New Entrants
~ Our lone new entrant comes from Ariana Grande with the assistance of Future on the track Everyday. I believe that Ariana has hit a new peak of mediocreness*. This is nothing we haven't heard before. Of course she has to bring in a new mystery man on the chorus similar to Problem and Focus, making this the Problem 3.0. The lyrical content seems very pointless to me. And honestly, I do not like that part after the second and third chorus when she does the "la-la-la-la-la-la...." Just not a fan of her voice at that moment. Ariana is definitely a good singer. However, the mediocre production and lyrical content killed her on this track. Here's to hoping this does not become a hit.

So, if I'm not mistaken, Starving is the first song to be in orange that was in green formerly since... This Is What You Came For, I think (that one was very briefly in green). Huh.
ReplyDeleteI believe that is correct. As of right now, I believe Charli XCX - Boom Clap is the only song to have been in both purple and orange within its time on the countdown.
DeleteI don't even accept Starving in orange, but Good Time, Good Life is in green.
DeleteThat's true because in his opinion, Boom Clap was in purple for its 3rd week and then orange for its last 3 weeks.
DeleteYou forgot to put a last week position for Unsteady and your "crap" songs in your top 20 review should be -1 as the worst song on the countdown. I don't even know how you grew out of Starving that fast. Of course Overwhelming is in your Hit-Bound top 5 picks because it's Jon Bellion (duh), and I'm surprised Green Light is in red, I think you're the only one here that doesn't like that song. My mom also doesn't like that song.
ReplyDelete- Oops. Too lazy to fix it though.
Delete- I don't do -1. I added 6 as a bonus so that the total score could increase a little bit. Having a -1 just balances it out again and it's as if it's just 0 to 5.
- Let's just say Starving should not still be this high.
- I'm planning on giving a review for Green Light sometime in the next few weeks. Ideally I'd like to wait until it debuts. But that might change.
#50Friday news (chart will be up before noon EST tomorrow):
ReplyDelete-0 exits
-1 debut, permanently raising the chart to 50 songs.
-1 top 5 entrant
-1 top 10 entrant
-6 drops of at least 7 spots (that's a large drop for my chart lol)
-Obvious biggest jump
Wait a minute.....
ReplyDeleteWhy is That's What I Like in orange?
You know, Mars is one of my Mom's favorite pop singers.
I think it's safe to say that over half the reason he hates it - and the title track for that matter - is because he's still too jaded by how overplayed Uptown Funk was to appreciate Bruno Mars right about now.
DeleteOr he'd rather have Bruno's older stuff like Just The Way You Are and Grenade, because he thinks Bruno has become some wannabe rapper doing way too many throwback type songs. Honestly, I don't see it.
DeleteWell the fact that he approved both of those comments I'd say is a sign that both of those are a factor.
Delete29. Treat You Better
ReplyDeleteSeriously, why is this still in the top 30?
Maybe, this song won't leave until it lasts a full year.

ReplyDeleteOn a different note, I listened through The Chainsmokers' debut album, Memories… Do Not Open. And…
ReplyDeleteI'm not overly impressed by it. Aside from Something Just Like This, I don't know if any of this will stick with me in the long run. Maybe I'll give it another listen though.
In my personal opinion it's garbage. The Chainsmokers are garbage. But...... It's very okay if any of you all like them
DeleteBy the way Adrian, the "mystery man" in the chorus of Everyday is Future. And the "mystery man" in Problem was Big Sean.
ReplyDeleteI think we all knew that.
DeleteTouch also didn't debut the countdown this week. That's also bad.
ReplyDeleteIt actually left Hit-Bound this week. :(
DeleteLittle Mix isn't American so I guess Touch had to leave.
DeleteWell, look at Shape of You. 9 weeks at the top and Sheeran isn't American. And Hello wasn't from an American artist and it spent 12 weeks at #1.
DeleteK
DeleteWhen I say the American charts, I'm talking about the Hot 100. Little Mix cannot get a top 40 hit because their record label doesn't know how to sell these girls over here, and because people think No Harmony is better, which is total bullshit.
DeleteShape Of You must leave the #1 spot ASAP!
DeleteNo it doesn't.
DeleteThat's right! I'd rather have a different song at #1.
Deletehttp://www.kworb.net/airadio/
ReplyDeleteHarry Styles newest single debuts on the radio charts at #128.
Pearl Jam, Journey, Tupac Shakur and Joan Baez were inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame.
ReplyDeleteBut Tupac isn't a rock and roll artist...?
DeleteNeither is Michal Jackson, and he's was inducted years ago. The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame isn't just for rock bands/artists, they've had bands and artists of different genres inducted before.

#1 Recommendation for Hits 1:
ReplyDeleteLil Wayne/Various Artists - Sucker For Pain
That was from like last summer.
DeleteYou do understand that song left the charts months ago, right?
DeleteThat's so 2016.
DeleteI loved it though.
DeleteCountdown post out!
ReplyDelete-The picture I used is Ed Sheeran with a cat because I love cats.

-Top 20 reviews for this week in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017! Spoiler, scores for the first three years are 80, 83, and 83.
-A most missed song from 2012
-A "guess the song"
Guess The Song:
ReplyDelete1. I debuted and left the weekend countdown during November.
2. The year I debuted was before the year I left the countdown.
Counting Stars
DeleteEither that, Stressed Out or Unsteady.
DeleteYeah, and the 3rd hint was that it left in 2014.
DeleteStressed Out & Unsteady didn't leave or debut in November.
DeleteHeh, whoops. Didn't see the "November" part when I mentioned those.
DeleteBut it debuted and left in the same month in different years.
DeleteSo here's the Top 10 on iTunes currently:
ReplyDelete1. Sign Of The Times
2. That's What I Like
3. Something Just Like This
4. Body Like A Back Road (Go away!!!)
5. Shape Of You
6. Issues (discount)
7. Rockabye (discount)
8. HUMBLE. (oooooooh…)
9. Say You Won't Let Go (dang!)
10. Stay
Interesting, honestly.
So I guess either Sign Of The Times (I haven't listened to it yet) will debut in the top 10/20, or HUMBLE. I want it to be HUMBLE really bad.
DeleteQuick question, do you guys want me to do a top 50 #1 hits of the 2000s, or review every #1 from Smooth, to Empire State Of Mind.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should review every #1 song from Smooth to Empire State Of Mind.
ReplyDeleteWell, I also want to have the others opinion on what I should do as well.
DeleteI think you should do a top 50 because it's more suspenseful.
DeleteYeah, but remember when I half-assed my top 10 bets of 2016, I feel that by doing a top 50, (By the way if I do a top 50, I'm splitting it into two) it'll be much harder to work on and I won't be able to make it sound all that presentable. And besides, you guys already know what my #1 would be.
DeleteSo Adrian, here's a question I have for you: by now some people have seen me - and I'm sure others - call Say You Won't Let Go virtually the same song as Thinking Out Loud. Since it's pretty obvious that song will never be anything but in the Crap tier for you again, what makes Say You Won't Let Go different?
ReplyDeleteSorry Adrian, but I think it's safe to say that That's What I Like will be #1 on the radio charts and the Hot 100 soon.

DeleteI forgot to say this: I heard a metal song on Venus today. No joke.
ReplyDeleteWhat metal song did you hear on Venus?
ReplyDeleteIt was called Born in a Rut by Testament.
DeleteSlide is still on Hits 1 so it'll probably debut next week.
ReplyDeleteIT'S TIME FOR ROUND 4! PLEASE VOTE!

. probably has the Billboard Hot 100 comment awaiting approval so I'll just say right now:
ReplyDeleteGOOD RIDDANCE to Bad and Boujee! I'm not thrilled that it was traded for Body Like A Back Road, though, but we also traded IDWLF and interchangeable Drake for Rockabye and Kendrick. The latter I'm not totally into just yet but it could grow on me, while the former is definitely a welcome return. Things are definitely looking better.
Here is some more Hot 100 according to the PMB thread:
ReplyDelete11. Mask Off
13. It Ain't Me
16. XO Tour Llif3
17. Say You Won't Let Go (Heh..."R&B".)
34. Look at Me
50. Bad Things (will leave next week)
91. The One (Chainsmokers)
100. Human
#11, 16, and 100: 🔥
DeleteEver since I called it a bland and boring, British R&B piano ballad, that has become the joke of the thread now hasn't it?
DeleteHuman by Rag'N'Bone Man? If so, not bad. I hear that song quite a bit when I'm in my dad's car and he puts on Alt Nation.
DeleteSurprised you didn't include #34. Or maybe #100 was supposed to be #34.
Delete#100 is not siuprising to me. It's continuing to have sales and has made various charts in the UK
DeleteShit. I didn't see #34. And yeah I like Human.
DeleteI also listened to Body Like a Back Road and I like it.

ReplyDeleteDurp and Triff are missing.
ReplyDeleteAnd Trance, Remy, Thatchos, Leah, CountdownRecap, Zack, and many more. I wouldn't include Hi There because he was Parker in another account.
DeleteThat's right! We need Durp, Triff, Trance, Remy, Thatchos, Leah, CountdownRecap, Zack and many more back....
DeleteRIGHT NOW OR ELSE I'M GONNA LOSE IT!
Thatchos actually commented on my new WC thread on Pulse Music Boards.

Yes, I was asked about three songs that currently aren't on the countdown. Foreshadowing?
I get those surveys in my email but I don't feel like replying to them. The only music-related emails I ever read are the weekly news emails from HotNewHipHop and my release radar update from Spotify.
DeleteI remember reading a while ago that on Lil Uzi Vert's upcoming Luv Is Rage 2, he's going to have a rock song from his "rock band". I just forgot to mention. Either way, I can't wait to see what it sounds like and if it'll become a bigger hit.
ReplyDeleteJust wondering, What's your opinion on Santana/Rob Thomas-Smooth?
ReplyDeleteBest rock song of all time, and easily my top 3 favorite songs of all time!
Delete^^^^^^^^^
DeleteQOTD: What differences do you see in 2010's than in 1990/2000's music?
ReplyDeleteLess cohesive genre domination over the course of a decade, more shitty rap/bro-country, less good R&B/pop, the death of rock/alternative in the mainstream, and the rise of social media taking over EVERYTHING!
Delete^^^^^^Streaming is the worst one! BAD&BITCHE DON"T BLONG HERE!

NEW MUSIC ALERT:
ReplyDeleteJAMES BLUNT - BARTENDER
It came out a month ago and he's not that popular. Most people only know him because of "You're Beautiful".
DeleteLikely debuts this week:
ReplyDeleteSign of the Times
Now or Never
Slide
And Good Time, Good Life will sadly not debut. ;(
DeleteGood Time, Good Life sadly has no spins, and they still combined last week's spins and the spins from 3 weeks ago. Weird!
DeleteShape Of You needs to leave the #1 spot. It's been holding at #1 for a long time.
ReplyDeleteEven though I still love that song, I have to agree with you. I'd prefer That's What I Like at #1.
DeleteWell, I wouldn't put it in the same leagues as Hello and Shut Up and Dance, but I wouldn't be mad if it makes 12 weeks at the top.
DeleteI think the record for consecutive weeks at #1 on the countdown was Shake It Off with 11 - All About That Bass' two weeks at #1 sandwiched Shake It Off's first in between them.
My WC post is out!
ReplyDeleteI'd rather have Million Reasons at #1.
ReplyDeleteFor those of you who are active, remember to vote on my competition! You only have a week. I so far have four out of the fourteen responses so yeah. I think that the questions for most people were hard as the average score so far was just six points.
ReplyDeletehttp://pulsemusic.proboards.com/thread/166757/billboard-hot-100-04-2017
ReplyDeleteShape Of You lost 100K in it's audience. I think it's safe to say that it has finally peaked on airplay.
New poll on my blog.
ReplyDeleteThe post should be out either tomorrow or Thursday.
http://sxmh1wc.blogspot.com/2017/04/april-8-2017-ed-sheeran-9.html
ReplyDeleteMy countdown post is out.
Well guys, if you weren't sure before, you will be now when I say this. Some of you may have already seen it on Pulse Music Board, but here it is. (space gap for spoiler)
ReplyDeleteShape Of You has finally peaked in airplay. Peak audience of 247.2. Looks like it's not passing Uptown Funk's 248.9. And with how much That's What I Like has on it, looks like it's closing in on that #1 spot, unless it ends up being 7 Years all over again.
The remix for Hymn for the Weekend is annoying. And I only hate that song now because of f**king overplay.
ReplyDeleteYeah I only like the original.
DeleteOverplay is not a generaally good reason to hate a song over.
DeleteThere is no right or wrong answer to that Miles!
DeleteYes it is, and overplay should be the overall deciding factor to hate a song.
Delete*Should not.
DeleteSeriously, it's not the end of the world if someone hates a song by overplay! There seriously should be no right or wrong answer to this. What I believe has no right or wrong answer. What you believe also has no right or wrong answer, but it is NOT acceptable to rant on my thoughts because it's what you believe.
DeleteThe only one ranting is you. Just because a song is on the radio every day, it does not make it a bad song on that merit alone. Songs should be judged by what's in it, the vocals, production, lyrics, and the tone the song is trying to set. The only one to blame because of the overplay is the radio DJ's and radio stations that play the same type of song nonstop.
DeleteWhat I was trying to say by "What you believe also has no right or wrong answer" was that I respect your opinion on if a song should be hated by overplay. But you're the one who's not respecting MY opinion on this. It's embarrasing enough that there are still people here that don't know how to respect an opinion, but it's even more embarrasing that these people are legal adults.
DeleteAll I'm saying is saying a song is bad because of overplay alone is a fucking stupid reason. And would it kill you to stop fucking bringing up respect of opinion and stop defending everyone and let them defend themselves?
DeleteGuys, there is nothing wrong with hating a song because of overplay. It's okay to hate a song just because of overplay. Even I have used to like songs such as Scars to Your Beautiful and Bad Things, and just because they get played like a billion times on my local radio station just makes me want to hate it. And yes, Miles, you've hated songs such as Treat You Better, Unsteady, and Cheap Thrills all because of overplay. And yes, you can hate songs because of overplay, and overplay should be considered a factor in grading songs just because.
DeleteI do not hate Treat You Better because of overplay at all, I used to like it begrudgingly, until the album finally dropped and saw that both this song, the album, and Shawn Mendes really do suck.
DeleteUnsteady falls in the same category, until I figured it was a boring, sloppily produced track, with a trap percussion over a slow, plotting beat. The only good thing was the lyrical content, but even that seems somewhat vague.
Here's the problem with Cheap Thrills. The annoying child in the chorus! And I mostly talk about the original version because it doesn't have Sean Paul, the one with Sean Paul is the one I like, even if the whole down tempo tropical house vibe has been done to death in the past year or so.
Bad Things was bad to begin with, especially since it was a generic, bland white rapper with a shitty ass vocalist teaming up to make some slow, plotting rap/R&B mix this side of Mariah's hip-hop era, which is the worst thing ever.
The message for Scars To Your Beautiful may be good, but my God that percussion over melody is sickening!
If the whole overplay critique doesn't make sense to you guys yet, let me put it to you this way: when the Year-End Hot 100 for 2015 dropped, what was your reaction to seeing Uptown Funk at #1 like we all knew it would be? Do you think it didn't deserve it? If so, your reasoning for that was because you never cared for the song (much) in the first place. Not only that, but when the Decade-End Hot 100 drops in December 2019 (which I'm sure some of you have seen the predictions for on Pulse Music Boards), it's all but guaranteed to be #2 behind Party Rock Anthem (Closer will probably be #3, it would have to get extremely lucky to pass it at the rate it's dropping). What will your reaction be when THAT happens?
DeleteI mean, can you really justify saying that an otherwise excellent song doesn't deserve to be the #1 song of the year - and among the highest honors of the entire decade - because of something that just about every song that hits #1 goes through? If your answer to that question is yes, then that's just sad. I mean, you can get tired of a song, sure, but whether you do or not, don't pretend that it doesn't deserve credit.
I think that makes a good case for what me and Miles are trying to express.
^^^This is the best argument so far. And before you start going off on me, yes I'll admit to being a victim of hating a song solely because of overplay. But with time, I've grown to realize that it's not really a legitimate reason to flat out hate a song. At least not on its own. That's why I've tried to be careful lately about what songs I say I hate and I think to myself, "Do I hate this because it's a bad song or because it's been overplayed?" If the former, then that's a legitimate reason.
DeleteThe things I've said about Uptown Funk, Shut Up and Dance, Radioactive, Demons, etc. I'm not proud of. None of them are bad songs. Sure, they were overplayed and I got pretty tired of them. But deep down, they're still good songs and deserve credit. Overplay on its own should not make you flat out hate a song.
Musician J. Geils of the J, Geils band, famous for their hit Centerfold just died.

DeleteThank you Hits 1 for getting two of the most f**king pieces of trash out of here! (the latter two)
DeleteBut of course Still Got Time had to be available for vote. Ugh.
Guess what #12 on the Billboard Bubbling Under is this week?
ReplyDeleteNo one wants to know, because some of us are sick of you raving about crap.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteThere He Go by Kodak Black (idk)
DeleteStop being a fucking white knight and defending everyone then maybe I'd actually be nice.
DeleteYeah Lukas, it's There He Go. Right when I thought it was dead, the album release gave it more recognition.
DeleteI apologize if I offended anyone here today. I really just want everyone's opinions to be safe here and I don't think it's fair to hate on anyone's opinions. I mean...everyone here is equal, right? I'm sorry if I was mean today, but I just can't take this. I tried to back away from all these comment section issues, but I just couldn't. You know, most of us came here because all our parents (except if you're Scott or Montavis) bought cars that had SiriusXM with it and in that car you find a perfect pop station with a weekly countdown...that means we all have a shared liking for music and this countdown, meaning that this was a place to talk about exactly that. This wasn't a place to be mean. This wasn't a place to hate on people's opinions. This wasn't a place that was supposed to have comment moderation. But this was a place to discuss music and the countdown that we all love as well as some other stuff. The exact reason why sites like Pulse Music Boards have rules is to be a safe place. I did not come to this blog to be mean and I did not want to be mean here. I do and will respect everyone's opinion here. So why not just be nice? It's without a doubt better than being mean.
ReplyDeleteI understand if this was too long or I'm saying this all the time. I just want this to be a better place for all of us and I'm sure you do too. I honestly don't want this comment to get lost in the sea of rants about this comment section. I would like if this could get a reply discussing this, but please make it nice. If you read this entirely, thank you. That means a lot to me. :)
From your fellow blogger and commenter, ..
So I definitely heard Green Light a couple times in recent days and yet it doesn't sound like it's debuting this weekend. Darn it.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to Slide debuting though.
My 70k page view special is out!
ReplyDeleteSo... Remember how I said that I wasn't wild about The Chainsmokers' debut album? Wanna see another critic actually give it an in-depth take? And see a bunch of agreeing comments too? Here you go. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yQmTP4ulkE
