Merry Blurbmas!
~ It seems as though any song can pretty much hit #1 if Starving can manage to do it. There is nothing about this song that makes it #1-worthy. Frankly at first listen it just felt like another song. It has nothing special to it. There are other songs on this countdown that are certainly more worthy of that spot. This is just getting overplayed.

~ On top of that, the entire Top 5 and #11-#15 range have all held their spots. Unfortunately due to it being the end of the year, we might not see any massive changes on this countdown until we turn our calendars to January.

~ The jump into the teens from Zayn/Taylor Swift – I Don't Wanna Live Forever is no surprise. I'm still having a hard time getting used to this song as I still can't stand Zayn's falsetto. For the second week, it has barely made it to green. I can already tell that this song will be a pain in the ass very soon.

~ Pitbull/Flo Rida/LunchMoney Lewis – Greenlight has begun to fade on me. I still like Flo Rida's verse. Pitbull's verse is okay. But LunchMoney Lewis' take on the chorus is getting old. It wasn't that good to begin with. I don't love this dude's voice. This song is unfortunately not sticking with me.

~ At #'s 29 and 28 we have John Legend – Love Me Now (yay!) and Charli XCX – After The Afterparty (eww). It's nice to see the former of these two make the jump into the Top 30. Steve Aoki/Louis Tomlinson – Just Hold On also barely made it into the Top 30 on week #2. A little shocking if you ask me. Hopefully soon, this song can make a bigger jump and be the hit I want it to be.

~ Fifth Harmony – That's My Girl really hasn't been doing much on this countdown. I haven't listened to it that much recently so my opinion stays where it is for now. But at this point I pretty much know that this will not become the next Work From Home.

~ The drop down into the Bottom 5 from DJ Snake/Justin Bieber – Let Me Love You was rather unnecessary and pretty damn annoying. I'll admit that this song spent a good amount of time in the Top 10. But did it seriously have to drop all the way into the Bottom 5 like that? Probably not.

~ It's safe to say that all of these songs have pretty much made it into 2017. So congrats to all of them. Especially those that I did not really see it coming for like Calvin Harris – My Way and Kenny Chesney/P!nk – Setting The World On Fire. But unfortunately, we are still stuck with songs like 5 Seconds of Summer – Girls Talk Boys. I can guarantee that one will be out come January 7^th.

Year-End Special – 2016: A Year In Review

What a year 2016 has been. If I'm being really honest here, 2016 was certainly not one of the best years we've had. It has been filled with some obnoxious trends, some very sad deaths, and a new President that's probably going to do more harm than good. Sure, we got some good things out of 2016. I mean, the Chicago Cubs won the World Series for the first time since 1908. So that's pretty historic. I can now say that I lived to see the Cubs win a World Series. But there was a lot that made 2016 a little bit of a shitty year. I think the big thing was the deaths of some of our music legends. The two biggest ones? David Bowie and Prince. Me personally, I have enjoyed quite a bit of David Bowie's music. He was a very talented individual his death definitely saddened me. I haven't listened to much of Prince's music, but I know a lot of people probably looked up to him and considered him their idol, which I can completely understand. But yeah. Those two deaths were ones that were all over the news days after they occurred. They definitely made 2016 not as good as we had hoped it would be.


As far as the music that we got this year, I'm not that impressed. Don't get me wrong, we certainly did get a load of good music this year, which you will see when I count down my Top 45 Songs of the Year. But we also got a lot of shitty music. However, I will say that a lot came from the rap genre, which really does not surprise considering that this isn't the first year we've gotten a load of trashy rap music. But aside from that, we also got some bad singles from new artists, which is never good because then they have a bad first impression. There were some pretty bad songs from artists that I like, which is very disappointing. So what I'm going to do right now is I'm going to count down the worst songs of 2016. However, I'm going to do it differently than I've done it previous years. I'm going to count down the 10 worst songs of the year overall. So it will not be restricted to only songs that were on the Weekend Countdown. It can be any song from this year. So let's get into my Bottom 10 Songs of 2016. But first, here are my dishonorable mentions!

Bottom 10 Songs Of 2016
10. Lukas Graham – Mama Said - This group brought an amazing song this year known as 7 Years. But I gotta say, this was a really weak follow-up. The verses are just straight up mediocre and I cannot stand the chorus. Grabbing a bunch of kids to join you in the chorus of a song is not always a good idea. Sometimes it may work, but this time it did not. And my goodness that last chorus is painful to listen to. Let's just move on because this song does not deserve anymore of my time.


9. Beyoncé – Formation - I guess you can call me a Beyoncé hater because I don't like the majority of her songs. However, she is talented and she does have a good voice. Only issue is that she doesn't use it in songs like these. She has not proved herself to be a good rapper and unfortunately she still does it on songs like Formation. Overall, it's a very weird song and not weird in a good way. I do not like the instrumentation. And as one my favorite album reviewers, ARTV, quoted, "The opening sound effects sound like somebody plucking a rubber band to try and get the sound."


8. Kent Jones – Don't Mind - I'll admit that this song isn't as bad now as it was back when it was actually popular. The reason behind that is probably because a lot other shitty music came around afterwards and made Don't Mind actually seem like a decent song in comparison. I still think the production is very lazy and the lyrical content is just dumb. And no, it is not cool when you throw in lyrics in all these different languages that you probably used Google Translate for.


7. Rihanna/Drake – Work - Some may consider this to be one of the overhated songs of 2016. But honestly this song is just straight up crap just like the majority of Rihanna's new album. When I think of Rihanna's music, I think of songs like Disturbia and Umbrella, both of which were amazing songs, not this excuse of a song. Being one of the two songs to completely overuse the word "work", it's very repetitive and soon enough the chorus just becomes impossible to understand. Drake adds absolutely nothing to the song and the production overall is just very lazy. And it sucks because I love Rihanna. I guess I can understand that she's trying something new like she did with FourFiveSeconds and American Oxygen. But this just does not work. And it's not just her music. Her featuring in Calvin Harris' This Is What You Came For is rather disappointing as well. But I won't get into that. Those who have been with me for the past few months know how I feel about that song.


6. Zay Hilfigerrr/Zayion McCall – Juju On That Beat - It's fun to see these attempts at catchy songs come around and then do very poorly around the world. I'd like to point out the United States is the only country where this song was a Top 10 hit. I'm rather ashamed by that. It makes America look bad. Honestly we really do not need songs like this one that only have the intent of starting new trends. Like most rap songs nowadays, it just doesn't make sense. I'm not following any of the lyrics. It's honestly just a flat out mess that's pretty much only trying to be that one big anthem of the year. And did it happen? No! It just came and went. Absolutely no one will remember this in a few months. At least I hope not.


5. Jacob Sartorious – Sweatshirt - Yep. It's official. Anyone, despite their age and level of talent, can become famous. Pretty sad if you ask me. Especially when you get someone like Jacob Sartorious, who looks like he's nine-years-old. His level of talent is pretty much all the way down into the negatives. Honestly, I do not know how the hell this guy thinks he can a singer. His voice legitimately sucks. And I don't need the whole, "He's only a kid, stop being so mean." What he needs to realize is that when you become famous, no matter how old you are, you have to learn how to accept criticism because everyone gets it. My piece of advice? Take some damn vocal lessons. Thankfully Sweatshirt was not a huge hit as it was on the Billboard Hot 100 for one week. But honestly kid, you need to step up your game big-time.


4. Kiiara – Gold - Oh look. Another artist that has ultimately failed to impress me with her debut single. First off, if you title your EP, "low kii savage", I legitimately cannot take your seriously. I've listened to this song quite a few times and I honestly do not know what is going on or what is being sung because I can't understand any of it. And I cannot stand those obnoxious vocal effects that come up in the song like four different times. That part is extremely repetitive and it was honestly never even good. Similar to Formation, this song is just weird, and not the good kind of weird. It's the kind of weird that just makes you want to slowly step away. Overall, obnoxious vocal effects, lame beat, and weak use of lyrical content. I doubt anyone will remember who Kiiara is in a few months from now and Gold will just be forever buried in the cemetery of forgettable songs.


3. D.R.A.M./Lil Yachty – Broccoli - Here we go again with a song that made the Top 5 here in the United States while not even making the Top 20 in every other country. America, you need to seriously get your shit together. And as I was thinking that I would never find anyone in the hip-hop/rap genre with a voice worse than Fetty Wap, I find Lil Yachty. His voice is just beyond annoying. How no one stopped this utter piece of shit from being produced I will never understand. This is unfortunately where our music is headed and frankly, I'm just ashamed. It's embarrassing that this song actually peaked in the Top 5 here in America. The music video is atrocious. I do not see how anyone can possibly enjoy this. If America actually thinks this song is good, we're going to have some serious issues. I can tell you right now that this song is not making me want to eat broccoli. In fact, it's driving me further away from it.


2. MØ – Kamikaze - With songs like Broccoli and Juju On That Beat, there are at least those people that can see the atrocity these songs are. But with Kamikaze, I feel very alone with this opinion. But I don't care because this song is shit. Complete shit. And this is coming from someone who actually considered Lean On to be one of the best songs of 2015. Right off the bat, this girl sucks when she is solo. Her Major Lazer collaborations have been very good, but her solo singles have been rather obnoxious. MØ has one of those voices that can either sound really good or really awful depending on how she uses it. Unfortunately with this song, she shows off what I do not like about her voice. Especially when she's shouting, "Kamikaze!" It just does not sound good with the song's production, which is another issue I'm having. I cannot stand the production. It was very poorly done. This honestly sounds like something a child would've done, which actually kind of makes sense since MØ's voice sounds a lot like the voice of a child. If you ask me, I think MØ should just stick to doing featured roles on professional DJ-produced tracks. Something like Lean On or Cold Water.


1. Desiigner – Panda - Those who know me well really should not be surprised by this. I'm disappointed at the fact that this was actually a #1 hit in America (no surprise). And Billboard had quite the nerve to put this song at #6 on their Year-End Hot 100. This song is an amazing example of everything I do not like to hear. Like 90% of the rap songs today, this song has a really lazy and obnoxious beat and production. Unfortunately it does not change at all during the song so it does sound very repetitive. But it's also the "vocals" and "lyrical content" that are hurting this song. It's very hard to critique the lyrical content when you can't understand anything that's being said. I should not have to look up the damn lyrics. I should be able to listen to this song and get a general sense of what's going on. But with this all I hear is non-stop gibberish. And the "vocals" are awful as well. Dude has a terrible voice and his rapping skills are all the way down at the very bottom. And don't even get me started on the random and obnoxious vocal effects (such as yells) we hear in the background. This song is a perfect example of why I despise today's rap music. I much prefer when rap music actually had some meaning to it. But now for whatever reason, we think it's cool if we start rapping about drugs or something along those lines. It really isn't. I'm just ashamed that this is what music is coming to. Unfortunately rap music has become songs like this one, Broccoli, and Juju On That Beat, which is very sad, yet very true. Let's hope that 2017 can be a better year. Maybe we won't get a song as atrocious as this. At least I hope.




With our #1 songs this past year, a few of them had a pretty long reign at the top. Even if it wasn't a consecutive number of weeks, we did have some songs surpass five weeks. There was even one song that had a 12-week reign at #1 on the countdown, yet spent over half of that at #1 in 2015. As far as what I think of our #1 songs, I'm think it's a pretty decent list. Not all of these songs got overplayed enough to the point where I got sick of them. Surprisingly I'm still not sick of the two songs that spent the longest time at #1 this year. Magic! had the worst Hit-Bound dropout of the year with the song that unfortunately also had the longest Hit-Bound tenure of the year. But for the best song, it was a little bit of a competition between two songs that I thought were amazing this past year. I was really upset that neither of them made it on the countdown and choosing one of them to hand this award to was rather difficult. But I have made my decision.

2016 Lights Over Paris Hit-Bound Hero Award Winner: Disturbed – The Sound of Silence (with Back 2 U being its competition)

I am pretty impressed with Hits 1 as they picked up almost every hit song this past year. Typically, they tend to leave out some songs for whatever reason, despite them being massive hits. Last year, I recognized Skrillex & Diplo/Justin Bieber – Where Are Ü Now as it never made it on to the Weekend Countdown, but spent several weeks on Hits & Misses with Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz. I awarded it with the Biggest Whiff of the Year award, the award that goes to the biggest song that did not make it on to the countdown. But there was one song that was a huge hit for some reason and thankfully did not make it on to Hits 1. But now I unfortunately have to recognize it with an award as much as it does not deserve any awards. This song was the only song in the Top 10 of Billboard's Hot 100 Songs of the Year that did not make it to the countdown. I'm not surprised Hits 1 never picked up on it and frankly I despise even talking about it. So let's just get this over with.

And on top of studying for these tests, I've also had a ton of work that was due on Monday, which was the last day before finals. So that's why I could not get this out over the weekend. ~ First up, we have the return of Zayn Malik and Taylor Swift on the new single from Fifty Shades Darker, I Don't Wanna Live Forever. Fifty Shades Of Grey easily had one of the best soundtracks of the year with songs like Earned It by The Weeknd and the incredible Love Me Like You Do by Ellie Goulding. I can easily say that I Don't Wanna Live Forever does not top either of these songs. I mean, it is a good song. But my main issue with this song is Zayn's falsetto. I'm not loving that part. But I do really like what Taylor Swift has to offer. I did have this song in blue last week and it managed to cross over to green. But it can easily change back. I'll consider this song good for the time being. But I already know it's not gonna stick with me in the long run.

~ Next we have the return of Steve Aoki since Linkin Park – A Light That Never Comes, which ranked as my #1 song of 2013. He's back along with One Direction member Louis Tomlinson with Just Hold On. This song is reportedly about Louis' mother, who sadly passed away recently. I do really like this song. Sure, it doesn't top some of Steve Aoki's previous work (A Light That Never Comes). But I love the vocals on this track. Louis Tomlinson has always been my favorite from One Direction and his voice shines bright in this song. Good beat, great vocals. Ultimately, it's a really good song. And I gotta say, by having Louis Tomlinson as the featured vocalist, Steve Aoki just got himself a big hit.

~ I think G-Eazy is probably one of the best rappers of the year. Vengeance On My Mind is really good in my opinion. I love his verses and I think Dana does an excellent job in the chorus. If it were up to me, I'd say this song should be a big hit.

~ I think the big reason as to why I love Savage is that I love the beat. The drop is really cool and infectious. MAX's vocals sound really good. But it was the drop that really grabbed my attention.

~ Nobody's Better is another one of my favorites. Despite me finding Fetty Wap to be one of the most annoying vocalists alive, he actually sounds really good in this track. I still can't understand what he's saying, but the song itself is still really catchy.

~ Dawin continues to unimpress me with his annoying beats and obnoxious drops. Someone seriously needs to just tell this guy to stop. He's trying too hard and it's not working.

~ No, what you are seeing is not an error. Black Beatles has officially become one of my biggest guilty pleasures of 2016, up there with Meghan Trainor – Me Too. It's catchy beat and I actually really like the vibe to it. So no, I do not hate every rap song out there today. I despise most of them. But there are those few that come every now and then that are just undeniably catchy.

I Don't Wanna Blurb Forever
~ So Hailee Steinfeld & Grey/Zedd – Starving is somehow the #1 song in North America. I honestly think Love Myself would've had a better chance at #1 than this considering that that song is actually better. Not to say that this isn't good, but it's being ranked much higher than it should.

~ It's pretty clear that if Maroon 5 doesn't have a Top 5 hit on this countdown, there's something wrong. So Don't Wanna Know hitting the Top 5 was very expected and it was really just a matter of when it would do it.

~ Speaking of Maroon 5, I did hear Moves Like Jagger a few times within last week and early this week. If you're like me when that song comes on and you turn the volume all the way up dancing like crazy while singing Christina Aguilera's verse at the top of your lungs, you could probably become my new best friend.

~ Martin Garrix/Bebe Rexha – In The Name Of Love has jumped into the Top 10, making it Martin Garrix's best performing song on this countdown (even though this is only his second one). But I have really been enjoying this song a lot lately. So I'm happy to see it have some success.

~ Ariana Grande/Nicki Minaj – Side To Side finally jumped pretty high all the way up to #11. This can only mean one thing: Ariana Grande – Into You finally dropped out of the Top 20. Thankfully it didn't get as bad as Dangerous Woman, I am getting pretty sick of this song and it's about time that it dropped.

~ Daya – Sit Still, Look Pretty also took a long-awaited drop out of the Top 20. I did grow back into this song very slightly. My friend had a dance project she had to do where she had to choreograph her own dance and she wanted me to be her partner. She picked this song and after having to deal with constantly listening to this song as we practiced, I just started to slightly enjoy it again. But now that it's over it'll probably go back to the way it was before.

~ Lady Gaga – Million Reasons and John Legend – Love Me Now both jumped much less than I thought they would. Although I don't care about the latter as much, it's still a really sweet song that easily surpasses some of the songs that are ranked above it.

~ The big drop from Andy Grammer – Fresh Eyes was very much needed and is very appreciated. Now let's get it out of the countdown.

~ I have to say, I am very pleased by these exits. This Is What You Came For was long overdue and easily one of the most overrated songs of the year. But what I actually believe was the most overrated song of the year has left as well, and that song is Twenty One Pilots – Stressed Out. I'll say this: It's about damn time! We will leave it at that.

~ I'm sure anyone that has been on social media within the past day knows about Camila Cabello's departure from Fifth Harmony. These girls have been going strong for the past few years and it is unfortunate that one member decided to leave the group. But honestly I kind of did see this coming. Camila has been doing quite a few projects outside of Fifth Harmony. So seeing her want to go solo did not surprise me that much. We'll see if the remaining four will able to continue on without her.

~ The Hit 45 Chart is currently being worked on and will be out hopefully today or tomorrow.

New Entrants
~ First up, we have Charli XCX making a "long-awaited" return with After The Afterparty. Honestly, I still have not fully grown back into Boom Clap. That's how sick of that song I was. I feel like After The Afterparty is trying way too hard to be an infectious and catchy song. Sure, it can be catchy at times. But it can also be pretty annoying at times. I do not like her voice very much. As of right now, I'm pretty split on this song. I cannot see myself growing into this and I can predict right now that I will be putting this song in red very soon.

~ Next, James Arthur makes his debut with Say You Won't Let Go. I feel as though this guy is a lot like James Bay. Same style of music, same kind of voice. Say You Won't Let Go is a unique song. Like Let It Go by James Bay, it may not be particularly interesting at first listen. But with time, this song gets better. After all the raging pop music we have here, it's nice to have calm song like this every now and then. Overall, I'm really enjoying this song and I hope it does well.

~ Also making a return, John Legend returns with Love Me Now. I did not exactly find this song interesting at first few listens. But with time and more listens, it has grown on me a decent amount. It managed to barely cross the border into green for this week. That being said, it can easily change back to blue very soon. But I do like the message to this song and I love the lyrical content. It's nice to have a song that emits love after the painful year we've had that is 2016.

~ With the highest debut of the week, Lady Gaga debuts with the second single off of Joanne. It is called Million Reasons. First off, MUCH better than the messy flop that went by the name of Perfect Illusion. I did question the fact that this is a slow ballad since we're not exactly used to those done by Lady Gaga. But she worked with it and handled it really well. She still has that amazing voice I knew she had and I love the lyrical content. Me personally, this is my favorite debut this week and I wish it well on this countdown.

~ Guys My Age is a little too weird for my liking. I would like I Don't Wanna Live Forever a little bit more if we didn't get that falsetto from Zayn. I really don't think he sounds that good. ~ I do find Shout Out To My Ex and In My Mind both to be pretty catchy. I am enjoying them and hopefully, they both get a chance to be on the Weekend Countdown.

~ Why Love On The Brain even exists is beyond me. I genuinely hate this song. I'm ready to say that it's worse than Work. Please leave Hit-Bound soon and do NOT debut on the countdown.

Million Blurbs

~ I really don't appreciate Hailee Steinfeld & Grey/Zedd – Starving being at #2. While I do like this song, I really don't think it's #1 worthy. That would just be overrating it big time, even though it's already being ranked way too high at #2.

~ Alessia Cara – Scars To Your Beautiful made a pretty sudden jump into the Top 5 this week and I'm very happy about that. I still believe that this is her best single so far and thankfully, Hits 1 feels the same way. Everyone know that in the words of Alessia Cara, "You are beautiful just the way you are." :)

~ Also in the Top 5, we have Niall Horan – This Town. While I am getting pretty bored of this song, it is still a sweet song like Scars To Your Beautiful. Obviously like Zayn Malik – Pillowtalk, This Town will probably be hangin' around in the Top 5 for a long time. So be prepared for that.

~ As far as our Top 20 entrants go, Greenlight and All Time Low made nice jumps back in. But we also have Train – Play That Song jumping to #14 this week. This song is actually pretty high on the iTunes Top Songs chart and I'm pretty impressed. Maybe this song will be the next big hit for Train. We will see.

~ DJ Snake/Justin Bieber – Let Me Love You made a very uncalled for drop out of not only the Top 5, but the Top 10 as well all the way down to #19. Very uncalled for, very unnecessary, and I am not happy about that.

~ DNCE – Body Moves continues to drop as it has down fallen to #37. I thought that this could possibly be the next Cake By The Ocean. I really thought it had the potential. I guess I was wrong. Oh well.

~ With the exits, I'm very pleased to see Dangerous Woman and Perfect Illusion made their departures. Bacon was well overdue as well for a song that really didn't make it big. The only one that kind of made me a little sad was We Don't Talk Anymore. But that song was here for a really long time and I'm glad. I definitely enjoyed this song quite a bit. And of course this is the first week in I don't know how long that we have not had a song by Selena Gomez on the countdown. Quite an impressive run, Selena. Well done.

~ Billboard did release their official Hot 100 of 2016 this past week. I'm going to try my very hardest to do a review for it. I wanted to do one last year, but I just never got around to it. I'm hoping that this year will be different.

~ I'd like to make the announcement that this week, December 10, 2016, is the official cut-off week for songs to make my Top 45 Songs of 2016.
