The Chainsmokers (2) – Week Of June 17, 2017

I can't say there's a whole lot that went on this weekend. However, it was Father's Day weekend. So Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there that may be reading this. I spent all day Saturday and Sunday out and about, which is why it took me a while to get to approve your guys' comments. Just thought I should let you know. And I apologize for not having this post out yesterday. That was just pure laziness. No songs leaving the countdown this week. So let's get right into it!

New Entrants
~ Oh would you look at that? No new entrants for the second week in a row. How fun. But considering that new entrant reviews are what take me the longest when making these posts, it actually helps me get this post out faster if there are no songs.

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list:

  • Noah Cyrus – Stay Together
  • Paramore – Hard Times
  • Bruno Mars – Versace On The Floor
  • Julia Michaels – Uh Huh
  • Ed Sheeran – Galway Girl (DEBUT)
  • Macklemore/Skylar Grey – Glorious (DEBUT)
  • Imagine Dragons – Thunder
  • Katy Perry/Nicki Minaj – Swish Swish
  • Carly Rae Jepsen – Cut To The Feeling
  • All Time Low – Good Times
  • Andy Grammer – Give Love (DEBUT)
  • Camila Cabello – Crying In The Club
  • Shawn Hook/Vanessa Hudgens – Reminding Me
  • Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee/Justin Bieber – Despacito (DEBUT)

~ Galway Girl has this very interesting folk vibe to it that I'm really digging. It fits very nicely with Ed Sheeran's voice and it's very unique in my opinion. I'm looking to seeing how this one does. Macklemore is back after the amazing year he had in 2013 with Ryan Lewis. He's here with Skylar Grey on the track Glorious. I would say the song title speaks for the song itself. It's simply a glorious track. Macklemore does a very nice job on the verses and Skylar Grey simply steals the show with that chorus. Fantastic song.

~ Give Love is on the borderline between good and just decent. The chorus is catchy and all. But it just feels like another Andy Grammer that'll come and go similar to Good To Be Alive. There hasn't been very much of a memorable factor in his music lately. Finally, we have the long-awaited debut of Despacito. In my opinion, it's the better of the two big collabs with Justin. I'll speak more about it when it debuts, which will hopefully be soon considering that this song is already seriously late to the party.

~ We lost three songs this week: Wicked, Overwhelming, and Good Time Good Life. While all three songs are good, the only one I really cared for was Overwhelming. It would've been nice to see Jon Bellion have another hit. Oh well. Maybe another day.

Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. TIE: Carly Rae Jepsen – Cut To The Feeling
1. TIE: Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee/Justin Bieber – Despacito
3. Macklemore/Skylar Grey – Glorious
4. Katy Perry/Nicki Minaj – Swish Swish
5. Shawn Hook/Vanessa Hudgens – Reminding Me

I'm The Blurb
~ I'm very happy to see Something Just Like This manage to snag that #1 spot for a second week. Hopefully it can stay there a little longer. Considering that it's The Chainsmokers and all, I don't think it should have that much of a problem.

~ We have one new Top 10 entrant this week and that is Lady Gaga – The Cure. I'm very happy about this and hopefully it can stay there for a while and not just drop right back out. I mean, it got Issues out of the Top 10, which makes it even better.

~ Holding their spots at #'s 16 and 17, we have Now Or Never and That's What I Like. I've pretty much already gotten used to That's What I Like being here and being an annoyance. But for some reason, Now Or Never continues to aggravate me. That song is just really boring and underwhelming. It just goes to show that this song is really only here because hey, it's Halsey. It doesn't matter that she shows zero talent in this song. It just matters because it's her. And what annoys me is that it's actually worthy of being a Top 20 hit. I can't say her album is something I'll be enjoying if every track sounds similar to this.

~ Speaking of zero talent, we have Bad Liar holding at #19. As you can see, this song is now the worst song on the countdown. It was a serious competition and songs like Issues and Break My Heart came close. But it came down to Bad Liar and Weak. It's tough between these two songs. But I give Weak credit because it actually has stuff going on (even though it doesn't sound good). Also, I looked at the reviews on iTunes for Bad Liar and it has a large amount of negative reviews from some of her fans saying it's a huge step down from Stars Dance and Revival, which makes you wonder, "Who the hell is listening to this and making this a Top 20 hit in North America?" Whoever you are, just stop. If this does better than It Ain't Me, I'm gonna be pissed.

~ Miley Cyrus – Malibu jumps into the Top 20 this week shining some light into the darkness created by six songs in particular. Hopefully it continues to jump because this song does get better with each listen.

~ DNCE – Kissing Strangers jumps 10 spots this week into the Top 30. A little unexpected if you ask me. I'm not too happy about it, but I can live with it. Just as long as this song doesn't stay longer than it should.

~ I think Aaron Carter – Sooner Or Later has hit a new peak this week at #38. It's honestly sad that this song is doing this poorly. It is a solid track that deserves more recognition than this. We have a load of crap in the Top 20 and a well-produced track like this down at #38. Something's wrong here. Hits 1, get it together and fix this.

~ Fitz & The Tantrums – HandClap drops out of the Top 30 this week to #39. Seems like this song is starting to lose its steam. It's been here for a really long time so I am quite impressed and satisfied with its countdown run. At least it wasn't underrated like just about all their music.

There really wasn't much going on this week. Pretty much to the point where I don't know what to put for this introduction. So instead I'll just let you guys go right into the countdown. No songs leaving the countdown this week. So let's get right into it!

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list.

  • All Time Low – Good Times
  • Jon Bellion – Overwhelming
  • Carly Rae Jepsen – Cut To The Feeling
  • Camila Cabello – Crying In The Club
  • Erin Bowman – Good Time, Good Life
  • Bruno Mars – Versace On The Floor
  • Paramore – Hard Times
  • Katy Perry/Nicki Minaj – Swish Swish
  • Shawn Hook/Vanessa Hudgens – Reminding Me
  • Julia Michaels – Uh Huh (DEBUT)
  • Imagine Dragons – Thunder
  • Mansionz/G-Eazy – Wicked
  • Noah Cyrus – Stay Together

~ Hooray. Julia Michaels debuts with the follow-up single to Issues, Uh Huh. And guess what? It's even worse! That chorus is probably the cringiest thing I've listened to in a long time. Let me just be straight up right now. Her voice sucks. It legitimately SUCKS!!!! It's so scratchy and just all in all unappealing and unattractive. I can't help but cringe every time I hear the scratchy "Uh Huh!" What also makes this worse than Issues is that it doesn't even have somewhat of a good meaning. I understand why people would like the meaning to Issues because let's face it, everyone has their own issues. But Uh Huh seems like some kind of unattractive sex song that is not relatable, not appealing, not fun, and just not a good song. If I'm being honest, it's a very strange follow-up to Issues. I'll cut it off here, but I will not take it too kindly if this song debuts the countdown.

~ The only good thing that came out of Uh Huh debuting was the departure of Fall Out Boy – Young and Menace. I'm very happy to see this song leave is it was not good at all and a disappointment to Fall Out Boy's discography. Hopefully it's gone for good similar to Lorde – Green Light.

There's Nothing Blurbin' Me Back
~ I'm not too thrilled about the return of Stay to #1. I much prefer There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back and Something Just Like This. Hopefully one of these two songs can regain the #1 spot ideally next week. But you never know how long songs like Stay can remain at #1.

~ We have two entries in the Top 10 this week. Panic! At The Disco – L.A. Devotee returns after a little while of just chillin' in the #11 - #20 area. I'm fine with that one. However, I'm not necessarily okay with AJR – Weak having the Biggest Jump of the Week up to #10. This song isn't even worse being in the Top 20, let alone the Top 10.

~ I'm also not okay with Selena Gomez – Bad Liar being in the Top 20. Of course, because this is a new Selena Gomez song, it'll probably stay obnoxiously long like Hands To Myself. One can only hope it can go more towards the path of Good For You or Kill Em With Kindness where it doesn't actually become a huge hit.

~ Yet while we're getting songs like Bad Liar in the Top 20, Miley Cyrus – Malibu isn't moving as much as I would like it too. This is a song that's more deserving of being in the Top 20. Hopefully it can get there soon.

~ It seems as though the life of Maroon 5 – Cold is beginning to die out. However, this hasn't been a song where you could expect what would happen. It's been jumping and dropping quite a bit within the past month or two. Next week, I can see this song either jumping back into the Top 20 or falling out of the Top 30.

~ Zayn/Taylor Swift – I Don't Wanna Live Forever has been hanging around the same three spots for the longest time. I don't know anyone that can possibly still enjoy this song. It's been here much longer than it should've been and it's time to let it go.

~ And just like Calvin Harris/Frank Ocean/Migos – Slide falls out of the Top 30. It's mind-blowing because this is a very well-produced track that ended up not getting as big as the very poorly produced This Is What You Came For. Quite sad if you ask me.

~ Hey Violet – Break My Heart barely jumped this week, so that's good. And Body Like A Back Road actually dropped, which is also good. Hopefully both of these songs end up flopping on here and will leave soon.

~ I'm still working on getting some posts out regarding America's Got Talent. At the same time, I'm also working on all my Hit 45 Chart posts that I'm behind on. So again, bear with me on these things. They'll get done eventually.

New Entrants
~ Selena Gomez has officially proven that she sucks as a solo artist. Other than Come & Get It, Slow Down, and Me & The Rhythm, just about all her solo music sucks. Mostly because she keeps the same format. Bad Liar is pretty much Hands To Myself 2.0. The song is utter nothingness. The production is extremely underwhelming to the point where it's almost not even there. And here we go again with the mumbling/whispery vocals Selena Gomez delivers. I honestly don't know why she keeps doing this. It sounds awful. It is the farthest thing from sexy and the biggest turn off ever. I don't know how a song this hollow is actually worthy of being on the radio. At least Hands To Myself had somewhat of a drop in the chorus. Bad Liar doesn't go anywhere from how it starts. It is easily one of Selena Gomez's worst singles, if not her worst. Hopefully this doesn't stay long.

~ Oh god.........Hey Violet are back. I'll admit, the production in Break My Heart is a little better than it is in Guys My Age for the most part. But the drop in the chorus is so damn annoying to the point where I would probably die if I had to listen to this crap on repeat. The other components of the song aren't as bad. But there really isn't any positive feedback I can give. Everything else is just flat out mediocre at best. I gave this group a second chance and they have yet again failed to show me that they're at least a little talented. If you haven't heard this song, I highly recommend you skip it. I'm just trying to save your ears.

~ We have the return of Sam Hunt with a popular song within the country genre that seems to be getting 90% negative reviews, Body Like A Back Road. Let me just start off by saying I don't like this song. However, I can understand why someone may think it's a catchy song to sing along to. That chorus can get stuck in your head. But that's really the only thing I can give this song. Everything else about it is just dumb. The lyrical content is ridiculously stupid as he's comparing a girl's body to a street saying he knows every curve like the back of his hand. Overall, I think this song is stupid. It's an embarrassment to the country genre and it's a little disappointing that it happens to be one of the bigger hits. It just goes to show the kind of music people listen to.

~ Next we have Hailee Steinfeld replacing herself from At My Best to Most Girls. First off, it's very refreshing to hear something from her that's not Starving. Most Girls kind of falls in between the mediocre Starving and the really good Love Myself and Rock Bottom. This song is good, although it really doesn't have any amazing factor with it. It's green right now but it can easily turn blue. It's a good song, but not one that's going to last very long with me.

~ Finally we have the best debut of the week, Ocean Park Standoff – Good News. We're at a point in time right now where the news isn't exactly filled with good things (and I'll blame our Commander in Chief for that). So it's nice to have this song around saying that we need some good news because the world has gone crazy. I think the production and instrumentation. The vocals are good too. All in all, it's a good song from an underground band and I hope this does well.

  • Fall Out Boy – Young and Menace
  • Jon Bellion – Overwhelming
  • Carly Rae Jepsen – Cut To The Feeling (DEBUT)
  • All Time Low – Good Times (DEBUT)
  • Bruno Mars – Versace On The Floor
  • Erin Bowman – Good Time, Good Life
  • Shawn Hook/Vanessa Hudgens – Reminding Me (DEBUT)

~ Thunder is only a little bit of a step up from Believer. Believer was just straight up bad, and this one is just a little boring. I still miss their Night Visions days. Even some of the singles that never got big like Monster, Battle Cry, and Warriors, which all made it on to the deluxe edition of Smoke & Mirrors, were really good. Good Times is a good, but nowhere near All Time Low's best. I would've preferred if Dirty Laundry became a hit. But oh well. This'll do for now.

~ I have been waiting very impatiently for the debut of Hard Times, the Paramore comeback single. This song is really fun from beginning to end. I love the chorus. Hayley Williams has great vocals. Take notes Fall Out Boy. This is how you do a comeback single. Reminding Me is a very interesting song and I like it because it's not something you hear everyday. Hopefully it can debut at some point.

~ I can guarantee some people still dismiss Carly Rae Jepsen as the annoying Call Me Maybe girl. But if you listened to her last album, E-MO-TION, you'd know that this girl is actually really talented. Cut To The Feeling is a fantastic song and it really shows that she has an amazing voice. I love the vibe and I love the production. Everything about this song is just spot on. Hopefully this can do better than Run Away With Me, which was another one of her fantastic songs that unfortunately flopped and never made the countdown.

Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks

2. Paramore – Hard Times
3. Katy Perry/Nicki Minaj – Swish Swish
4. Jon Bellion – Overwhelming
5. Shawn Hook/Vanessa Hudgens – Reminding Me

Body Like A Back Blurb
~ As far as the exits go, we did lose a lot of good songs. Rockabye didn't deserve to go so early. At My Best lasted only two weeks, which kind of sucks. But oh well, it was flopping anyway. With the departure of Heavydirtysoul, this is the first week in seemingly forever where we do not have a Twenty One Pilots song on the countdown. What a run for these guys. And I Feel It Coming deserved more in my opinion. That song was quite underrated and it will surely be missed. Frankly the only song I'm happy to see go is Still Got Time, which also lasted only two weeks (thankfully).

~ Even though I'm cool with There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back at #1, I do hope Something Just Like This can get a few more weeks in at the top. I think that song is very deserving of it.

~ And Julia Michaels – Issues continues to creep up the countdown to #6 this week. My friends all love this song and have been playing all the time, which frankly has just made me more annoyed with it. So don't surprised if at some point this slips into orange territory. But as long as we have songs like Weak, Bad Liar, and Break My Heart, it probably won't happen anytime soon.

~ There isn't really much else going on in the Top 20. Some songs are moving in and out of the Top 10. Cold and Slide have fell out of the Top 20 and have been replaced by Play That Song and Slow Hands. Other than that, just small moves.

~ Jason Derulo/Nicki Minaj/Ty Dolla $ign – Swalla seems to have dropped out of the Top 30. I still don't see this song lasting very long. But it is a very good song and I hope it can last at least a few more weeks. But Nicki Minaj's songs don't tend to stay very long with the exception of her three David Guetta collabs and Starships.

~ And as expected, DJ Khaled/Justin Bieber/Chance The Rapper – I'm The One took a tumble out of the Top 30 as well. Not very surprising considering this is one of the biggest songs right now, so of course it would flop here. But with this edited version being like two minutes long (probably not even that), they're probably tired of trying to figure out what to do with that extra minute and a half of airtime.

~ Hailee Steinfeld & Grey/Zedd – Starving and Maroon 5 – Don't Wanna Know have both fallen to #44 and #45, respectively. I believe these two should be the next two songs out of the countdown. They've stayed much longer than they should have and it's time for them to go.
