Camila Cabello (1) – Week Of December 16, 2017

As far as Year-End posts go, I plan to get my Year In Review post out this week. Next week, I should have my Top 45 Songs of 2017 out and maybe my review of Hits 1's Top 45 of 2017. If not, then that'll be the week after as well as my review of the Billboard Hot 100 of the year. It seems like a lot as all of these posts take a large amount of time to put together. But one way or another, I will have them all for you guys. Before we get to this week's Fresh 45, here are the songs we're saying goodbye to this week.

New Entrants
~ First up we have Symon, who I believe is one of the hosts from Hits 1 in Hollywood. She debuts this week with Lonely Girl. I can appreciate the song for what it is, but it's really nothing special. It's definitely better than her previous song, Say. But other than that, this song doesn't stand out very much. It's okay at the moment.

~ Next we have Macklemore/Kesha – Good Old Days, the next single after Glorious. I thought it would be difficult for Macklemore to top Glorious. But sure enough, Good Old Days is at about the same height. They're two totally different songs, but they're each amazing in their own ways. Everything about this new song is fantastic. I love Macklemore's verses and I think Kesha sounds great in the chorus. The lyrical content is fantastic as it's essentially about looking back on your life remembering the good old days. It's a well-written and well-produced track. It's one of the best things we have at the moment along with its predecessor. Here's to hoping it can do as well as Glorious.

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list.

  • AJR/Rivers Cuomo – Sober Up
  • Bruno Mars – Chunky
  • Louis Tomlinson – Miss You
  • Clean Bandit/Julia Michaels – I Miss You
  • All Time Low – Last Young Renegade (DEBUT)
  • Taylor Swift/Ed Sheeran/Future – End Game
  • Walk The Moon – One Foot
  • Wolves – Animal
  • Sofi Tukker – Best Friend
  • Liam Payne – Bedroom Floor
  • P!nk – Beautiful Trauma
  • Fall Out Boy – Hold Me Tight Or Don't
  • Spencer – Whatever
  • Imagine Dragons – Whatever It Takes

~ Last Young Renegade is definitely the All Time Low I fell in love with. I'm sure this will make its debut at some point. I'll be waiting.

Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Walk The Moon – One Foot
2. Imagine Dragons – Whatever It Takes
3. Clean Bandit/Julia Michaels – I Miss You
4. Sofi Tukker – Best Friend
5. All Time Low – Last Young Renegade

Good Old Blurbs
~ It's no shock to see Camila Cabello at the top given how big Havana has gotten. I'm fine with this as it is actually a pretty good song. The only thing I don't like about it is Young Thug's verse, but thankfully Hits 1 plays the edited version. I'm fine with this at the top for now, but I would much prefer to see Perfect at #1 soon.

~ I'm a little surprised by how well Love So Soft has done given that it's not exactly a massive hit. I'll admit that the song isn't the worst thing ever. I've heard the whole song several times this past week and it's not as bad as I thought. But the chorus is still not very enjoyable. Clarkson can do better.

~ Bebe Rexha/Florida Georgia Line – Meant To Be seems to be doing pretty well at the moment. While it's one many are not a fan of, I enjoy the song for what it is and I personally think it's a nice collab. I'm glad it's getting some recognition.

~ Zayn/Sia – Dusk Till Dawn made quite an unexpected jump into the Top 20 this week. I'm surprised by this given that the song isn't a massive hit at the moment. I'm glad Hits 1 can agree that it's a good song and much better than Still Got Time. I hope this one sticks around longer.

~ P!nk – What About Us and Macklemore/Skylar Grey – Glorious both took some big drops out of the Top 20 from the Top 10. I'm hoping both of them can stay for a little while longer similar to songs like StayAttention, and Lights Down Low.

~ This week we lost two great songs. Save Me A Place was probably the best underground song Hits 1 picked up on this year. I've never heard anything like it and I now want to keep up with Mono Mind if they release anything in the future. Something Just Like This was another great song that I'm glad was able to reach #1. While some may think of this song as nothing more than a rehash of Roses, I think of it as one of the best songs of the year. You both will be missed.

  6. Heard this song while just driving, so I can safely assume that it’s a new Hit-Bound entrant:

River by Eminem featuring Ed Sheeran

(Expect this to debut in the Top 20 on the next Billboard chart btw)

    2. I do like Castle On The Hill, but I don't think it's as good as SoY or Galway Girl tho.

And IFIC was a boring waste of talent that got old fast for me. Also the mid-year rankdown on Pulse, where it won. Hopefully it doesn't win the year end rankdown this time.

  24. So, the Year-End Countdown is tomorrow! Who's excited?! :D It'll be very interesting to see what makes the top - I have a feeling that Shape Of You, Something Just Like This and maybe Closer will be in the Top 5.

But the question is, which countdown will they be airing at 6 AM tomorrow? Because last year they showed the Year-End one first.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Also, fun fact - if Shape Of You does end up being the #1, this would be the third year in a row where the #1 song would be a song that starts with the letter "S" (Shut Up and Dance in 2015, then Stressed Out in 2016).

      Delete
    2. The actual countdown will be airing at 6 AM tomorrow.

      -Remy

    3. Scott: Same applies for SJLT. Also, the 12/23 countdown is airing tomorrow first.

Quick question: Should I review the Year End? Because I haven’t posted anything in a while and I am going to my mom’s dad’s house for a Christmas Eve night.

      Delete
    4. And, at 12:00 AM PDT, the countdown is airing, thus it’s airing three hours earlier. Probably because they have Year End countdowns to air and they’re doing performances for Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, etc.

    5. Unfortunately, I'll be working through the first round of the Year-End, but there'll be plenty of reruns for it so I'm not too concerned.

    2. I can say that I like it right now. Kind of a dark subject matter, and I don't know if it'll stick with me in the long run, but given how bad the album's been received, I'll take this.

  30. Well I'll say this, Eminem's new album sucked.

    1. Yeah, I heard. Saw some takes about it from some YouTube critics. One YouTube music reviewer I recently watched put this in his Top 10 Worst Albums of 2017.

BTW, what are your thoughts on River?

    2. Wasn't a big fan of it, especially since Ed and Em clash in the song.

    1. Unfortunately, it's just too late to make this Year-End countdown. But it's sure to be high on next year's, or it could be like Hello in coming just short of the Top 10, but we have another year before we worry about any of that.

  35. So, iTunes update:

    - Remember that mashup of Thunder alongside Young, Dumb and Broke by Khalid that was performed at the American Music Awards? Now there's a full-fledged studio version that's right near the Top 10.
    - Also, How Long is right near that region as well, because as Spyder just said, he performed it on the finale of The Voice. I'd surely like to see it become a hit. Encore!

  36. So now we have 5 Ed Sheeran songs on the countdown (Technically, four but whatever)? XD

    3. Yeah, and most recently, T3chJ3t slammed this song like wildfire. Not thrilled about seeing it being put on their worst lists.

    4. Well, T3chJ3t had been going on about it for most of the second half of the year, and then as he was about to give it the final thrashing, he realized that he's not the person to be talking about said matter. But there are two reviewers who are, and go above and beyond by sharing their own stories:

    2. It's too bad the song was never released as a real single, I thought for sure that it would be after it was performed on SNL along with the title track before that debuted on the Hot 100 over a year ago.

But hopefully this new single will make up for it!

    1. Well see, it's not always about the amount of weeks it spent at #1. Stay did spend a very long time in the Top 10, which is probably a huge factor in why this was ranked higher.

    2. I also realized that half the Top 10 are songs that start with the letter "S", and two of them have one word in their name.
