New Entrants
~ I guess we'll go from worst to best, starting with Ruth B. with I believe her debut single, Lost Boy. My main issue with this song is that it bores the crap out of me. I'm sure it has a nice meaning and I don't hate all songs that are stripped down like this, but this one is just plain out boring. Her voice isn't anything outstanding and overall, I'm not a huge fan of it. Let's move on.
~ All Time Low have returned with Missing You. I personally believe this song is a step down from Something's Gotta Give, which I was in love with when it was on the countdown. While I do think it is a step down, it's not easy for them to top Something's Gotta Give and Missing You is still a good song, just nothing I'm going to go out of my way to listen to. But hey, maybe that'll change in the future.
~ Alessia Cara returned this week after having the obnoxious Here on the countdown earlier this year. She's back with Wild Things, which has a completely different sound from Here. It's an interesting song if you ask me, and I may listen to it every now and then because I think she did a nice job. I do think I will get sick of it though if radio overplays it. But for now, I enjoy it.
~ Personally, I do believe that Joe Jonas is better singer out of all the Jonas brothers. With that being said, I really do like his part in Toothbrush, doing a really nice job vocally. As far as the song as a whole goes, it's quite catchy. When comparing this song to my early on opinion for Cake By The Ocean, Toothbrush does not manage to top it. Cake By The Ocean in my opinion had the more energetic chorus and was the better song overall. However, I do still think Toothbrush is a really catchy song and one of the best debuts this week. I do think Joe Jonas' voice is what caught my attention most, but the band does a nice job as well.
~ The way I viewed Charlie Puth featuring Selena Gomez was One Call Away featuring Hands To Myself, which made me scared of what I was going into. After listening to We Don't Talk Anymore, I have to say that I am impressed. The main thing I love about this song is the tropical beat and vibe to it. It's nothing crazy, but nothing boring. Both artists (especially Selena Gomez, shockingly) did a nice job on the vocals. This is the kind of the thing I want to hear more of from Selena Gomez. Her verse was pure voice. No whispering, no annoying whistling, no mumbling, pure voice. Well done Charlie Puth. I no longer look down upon you after the boring One Call Away. Overall, I really like this song and it's nice step up from One Call Away.
Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list:
We Don't Blurb Anymore
~ Ooh la la! Mike Posner – I Took A Pill In Ibiza took a really nice jump up to #3 this week. My new goal for this week is to do everything I can to make sure this song hits #1. That would be amazing.
~ Grace – You Don't Own Me is clearly one of those late bloomers. It's been over two months since this song debuted and it's just now reaching the Top 20. I'm still annoyed that Hits 1 edited out G-Eazy. As someone who despises a ton of rap music and rappers nowadays, G-Eazy's verse actually flowed really smoothly and added a lot to the song.
~ It was only a certain amount of time until Nick Jonas/Tove Lo – Close had to reach the Top 10. I am starting to lose interest slowly in this song, but I did grow back into liking a good amount this week. A couple weeks in the Top 10 will be fine by me.
~ Also in the Top 10, P!nk – Just Like Fire rose to #8 this week. I would love to see this song in the Top 5. It's still one of the most downloaded songs at this time and it'd be nice if it jumped into the Top 5 at some point.
~ Zara Larsson/MNEK – Never Forget You really deserves to be higher up in this countdown. It's quite ridiculous how it's all the way down at #39 when on other charts, it's in like, the Top 20 at the very least. Talk about Hits 1 underrating new artists that deserve recognition.
~ Twenty One Pilots – Stressed Out really should not still be in the Top 5. This song is getting more irritating every time I hear it. But I don't mind it staying in the Top 10 if that means Ride won't jump in the Top 10.
~ Ariana Grande – Dangerous Woman has hit a new peak at #11. Due to its mediocrity and the fact that Into You is now an official single, I would love if this song wouldn't jump any higher.
~ So I guess you can say that I grew back into Fifth Harmony – Work From Home. I once again think it's a pretty damn catchy song and I can't stop myself from singing along to it. To those who disagree with my opinion, you're just gonna have to deal with it because it's a fun song to get down to.
~ I did grow into liking Daya – Sit Still, Look Pretty. She really does have a great voice. It's not as good as Hide Away, but it still shows how talented this girl is.
~ The Summer Set – Figure Me Out made quite the jump into the Top 20 this week. I still think this song is nothing but a space filler, but that's just my opinion.
~ As far as our exits go, we got rid of three big songs that needed to go. So it's really nice to see that. As far as the other two go, America's Sweetheart was pretty underrated and I actually thought it was a really good song that showed off Elle King's amazing folk-rock type voice. Lastly we have Justin Bieber – Sorry, which unfortunately had to leave this week. I know a lot of people disagree with my opinion, but I still love that song. It was a completely new sound for Justin Bieber that worked out really well. I still think it's annoying that this song did not hit #1, but it did manage to reach #2. While this song is unfortunately not eligible for my Top 45 Songs of 2016, it will always be remembered as possibly my favorite Justin Bieber song.*
*My favorite song from him used to be Beauty and a Beat, but that could very possibly change.
~ I completely agree with both our Biggest Jump and DROP!!!... of the week this week. Hands To Myself really needs to move down and leave for good and Cake By The Ocean needs to drop more at the very least. And it is nice to see Cheap Thrills in the Top 20.
~ The Hit 45 Chart for this week is currently being worked on. Hopefully it'll be out sometime tomorrow at the latest. You can still follow the link down below to check for when I post it. From there, you'll find out if Coldplay can hold at #1 for a third week in a row and an eighth time overall with Hymn For The Weekend!

1. Mike Posner – I Took A Pill In Ibiza
2. P!nk – Just Like Fire
3. Charlie Puth/Selena Gomez – We Don't Talk Anymore
4. Zara Larsson/MNEK – Never Forget You

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list:
- Bebe Rexha/Nicki Minaj – No Broken Hearts
- Adele – Send My Love (To Your New Lover)
- Jacob Whitesides – Lovesick
- Magic! – Red Dress
- Alesso/Nico & Vinz – I Wanna Know
- AJR – I'm Not Famous
- Disturbed – The Sound of Silence
- Symon – Say
- Flo Rida/Jason Derulo – Hello Friday
- The 1975 – The Sound
- Kent Jones – Don't Mind
- Shawn Mendes – Treat You Better
- Ben Rector – Brand New
- Jordan Fisher – All About Us
~ Send My Love (To Your New Lover) is still nowhere near Adele's best. But to say the very least, it is better than When We Were Young and it's actually pretty catchy.
~ Just when I thought that Magic! was becoming a tolerable band, they release Red Dress, which is a perfect example of why reggae music isn't my thing. I actually liked Lay You Down Easy, but this one not so much.
~ AJR are back apparently. Right off the bat, I'm Not Famous isn't the atrocious mess I'm Ready was nor is it anywhere near that low. Their voices shine a bit more in this one and I like that. However, the rest of the song doesn't seem that interesting and while it's not bad, it's not good either.
~ Brand New by Ben Rector really isn't anything I'll remember in a year from now. It's good, but nothing amazing.
~ Finally, we have Jordan Fisher – All About Us, which needs to debut soon. This song is amazing. This guy has one hell of a voice.
Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. TIE: Shawn Mendes – Treat You Better
1. TIE: Jordan Fisher – All About Us
3. Bebe Rexha/Nicki Minaj – No Broken Hearts
4. Alesso/Nico & Vinz – I Wanna Know

Color changes review:
ReplyDeleteIrresistible (turquoise->yellow): Why???
Pillowtalk (turquoise->red): Yay!!!
Jet Black Heart (green->pink): I'm growing out of it too.
Sit Still, Look Pretty (blue->green): Yay!!!
Cake By The Ocean (turquoise->red): FINALLY!!!
Victorious (blue->pink): No comment.
Work From Home (blue->green): Yay!!!
Stressed Out (yellow->turquoise): Nice.
Questions:
Are you growing back into Irresistible?
Why is Red Dress in red? (I love that song!)
Another question:
DeleteWhen will the Song Wars results be posted?
I haven't listened to Irresistible in a while, so when I heard it on Hits this past week, I kind of enjoyed again slightly.
DeleteRed Dress is way too reggae and quite annoying in my opinion.
I'm hoping I can post the results tomorrow.
Hits 1*
DeleteI'm glad we finally got rid of One Call Away, and I also quickly got out of In The Night. But, I am disappointed that this is the first week since November without Adele on it. I really hope Send My Love (To Your New Lover) debuts soon. And as far as the last 2 go, I really loved them and I hate the fact that America's Sweetheart left so early.
ReplyDeleteAs far as our debuts go, the only one that actually interested me was Wild Things. I don't like We Can't Talk Anymore or Lost Boy, because of how boring they sound. And I don't really care about Toothbrush or Missing You.
I'm quite surprised that Kill 'Em With Kindness and Me Too didn't have a big jump this week, considering how much airplay they both got. I hope this is a sign that both of them will flop and drop fast, especially Me Too.
I didn't expect Close to make a big jump into the top 10.
I don't mind New Romantics being at #1.
Please tell me that Work From Home is going to drop soon. I couldn't bear it if it hit #1.
I really don't care about You Don't Own Me, I just don't see what makes it interesting, or how its in the top 20.
I'm now completely over Pillowtalk, and I'm glad it dropped. Same thing goes with Hands To Myself, and Cake By The Ocean.
Thank God Cheap Thrills is finally in the top 20 here.
Am I seriously the only one here who still loves Stressed Out?
I agree with Adrian on Dangerous Woman and Into You. I prefer Into You more.
Wow, I didn't expect to see a OneRepublic song is actually flopping by doing absolutely nothing on this countdown.

DeleteYour right, but they are some of the best quotes. Thanks a lot Mike Posner fro your god-awful Cooler Than Me.
DeleteI love Cooler Than Me!
DeleteI can't stand it. It yet another club banging song that just annoys the hell out of me. To be 100% honest with you, I hated 2010 when it came to music. It was the year when basically club music just blew up. And this song is the pure definition of an awful club song. I also can't stand the lyrics, the beat, and Mike's voice sounds... well its something alright.
DeleteIf I could write you a song,
And make you fall in love,
I would already have you up under my arm.
I used up all my tricks,
I hope that you like this.
But you probably won't,
You think you're cooler than me.
You got designer shades,
Just to hide your face and
You wear them around like
You're cooler than me.
And you never say hey,
Or remember my name.
Its probably 'cause,
You think you're cooler than me.
WHAT DOES IT FUCKING MEAN!?!?
The thing is that I never cared about lyrical content back then. I actually found the beat really catchy and I love Mike Posner's voice. I personally thought it had a really nice production.
DeleteHe sounds so boring under that club based production. It ruins the song for me when he sounds so unenthused. Unlike in I Took A Pill In Ibiza, he sings about being a one-hit wonder and being "a reminder of a pop song people forgot" and that the reason he took a pill in Ibiza was "to show Avicii I was cool." He voice sounds better under the SeeB remix because the backing instruments are so heavily club based as it was for Cooler Than Me. The only time it pick up is with the drop, which I think is the 2nd best drop of the year by the way.
DeleteCooler Than Me also reminds me more of it parodying pop music what with the lyrics
If I could write you a song,
And make you fall in love,
I would already have you up under my arm.
I used up all my tricks,
I hope that you like this.
But you probably won't,
You think you're cooler than me.
Another thing I hate is when people make music to wither "get famous" or "become cool", well this song is the definition of this song.
As said by a certain other YouTuber known as TheDoubleAgent, Cooler Than Me is "maybe the lamest song of all time", and while I wouldn't 100% agree with that *cough Marvin Gaye cough*, yeah it's pretty dumb. Really the only thing I like about Cooler Than Me after re-listening to it is that drop at the very end of the song.
DeleteHe also said that Mike Posner is good at "making himself look like a total fucking loser", and that's why it works so well in I Took a Pill In Ibiza.
I agree, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who watches TheDoubleAgent.
DeleteMiles you should watch the YouTube channel Music Video Sins I think you would like it
DeleteI have watched it before, and I really don't care. I have seen CinemaSins as well, but I prefer the new channel CinemaWins.

It was a pretty good song. Not the #1 of 2015 for me though.
DeleteIs Taylor Swift the first artist to have two songs hit #1 on the same date? Three records would be pretty cool!

1. Taylor Swift – Shake It Off (pink?*)
*Shake it Off is my favorite song of all time, but it's a little older than Parachute, which was the next best song on the countdown, so...IDK...
Its so damn stereotypically outdated, sexist, white-trash, and a rip-off of a song that was already a rip-off of an actual song from the 60s. Why did they have to make another 60s doo-wop bubblegum pop concoction, just like the rest of her freaking debut album?
DeleteMarvin Gaye has the same problem. Stereotypically outdated 60s doo-wop, only mixing it with 808s and trap elements making it even worse, white-trash, and it is also the least sexiest song ever, even as a tribute to Marvin Gaye. Did anyone even have sex while this song played?

DeleteAnd what's so bad about Jealous?
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteOn the note of Jealous, it's the fact that Nick Jonas thinks he has the right to be hellish.
DeleteI may do this too, but not at this very second.
The annoying pretentious lyrics like "its my right to be hellish" well in reality its not. And, Nick's vocals are way too high here.
DeleteYou read my mind Scott.
DeleteMy favorite song of all time is at #9 on that countdown, not this countdown. Nick Jonas/Tove Lo - Close isn't my favorite song of all time.
DeleteIt's not Echosmith - Bright either, I mean Ariana Grande/Zedd - Break Free.

DeleteMy favorite song of all time was the first song to spend 12 weeks at #1.
DeleteShake It Off?

DeleteSo... I too agree not only that I hope for I Took a Pill In Ibiza to hit #1, but on Into You - that song needs to be officially released to radio already! Let's see more success from Ari this year, after 2015 only gave us One Last Time (and I guess Focus, but that didn't take off after its debut).
ReplyDeleteAnd totally agree on Never Forget You, that took two undeserved drops in a row and that makes me sad. :(

18. Me Too - Yuck.
34. Flex (All In My Head)
Two minutes apart...whoa.
DeleteI didn't see Flex (All In My Head) debuting at #34.
DeleteIsn't it All in My Head (Flex)? (The other way around)
DeleteI have no clue, because I never listened to the song.
DeleteIt's Flex in parentheses. I haven't listened to the song either.
DeleteIt's All In My Head (Flex).
DeleteYeah, it is All In My Head (Flex), not the other way around. And it's actually 32, not 34. And it's way better than Work From Home, I'll say that much.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI said it was All in My Head (Flex), not Flex (All in MY Head). And I'm not a b****!!!
DeleteAll in My Head (Flex) does not debut on the Hot 100. The hot shot debut is a Kanye West song from The Life Of Pablo.
DeleteThis Week in Billboard Chart History: In 1992, Mariah Carey's Jackson 5 Remake Ruled the Hot 100
ReplyDeleteThanks to Carey, "I'll Be There" hit No. 1 for a second time. Plus, remembering feats by Carrie Underwood, Richard Marx & Debbie Gibson.
Your weekly recap celebrating significant milestones from more than seven decades of Billboard chart history.
June 20, 1992
Mariah Carey's "I'll Be There," from her MTV Unplugged special, topped the Billboard Hot 100. As the Jackson 5's original version hit No. 1 in 1970, the song is one of nine compositions to lead the Hot 100 as recorded by two artists.
June 21, 2008
Her mama (in the song) might've been ashamed that her daughter didn't know her last name after waking up married in Vegas, but the real life mom of Carrie Underwood had to be proud when the singer's "Last Name" topped Hot Country Songs eight years ago this week.
June 22, 2013
Three years ago today, the 2013 song of the summer began its 12-week atop the Billboard Hot 100, as Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines," featuring T.I. and Pharrell, reached the summit.
June 23, 1990
M.C. Hammer's signature party tune, "U Can't Touch This," topped Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. (Donning parachute pants as you watch now is optional.)
June 24, 1989
After landing four Billboard Hot 100 top 10s from his self-titled debut album in 1987-88, including the No. 1 fourth single "Hold On to the Nights," Richard Marx reigned again with "Satisfied," the first offering from his second album, named, with a wink at rock critics, Repeat Offender.
June 25, 1988
Debbie Gibson became the youngest person to have written, produced and sung a Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 entirely on her own (still a record among women), as "Foolish Beat" skipped to the top spot. How'd she follow that achievement? The very next day, the then-17-year-old graduated high school.
June 26, 1971
Carole King began a five-week command on the Adult Contemporary chart with "It's Too Late." Iconic parent album Tapestry spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the longest reign for a non-soundtrack studio album by a woman until Adele's 21 came along and logged 24 weeks on top.
When will the Hit 45 Chart and the Song Wars results happen?
ReplyDeleteI'm working on both.
DeleteOkay. :)
DeleteIt's been one week since you looked at me
ReplyDeleteCocked your head to the side
and said I'm angry
Five days since you laughed at me saying
Get that together come back and see me
Three days since the living room,
I realized it's all my fault, but couldn't tell you
Yesterday you'd forgiven me
But it'll still be two days till I say I'm sorry.
When will the Hit 45 Chart and the Song Wars results happen? (Again.)
ReplyDeleteHe said he was working on it.

Sweatshirt is really bad...I know it's the kid's debut single and all but it's really annoying😑😑
ReplyDeleteIt's the kid's voice that makes it only okay for me.
DeleteChanged my profile pic so I can calm down about the BBH100 news
ReplyDeleteJust go to the Billboard Hot 100 website, because I can't be bothered to type it all.

Miles, what is so bad about Want U Back?! That song is so much fun!!!
DeleteThe way the song opens with Cher Lloyd's grunting is obnoxious. I mean, what the fuck is this. I knew British pop could get bad, but Jesus Christ and God almighty. I'll say it, its the most obnoxious song of the current century. The way that Cher Lloyd paints herself as such an obnoxious, selfish, clingy bitch, that I'm honestly inclined to assume is satire. But really I don't care if this is satire or not, the end result is way too annoying to justify its existence either way. Every single element to this production is grating on a level that I originally didn't anticipate was possible. The sparkly percussion, the stuttering bass, the sporadic synths, every little detail just adds to the atrocity. Its great England is trying to share some of its culture with us, but they can keep this one.
DeleteGuys I'm graduating next week and I am so TOTES excited! It's the day before my last day of school

DeleteThe Hot 45 Chart is out with a whole new setup-ish! <3
ReplyDeleteI think that this week may be the first where the #1 is in purple for Adrian...
ReplyDeleteWant U Back was awesome and just fun to jam out to. We haven't had any Cher Lloyd music in a while actually. And Chase your quitting?
ReplyDeleteIts obnoxious, and annoying. Cher paints herself as an obnoxious, selfish, clingy bitch in the song its almost satire. And the production of the song makes it worse, because I have no fucking idea how it is fun to jam out to. The sparkly percussion, the stuttering bass, the sporadic synths, every little detail just adds to the atrocity. How is it actually fun, when the lyrics go like this:
DeleteBoy you can say anything you wanna
I don't give a shh, no one else can have ya
I want you back
I want you back
Wa-want you, want you back
Uh
I broke it off thinking you'd be cryin'
Now I feel like shh looking at you flyin'
I want you back
I want you back
Wa-want you, want you back
Uh
Please, this ain't even jealousy (jealousy)
She ain't got a thing on me (a thing on me)
Tryin' to rock them ugly jeans jeans jeans
Uh
You clearly didn't think this through
If what I've been told is true (is it true?)
You'll be crawling back like boo hoo hoo
Uh
This is the most obnoxious song of the current century, and it further proves my theory that British pop has never been so bad until this piece of shit you call music entered the scene.
Is WFH worse?
DeleteI don't think Chase is quitting.
DeleteOh yeah, Work From Home is worse. Want U Back isn't even the worst song of 2012. That dishonor goes to Rack City by Tyga.

Okay, I know this isn't the place to mention this, but . and Parker Scott, please stop fighting on my blog entries. And others' blog entries for that matter. I don't want my page being spammed with unnecessary banter that couldn't have anything less to do with the topic at hand, and neither does anyone else. Thanks!
