're good. Only the admin of the blog can actually prevent that.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteOk guys. For the sake of scrolling, I'm deleting any comments that are unnecessarily long. Of course, if you have a lot to say about something, that's one thing. But it's another thing to be randomly commenting meaningless song lyrics. So please refrain from that.
ReplyDeleteAlso, no best/worst weeks of specific years either. I don't know anyone that can possibly remember what the hell happened on a certain week in 2012. So those comments are rather useless in my opinion.
On a scale of 0-10, how do you rank these throwbacks from each year?

This countdown ACTUALLY sucks. I really mean it now.
ReplyDeleteYou suck, because you don't understand anything that's not shitty urban music. Maybe if you weren't so close-minded you'd actually be able to enjoy most of this, but nope, your stuck believing that rap/hip-hop is the best thing and you'll never realize why most of us hate it.
DeleteI agree with Parker on this one. The Golden Ages from last week need to return.
DeleteThere was no "golden ages" last week, stop saying that shit!
DeleteBut he countdown was pretty much perfect IMO. All the exits deserved to leave, and the entrants deserved to enter, the biggest Jump deserved to jump, the biggest Drop deserved to drop, and the #1 was amazing.
Delete*the
DeleteBut it was not a "golden age" because of ONE WEEK. ONE WEEK MEANS NOTHING!!
Delete09/02/17 was also one of the best weeks this year.
DeleteThe reason why this week sucked is because what was the #2 most popular song in the country for 7 weeks, and one of my favorites for a while, left this week, over some ones I'd gladly prefer to leave. Like seriously?
DeleteIt's Hits 1, why are you so shocked when a rap/hip-hop songs doesn't do too well here. Strip That Down only got so far because of Liam's 1D status and nothing else.
DeleteMiles, you're absolutely correct. And here's another thing I mentioned in my latest post: if I'm The One leaving two weeks ago was an indication, I was afraid Wild Thoughts wouldn't be on the countdown much longer, and I was unfortunately correct.
DeleteIt's not that bad. (C- 70%)
DeleteThat was my favorite song on the countdown. Now it's a tie between Strip That Down, Feels, and maybe something else I'm forgetting.

DeletePeddictions For AGT
ReplyDelete10th Place: Sara & Hero
9th Place: Diavolo
8th Place: Evie Clair
7th Place: Kechi
6th Place: Mandy Harvey
5th Place: Chase Goehring
4th Place: Light Balance
3rd Place: Angelica Hale
Runner-Up: Preacher Lawson
Winner: Darci Lynn
This is 100% based on my opinion.
DeleteI think it'll really be:
Delete10th: Diavlo
9th: Evie Claire
8th: Kechi
7th: Light Balance
6th: Sara And Hero
5th: Chase Geohring
4th: Mandy Harvey
3rd: Preacher Lawson
2nd: Angelica Hale
1st: Darci Lynne
I'd be pissed if they won:
10. Evie (but her father died so I send my prayers to her and her family)
9. Kechi
I would be disappointed if they won:
No one!
I would be somewhat happy if they won:
8. Diavlo
I'd be thrilled if they win (even though the kids shouldn't win since they don't need 1m dollars):
7. Angelica Hale
6. Chase Geohring
5. Darci Lynne
4. Preacher Lawson
3. Sara And Hero
2. Mandy Harvey
1. Light Balance
