Walk The Moon (11) – Week Of September 26, 2015

This past week was Homecoming week for me and the Homecoming Dance was last night. I did attend and I did have a lot of fun. I spent just about the entire night on the dancefloor. Biggest Jump Of The Week: Tie Between Nick Jonas – Levels and Elle King – Ex's & Oh's (+17)

New Entrants
~ The new Echosmith song, Let's Love, is, in my opinion, bland and uninteresting. It's mediocre at best. That's all I have to say about it.

~ The Hills is the kind of song I like to hear from The Weeknd, a darker kind of song. I think it's really catchy and I would love to see it go far on this countdown.

~ Nico & Vinz are back with That's How You Know. Hits 1 edited out Kid Ink, which I find to be really obnoxious. But that song overall is pretty catchy. I think Nico & Vinz's other two songs, Am I Wrong and In Your Arms, were better. But that's just my opinion.

~ "But my heart don't understand why I got you on my mind!" Ellie Goulding's new single, On My Mind, is hella catchy and I can definitely see it going far on this countdown. I think Love Me Like You Do was better, but I still love On My Mind.

My Heart Don't Understand Why I Got Blurbs On My Mind
~ Jason Derulo – Cheyenne took a Zedd/Jon Bellion – Beautiful Now path leaving the countdown after only three weeks.

~ Shawn Mendes – Stitches has gotten higher than I think the majority of us had expected. Of course, this is a good thing. Maybe we can have a new #1 song within the next few weeks. It would be nice.

~ Stitches hitting #1 is unfortunately not a guarantee as Taylor Swift – Wildest Dreams rose to #3. It's pretty obvious it'll spend at least one week at #1. But then again, we're not 100% sure.

~ Little Mix – Black Magic is now in the Top 10. Nice to see we're getting some fresh new songs in our Top 10 and getting rid of songs like Talking Body.

~ With Selena Gomez – Good For You falling to #45, hopefully it'll be on its way out next week. But I love how it's #45 here and #1 on American Top 40.

~ Phoebe Ryan – Mine shouldn't be dropping. It's definitely one of the better songs on this countdown so I would appreciate if songs like Uma Thurman would drop instead of this one.

~ Dimitri Vegas/Like Mike/Ummet Ozcan – The Hum is still airing throughout the week but not debuting on any weekend shows. I'm losing hope on it debuting anywhere on Hits 1. That's sad because it's a really catchy song.

~ Damn. Adam Lambert – Ghost Town at #12? Thank you voters for voting this awesome song up. :)

~ My homecoming dance last night was super fun. Here are the songs I remember the DJ playing in alphabetical order by artist (they didn't play the songs in this specific order).

  • 5 Seconds Of Summer – She's Kinda Hot
  • Andy Grammer – Honey I'm Good*
  • Ariana Grande/Iggy Azalea – Problem
  • Bea Miller – Fire N Gold
  • Beyonce – Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)*
  • Cali Swag District – Teach Me How To Dougie
  • Clean Bandit/Jess Glynne – Rather Be
  • Cupid – Cupid Shuffle
  • Dillon Francis/DJ Snake – Get Low
  • DJ Snake/Lil Jon – Turn Down For What*
  • Drake – Back To Back
  • Fall Out Boy – Centuries*
  • Fifth Harmony/Kid Ink – Worth It
  • Fetty Wap – Trap Queen
  • Flo Rida/Sage The Gemini/Lookas – GDFR
  • Flo Rida/T-Pain – Low*
  • Jason Derulo – Want To Want Me*
  • Jason Derulo/2 Chainz – Talk Dirty*
  • Jessie J/Ariana Grande/Nicki Minaj – Bang Bang
  • Justin Bieber – What Do You Mean?
  • LMFAO – Party Rock Anthem
  • Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – Downtown
  • Meghan Trainor – Lips Are Movin'
  • Mr. C The Slide Man – Cha Cha Slide
  • One Direction – Drag Me Down
  • Panic! At The Disco – I Write Sins Not Tragedies
  • Pitbull/John Ryan – Fireball
  • Pitbull/Ke$ha – Timber
  • Pitbull/TJR – Don't Stop The Party
  • The Weeknd – Can't Feel My Face*
  • Sam Hunt – House Party
  • Silento – Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)*
  • Steve Aoki/Kid Ink – Delirious (Boneless)
  • Walk The Moon – Shut Up and Dance*
  • + many others that I didn't know
*Was bad at first, may grow back out of me within the next few days.

~ The Hit 45 Chart for this week is out! Will Hey Mama by David Guetta hold at #1 for a second week in a row and a record-breaking 12th week overall?!?! You'll have to hang on to find out!

~ Throwback Pick Of The Week: Kanye West/Chris Martin – Homecoming

~ #1 Recommendation For Hits 1: Sia – Alive

My Top 5 Picks
1. X Ambassadors – Renegades
2. Little Mix – Black Magic
3. Adam Lambert – Ghost Town
4. Ellie Goulding – On My Mind

Biggest DROP!!!... Of The Week: Flo Rida/Robin Thicke/Verdine White – I Don’t Like It, I Love It (–27)

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Pentatonix – Can't Sleep Love (+20)

New Entrants
~ Levels is most definitely not Nick Jonas' best song. But it's good. I really do like it. Just not as much as I loved Jealous and Chains when they first debuted. Hits 1 tends to overplay Nick Jonas songs so they'll probably do the same with this one.

~ My initial reaction to Elle King – Ex's & Oh's was not the best. I wasn't necessarily that into it. However, repeated listens to it this past week allowed me to grow more into the song. Overall, it's catchy. We'll see how well it does. It'll probably just end up being one of those songs that's kind of just there as a filler.

~ Shy Carter – Bring It Back unlike Ex's & Oh's was catchy from the first listen. I'm not necessarily sure if he's a singer or a rapper, or maybe both. But in the end it doesn't matter because this song is hella catchy. So for the meantime, I'm enjoying it.

~ Who remembers the obnoxiously slow Say Something from A Great Big World at the beginning of 2014, I believe? Well these two guys are back this time with Hold Each Other, another song full of meaning about loving who you wish and all that. While I like it because it's a meaningful song, it's also pretty catchy. I would like to see this one do well.

Hit-Bound
~ Echosmith hosted Hit-Bound this week.

~ Carly Rae Jepsen – Run Away With Me unfortunately left Hit-Bound this week. I hope this isn't the end. *sniff*

~ As the weeks go on, I continue to lose interest in Like I'm Gonna Lose You. It may turn red within the next few weeks.

~ Maroon 5 – Feelings is also starting to fade away on me.

~ Icona Pop – Emergency is still here....

~ As usual, here's the Hit-Bound list.

  • Nico & Vinz/Bebe Rexha – That's How You Know
  • Andy Grammer – Good To Be Alive (Hallelujah)
  • Omi – Hula Hoop
  • Meghan Trainor/John Legend – Like I'm Gonna Lose You
  • Echosmith – Let's Love
  • Alessia Cara – Here
  • ZZ Ward – Love 3X
  • The Weeknd – The Hills
  • Robin Thicke/Nicki Minaj – Back Together
  • Becky G – Break A Sweat
  • Pitbull/Jason Derulo/Juicy J – Drive You Crazy
  • Walk The Moon – Different Colors
  • Icona Pop – Emergency
  • Maroon 5 – Feelings
  • Ellie Goulding – On My Mind

Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Ellie Goulding – On My Mind
2. Robin Thicke/Nicki Minaj – Back Together
3. Walk The Moon – Different Colors
4. The Weeknd – The Hills
5. Becky G – Break A Sweat

Baby Baby Blurb It Back
~ Zedd/Jon Bellion – Beautiful Now lasted a short, but sweet 3 weeks on the countdown. A few months on Hit-Bound is not equivalent to 3 weeks on the countdown. Seriously Hits 1. You got some nerves kicking that song out this early.

~ I don't think we got rid of enough trash this week as songs like Thinking Out Loud, Sugar, Good For You, Manana, and Cheerleader are all still here.

~ R. City/Adam Levine – Locked Away is now in the Top 10. Things are clearly starting to get better around here. Maybe within the next month, Want To Want Me, Talking Body, Uma Thurman, and maybe even Shut Up and Dance will be out of the Top 10.

~ Hits 1 must really like Shawn Mendes right now as Stitches just got promoted to the Top 5.

~ Pentatonix – Can't Sleep Love came on every time I got into my car as "Ear Poppin' Music". It was actually quite annoying. I just really don't like this song or the group.

~ I rarely ever hear Tear In My Heart yet it's still in the #10–#12 range.

~ I've officially grown into Phoebe Ryan – Mine. But I still think her voice is kind of annoying.

~ 5 Seconds Of Summer – She's Kinda Hot is slowly fading away on me.

~ The Hit 45 Chart for this week is not out yet but I'm hoping to finish it within the next 24 hours.

~ I apologize for the lack of blurbs. Nothing really happened this week.

~ Most Missed Countdown Song Of The Week: Swedish House Mafia/John Martin – Don't You Worry Child

My Top 5 Picks
1. X Ambassadors – Renegades
2. R. City/Adam Levine – Locked Away
3. Little Mix – Black Magic
4. A Great Big World – Hold Each Other
5. One Direction – Drag Me Down

New Entrants
~ Alright. We got 2 good entrants and 2 not so good entrants. Let's go from worst to best. First up we got Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – Downtown. Now I've been a fan of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' past album. 75% of the singles released from that album ended up being really good. This one, however, is quite annoying and in my opinion, a disappointment. I know these guys can do so much better. But the chorus is horrendous. Macklemore's verses are okay, but not good enough to make the color-coding on this song any better than red. I know this is going to be a hit, so I'll just have to get used to it. We'll see if my opinions change.

~ I've never been a fan of Pentatonix. They have never appealed to me and this new single doesn't appeal to me at all. Can't Sleep Love is okay in some parts, but is just plain out bad in other parts. But I can see myself possibly growing into this song in the near future (more likely than me growing into Downtown). But for now, I don't really like it.

~ Last we heard from Justin Bieber was 2013's Beauty and a Beat featuring Nicki Minaj, possibly Justin's catchiest song. What Do You Mean? unfortunately doesn't hit the height of Beauty and a Beat in my book. But it's still a good song. It just didn't wow me as much as I had hoped. He is going for a more mature sound with this new single, which I like. We'll see how his future music turns out compared to What Do You Mean?

~ X Ambassadors went more pop with new single, Renegades, than previous countdown song, Jungle w/ Jamie N Commons. Renegades is an uplifting song that always lightens my mood. I don't know how or why. It's just a really cool song. Thankfully Hits 1 kept the guitar solo towards the end of the song. I really hope to see some success out of this one.

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list for this week.

  • A Great Big World – Hold Each Other
  • Maroon 5 – Feelings

Livin' Like We're Blurbegades
~ Dimitri Vegas/Like Mike/Ummet Ozcan – The Hum has yet to debut here. It's a really catchy song so I hope to see it here soon. Maybe? Please???

~ The rather annoying Can't Feel My Face has reached the #2 spot. Although I really dislike this song, I would take it over Shut Up and Dance any day.

~ One Direction – Drag Me Down has now entered the Top 10. *begins to scream joy like a ridiculous fan girl*

~ The jump from Selena Gomez – Good For You was completely uncalled for and rather unnecessary as well as annoying in every way. Stop it. Now.

~ We may now scream joy as Taylor Swift – Style has slipped 35 spots to #40!!!

~ My mother has just recently started to enjoy Jess Glynne – Hold My Hand. I honestly had no comment when she told me it was a cool song even though I've heard it so much now AND it wasn't even that good to begin with.

~ The Top 10 needs some serious cleaning out.

~ Glad to see Uptown Funk leaving this countdown. I honestly don't know anyone who still enjoys that song.

~ Although I don't necessarily enjoy all of Ed Sheeran's music, I would like to thank the voters for putting Photograph to #1 and knocking out Shut Up and Dance. Hopefully now we can let a different song take the crown.

~ Throwback Pick Of The Week: Bad Meets Evil/Bruno Mars – Lighters

New Entrants
~ Cheyenne is probably one of the few Jason Derulo songs from his recent two albums that I actually enjoy (for now at least). This one needs to move up and Want To Want Me needs to move down.

If Blurbs Got Locked Away, Would You Still Love Me The Same?
~ Seriously North America? Why on earth would you vote Talking Body back into the Top 5? This is beyond outrageous.

~ All these good songs that hanging around in the teens need to move up and replace all the bad ones in the Top 10. If you can't tell, the Top 10 is a complete mess.

~ North America got it wrong having Tori Kelly – Should've Been Us drop to #38. Why is this happening to me?!

~ So this is how Adam Lambert – Ghost Town is going to spend its time on the countdown? It'll be truly sad if it can't peak any higher than its debut position.

~ We have quite a few mediocre songs on this countdown. MineHide Away, and Manana are perfect examples. I Don't Like It, I Love It and Love Myself are good, but not great.

~ Jess Glynne – Hold My Hand is officially annoying. Get out. Now!

~ It looks like All Time Low – Something's Gotta Give won't last very long anymore. Well it was nice having you around.

~ I'm really tired of Twenty One Pilots – Tear In My Heart at this point. I would like if it could leave sometime in the near future.

~ My guess: Carly Rae Jepsen – I Really Like You will not leave until Run Away With Me debuts. That is my theory.

~ Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud and Andy Grammer – Honey I'm Good need to move down to the bottom third of the countdown so the good songs down there can move up.

~ I may or may not create a Song War competition similar to the ones on Lance Warren's and Jack Farrell's blogs. It'll most likely happen so be aware of that. I'll try my best to have one for you guys.

~ The Hit 45 Chart for this week is out! Will X Ambassadors hold at #1 with Renegades for a second week in a row?! You'll have to click to find out!

~ Throwback Pick Of The Week: Natasha Bedingfield – Pocketful Of Sunshine
