2019 Grammy Awards: Performances Ranked

Hey guys! The 61st Annual Grammy Awards aired a few weeks ago. I did write a reactions and thoughts post regarding the awards that were given during the show like the day after it aired. Be sure to check that post out if you haven't already for whatever reason. But after discussing the awards, it's now time for me to discuss the performances. I believe this is the second time I'm doing it this way, but I will be ranking all of the performances from worst to best, that way the negativity can pushed out of the way first and the post will slowly get more positive. So let's just get right into it and I hope you guys enjoy.

18. Cardi B – Money
This performance was a bathroom break honestly and it bored me to death. I've never liked this song because I think Cardi B is capable and she definitely has potential. The song is just bland and the performance was not interesting at all. She looked insane in whatever it is she was wearing and she did not sound good. This was just a bad song choice for her and I think she would've put on a good performance if she did I Like It even though I don't like the song. At least there would be some energy.

Grade: 0.5/10

17. Janelle Monáe – Make Me Feel / Django Jane / Pynk
Cardi B's performance was the only one that I straight up disliked. This one was mostly just a snoozefest for me personally. I know critics love Janelle's music, but it just does nothing for me honestly. I didn't like any of the songs performed and I did not like her voice either. She did put on a good performance though, so I give her that. It was nice to watch, but the songs were bad. So overall, not very interesting. That's just my opinion though.

Grade: 3.5/10

16. Travis Scott/James Blake/Philip Bailey – Stop Trying To Be God / No Bystanders
I did not particularly care for this one either. James Blake sounded okay. But either Travis Scott was lip-syncing or he learned how to make his voice sound autotuned. It got interesting about halfway through when he went into the cage and had all these people come on the stage and act like animals. Do I think that was a smart move? Not really, but it caught my attention at the very least. That aside, there was nothing special about this performance at all and that's kind of how it goes with all rap performance unless it's Kendrick Lamar.

Grade: 4/10

15. Jennifer Lopez/Smokey Robinson/Ne-Yo/Alicia Keys – Motown Tribute
Why did we have Jennifer Lopez of all people do a tribute to Motown? She sounded fine most of the time, but I feel like they could've picked a much better artist instead. The performance overall was okay, but I was kind of zoning out at different moments because none of it really kept my attention. Maybe it's because this was late in the show and I was getting tired, but I just wasn't wowed or amazed by this at all.

Grade: 5/10

14. Camila Cabello/Young Thug/Ricky Martin/J Balvin/Arturo Sandoval – Havana / Pégate / Mi Gente
This was the big opener of the show and it kind of fell flat if I'm being totally honest. I'm glad she did Havana and not one of her bad songs and I did like the whole Latin vibe it had going. But Camila sounded bad right from the first note. Her vocals were not very good and it further proves my point that she's just not a good singer. Young Thug sounded bad. Ricky Martin kind of helped the performance because he did sound really good. But then J Balvin tanked it with his beyond mediocre vocals. There were some interesting dances that were fun to watch, but other than that, this should've been much better than it was.

Grade: 5/10

13. H.E.R. – Hard Place
Here we have a performance from Album of the Year nominee H.E.R. and it was fine to say the very least. It was nothing too exciting the first time, but rewatching it allowed me to realize that she is indeed very talented. I didn't really care for the song that much, but it was kind of interesting. I didn't really like her voice first time around, but now I know it is technically good. I feel like I had higher expectations at first. But for an R&B singer, she has a nice voice. I also really like the guitar and I thought it sounded great. Overall, not amazing, but enjoyable for what it is.

Grade: 7/10

12. Diana Ross – The Best Years Of My Life / Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand)
I assume those who grew up with Diana Ross have stronger feelings about this performance than I do. I don't know much from her, so I don't particularly care that much for her, although I recognize that she is very talented. She has a great voice. I don't think this performance showed that as much as it could've. But it was a fine performance and I imagine those who grew up listening to her enjoyed it more than I did. This was kind of a zone-out performance for me, but it was technically good.

Grade: 7/10

11. St. Vincent/Dua Lipa – Masseduction / One Kiss
For some reason, this performance was better when I watched it live. Rewatching it on YouTube made the flaws more noticeable. But I'm not deducting any points because of that because I did enjoy it the first time around. St. Vincent's vocals were not that great during this performance, but I know she's a great singer. Dua Lipa sounded pretty good and she had much better stage presence this time as opposed to that one award show last year where she sang New Rules. The guitar sounded great and I thought it was an interesting mash up of songs. I definitely got some strong lesbian vibes at certain points in the performance, which definitely made it interesting. So I give them credit for keeping my attention. Overall, it was pretty enjoyable even if the vocals weren't the best.

Grade: 7.5/10

10. Brandi Carlile – The Joke
The one nominee for Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year that had me scratching my head wondering who she was gave us a performance at the Grammys, which I'm happy about as it allowed me to learn a little bit more about who she is and her style. After watching this performance, I now understand why she received as many nominations as she did in the big categories. I believe The Joke is a very good song and this performance how talented she is as a musician, singer, and songwriter. I found her voice slightly irritating in the chorus, but that's probably her style and I understand that. It's objectively good and I found the performance quite interesting. I wouldn't have been upset if The Joke won Song of the Year as it was more worthy of it than songs like God's Plan and Boo'd Up.

Grade: 8/10

9. Alicia Keys Medley
The show is not complete without the host giving us a performance of her own. Using two pianos, Alicia Keys gave us a beautiful medley of a bunch of hits that she wishes she wrote. I always knew she was a great singer and she definitely showed that in this performance. This is why I love piano ballads because there's not much I love more in music than hearing just a piano and the singer because it highlights the singer's voice so well and I consider the piano the most beautiful instrument in existence. That's just my opinion. But anyway, I liked some of her song choices and she even made some of the questionable ones like Lucid Dreams sound good. Her transitions were really good and I love how she closed it out with Empire State Of Mind because I think that is a fantastic song mostly because Alicia is just such a perfect fit for it. Overall, I thought this was really good.

Grade: 8.5/10

8. Chloe x Halle – Where Is The Love
I did not know who these girls were aside from the fact that they were nominated for Best New Artist. So this was my first time hearing their voices and I see why they were nominated. I was certainly not expecting what I got out of this performance. They are incredibly talented singers and I thought they sounded amazing the whole time. They have such unique voices that blend together so nicely. So vocally, this performance was near perfect. Other than that, I found it slightly underwhelming, although I'm assuming their vocals were supposed to be the main focus. Still, it didn't really feel fully complete to me. But their voices are stellar.

Grade: 8.5/10

7. Dan + Shay – Tequila
You guys already know how I feel about this song. It's such a nice song that I've loved since first listen. This is not the first time I've seen them perform it live, so it wasn't exactly that fresh. But they did a really nice job with it. The piano sounded nice and the vocals were really good. So yeah. I don't really have much else to say about it. It was great.

Grade: 9/10

6. Dolly Parton/Kacey Musgraves/Katy Perry/Miley Cyrus/Maren Morris/Little Big Town – Tribute To Dolly Parton
I'm not entirely familiar with a lot of Dolly Parton's music, but I did know a few of the songs that were performed in this tribute. But I thought it was a really enjoyable performance because Dolly Parton is a great singer and it was nice hearing a bunch of different voices throughout. Kacey Musgraves and Maren Morris have really nice voices that sounded very good with the songs they performed. I wasn't surprised to see Miley sing Jolene as I've seen her sing that before with Dolly Parton. I love the song and I think Miley has a great voice for it. Little Big Town were really good. Katy Perry being included was kind of questionable as she was the only non-country artist included. She did sound good, but I feel like she was a little unnecessary. Also this performance was long clocking in at ten and a half minutes. But like I said, it was nice hearing different voices in and out. So while the performance was long, it had my attention the whole time. I also liked how everyone came together for 9 To 5 at the end. Overall, this was a great performance and definitely one of the highlights of the night.

Grade: 9.5/10

5. Fantasia/Andra Day/Yolanda Adams – (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman
Aretha Franklin was definitely one of the biggest losses within the past year. So these women performed (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman as a tribute and I thought it was great. These ladies have very soulful voices that sounded great all throughout this performance. I got chills at various moments. I don't think I've ever heard this song performed this well by other artists. From a vocal standpoint, this was sensational and it was very enjoyable performance to watch. These women just have such amazing voices.

Grade: 9.5/10

4. Lady Gaga/Mark Ronson – Shallow
One thing's for sure, this was definitely nothing like her and Bradley's performance of this at the Oscars. That performance felt much more like the new Lady Gaga and what the movie was going for. This performance felt like old Lady Gaga from the way she dressed to the way she performed. And both of them were fantastic. I thought her voice sounded amazing here and the guitars sounded great. I loved her energy even if the song is much different from we used to get from Gaga. It's a fantastic song and this was a fantastic performance. I also loved the performance of it at the Oscars because I really felt the chemistry between her and Bradley Cooper. And because of that performance and it winning the Oscar for Best Original Song, it actually has a chance to go to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, which I am all for because I love this song and I'm so glad it got as big as it did. Lady Gaga is definitely one of the best pop artists right now and I consider her iconic.

Grade: 10/10

3. Shawn Mendes/Miley Cyrus – In My Blood
You guys know I adore this song and I was very excited to hear that it would be performed. Shawn Mendes is an undeniably great singer and I love how the performance opened up with him at the piano and then got more energetic as the song continued. Even though I've seen this song performed before, it was still pretty fresh because the addition of Miley Cyrus, who is a fantastic singer. I may not like all of her music, but I do recognize her talent and I think she has an amazing voice. She uses it very well and it just blends very nicely with Shawn's. So yeah. I loved the performance and I absolutely love the song. I thought everything went very well.

Grade: 10/10

2. Post Malone/Red Hot Chili Peppers – Stay / Rockstar / Dark Necessities
I didn't have very high expectations going into this. I thought it was a strange pairing, but I was curious to see how it would turn out. I don't really like Post Malone's music for the most part, but I know he's talented and he has a good voice. I think that good voice showed on Stay. During that part of the performance, I felt like his talent was actually coming through, which is not something I hear from him very often. Then we got Rockstar, which I do consider a good song now despite initially disliking it. I think he sounded pretty good during the song. But it wasn't until the Red Hot Chili Peppers came on that this became one of the best performances of the night. I was a fan of Dark Necessities a couple of years ago when the song was released. I think it's cool how they still performed it and they just brought the energy honestly. I think a rock band like them is something the Grammys needs every year. Anthony Kiedis sounded really good and I loved his energy. The band sounded great and it was one of those performances that I just could not look away from. It was very entertaining and a big highlight of the night in my opinion.

Grade: 10/10

1. Kacey Musgraves – Rainbow
I'm a little ashamed of myself for not giving Kacey Musgraves a chance until recently. If you read my post with my reactions to the awards, you'd know that I was thrilled by her big Album of the Year win because I actually listened to Golden Hour not long before the show and I thought it was a fantastic album and easily the most deserving for Album of the Year. Seriously, it's great. Go listen to it if you haven't already. I'm so glad we got to see her perform because she did a fantastic job. She performed the album's closer and newest single, Rainbow, which I love. It's such a nice song and I thought this performance was beautiful. Kacey Musgraves has such a beautiful voice and I almost think she sounded better live than in the actual song and she sounds great in both. But I love that this song in particular is a piano ballad because it highlights her voice well and it's just such a nice song. The rainbow in the background looked beautiful and she sounded beautiful. Everything about this performance was just amazing in my opinion and I really love this song. She is a great singer and songwriter and I'm so glad she won as many awards as did because she deserved each and every one of them. I'm very glad Rainbow is now a single because it's a beautiful song and this performance was the best of the night in my opinion.

Grade: 11/10

So there you have it! Those are all the Grammy performances ranked based on my thoughts and opinions. I know it took a while to get this done, but I appreciate your guys' patience and I really hope you enjoyed. Overall, I thought the performances were pretty good. Some of them were okay, but there were very few bad ones, so that's something. That along with most of the awards going to the right people made the Grammys a pretty enjoyable watch this year and I'm glad. Hopefully next year will go just as well or even be better. And maybe I'll become a fan of another unknown artist like I did this year with Kacey Musgraves. But overall, it was a great show and I hope you enjoyed these review posts. Thanks for reading!

New Entrants
~ First up this week, we have Zedd and Katy Perry with 365. I didn't have high expectations for this after all the trash Zedd put out last year. When I listened to this for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised. I think it has a cool little opening and I like the production for the most part. It's more of a chill electronic tune than hardcore EDM. It's definitely not Zedd's best and I still prefer True Colors. But I consider it a big step in a right direction after The Middle and Happy Now, which were two of the worst songs of last year. Katy Perry sounds pretty good here overall and I quite like her vocals in the chorus and the "I think about you all the time" part. Her voice is not so blatantly auto tuned, so it's not unbearable to listen to like The Middle and Happy Now. But overall, I enjoy this song and I think it's the best thing he's done since True Colors with Kesha back in 2016 I believe. If the rest of his new album is anything like 365, maybe it won't be as bad as I thought.

~ Next we have a song that's been around for quite a while. It's Miss Me More by Kelsea Ballerini. The first time I ever heard this song was several months ago when she performed it at some country award show. I thought it was really good and it quickly became a favorite of mine. I did not think it would actually become a mainstream single, but I'm very happy that it did and that it managed to debut here. It's more of a pop song than a country song, but that's probably what drew me to it honestly. It's very catchy and has a great chorus. I like the opening with the guitar and I think she has a great voice that she uses very well. I like the lyrics and the song's theme of finding your independence and not trying to be someone else for a significant other. I think everything just worked out with this song and I'm so happy that it's here. I would love to see it become a hit.

~ Finally we have another collaboration between Cardi B and Bruno Mars. This time it is called Please Me. I had expectation for this and the song didn't meet those unfortunately. I don't know if it's because I kept telling myself it would be Finesse 2.0 and I was disappointed that it wasn't. Finesse was a jam last year and is miles better than this new song. With Please Me, I don't like how slow it is and the scattery beat and hi-hats are annoying. I don't understand Cardi B's appeal honestly because I think her voice is really annoying. She can be a good rapper at times, but usually for faster songs. With slower songs like this, it's not really rapping and there's more emphasis on how annoying her voice is. Her lyrics are also very questionable with constant references to her vagina, which is probably nothing new. But it's just weird because she's a married woman and a mother. That might just be me though. Then we have Bruno Mars, who is an objectively great singer. But I don't think his voice fits this kind of song. This is like a worse version of Versace On The Floor. I don't like when he shouts "please" in the chorus. Other than that, his vocals are okay, but they should be a lot better because he has a great voice. Overall, I think this is not very good and a big step down from Finesse. Please Me is not awful, but it's not something I can ever see myself coming back to.

Best Debut of the Week: Kelsea Ballerini – Miss Me More

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list.

  • Kelsy Karter – Harry
  • Lauv/Troye Sivan – I'm So Tired
  • Grandson – Apologize
  • Imagine Dragons – Bad Liar
  • LSD/Lil Wayne – Genius
  • Panic! At The Disco – Dancing's Not A Crime
  • Maren Morris – GIRL
  • Gesaffelstein/The Weeknd – Lost In The Fire
  • Madison Beer/Offset – Hurts Like Hell
  • Post Malone – Wow
  • Yungblud/Halsey/Travis Barker – 11 Minutes (DEBUT)
  • Meghan Trainor – All The Ways
  • Lil Peep/iLoveMakonnen/Fall Out Boy – I've Been Waiting
  • Rita Ora – Let You Love Me
  • lovelytheband – Maybe I'm Afraid

~ Our one new entrant this week is from Yungblud, Halsey, Travis Barker from Blink-182. It's called 11 Minutes. I only know Yungblud because of the song he did for the 13 Reasons Why season 2 soundtrack. I expected to dislike this song more than I do. Yungblud sounds really bad and Halsey sounds okay in the chorus, but not very good anywhere else. I also don't like the super long outro. But the production is really good, so all credit for this being decent goes to Travis Barker because Yungblud and Halsey did nothing to help this song. It's okay for now, but it won't stick with me if it gets overplayed.

~ Gesaffelstein/The Weeknd – Lost In The Fire has been declining everywhere, so I doubt this will debut at this point. It is still a good song, but I've kinda stopped listening to it. It did deserve better though.

Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Panic! At The Disco – Dancing's Not A Crime
2. Imagine Dragons – Bad Liar
3. Rita Ora – Let You Love Me
4. Gesaffelstein/The Weeknd – Lost In The Fire
5. LSD/Lil Wayne – Genius

Blurb Me More
~ Panic! At The Disco – Hey Look Ma, I Made It rose to #2 this week swapping places with High Hopes. I'd be shocked if this didn't hit #1. It's official single release date is coming up and it's been getting some adds on pop radio. I also heard it on The Pulse earlier this week. So maybe this will end up becoming a hit. I'd be down for that.

~ Close To Me by Ellie Goulding rose into the Top 10 this week. I'd be much happier about it if it was a good song, but I'm happy to see Ellie Goulding still have success. She has another single coming out soon, which I really hope is better than this because I want to still love her music. But I'm glad the public is still interested in her and her music.

~ Despite being pure garbage, 7 Rings by Ariana Grande seems to be rising quickly. I really hope this doesn't become a huge hit here because no one wants to listen to Ariana bragging about her lifestyle and being rich over a shitty beat. I just don't get the appeal whatsoever because this is awful in every single way.

~ I don't know why Seeb/Bastille – Grip is in the Top 20. This is probably the most irrelevant song on the countdown right now and one of the most generic. Who the hell is voting for this? I am happy though to see Better by Khalid in the Top 20.

~ Generic Sabrina Carpenter made a big jump this week with Sue Me. I doubt this will last because none of her songs stick around. I don't expect this one to be any different. Hopefully that's the case as this is probably her worst song.

~ Zara Larsson – Ruin My Life is probably not going to stick around much longer, and I'm okay with that because the song should be much better than it is knowing what Zara Larsson is capable of.

~ Mark Ronson/Miley Cyrus – Nothing Breaks Like A Heart is also probably not going to stick around much longer, which is sad because this is actually a great song. I like Miley Cyrus on it and the guitar just does it for me. I think it sounds really good and it was a great fit. It's a shame this couldn't be a bigger hit.

~ Jake Miller – Wait For You is very irrelevant, so it's drop doesn't surprise me. I'm also not surprised by the drop into the Bottom 5 from Sicko Mode by Travis Scott. I knew right from the start that this would have a shitty countdown run and so far I was right. This will probably stick around for a couple more weeks and then leave like In My Feelings despite being a great song.

~ As far as the exits go, I Found You was beyond generic. I've felt that way since it was released and nothing has changed. I don't like the basic production and Calvin is not that good of a singer. The other two are very bad and I'm glad they left. I forgot Empty Space existed, but Say You Won't Let Go is a million times better. I don't like his voice here at all. Then we have Machine, which is straight up trash because of the clunky beat, grating guitar solo, and unnecessary yelling. This should've never debuted here and because it did, it'll probably end up appearing in my Worst of 2019 list.

I still plan on reviewing the performances, although if that doesn't get done this week, then I don't think it'll end up happening. So we'll see what happens. New Entrants
~ We have six debuts this week. I'm going to go from worst to best starting with the highest debut of the week, 7 Rings by Ariana Grande. I wrote a pretty good rant on this song when it debuted on Hit-Bound. I'm not entirely sure what Ariana was going for here because this is easily the worst song of her career. The production is really bad and I don't like the trap beat at all. Ariana barely sings and we get a lot of rapping from her, which does not sound good. She has a beautiful voice when she sings, but rapping is just not her thing. And the lyrics are shit. The song is literally just her bragging about rich and having everything she wants. "Whoever said money can't solve your problems must not have had enough money to solve 'em." I just can't get on board with this because it gives off bad messages and is musically annoying as shit. This is definitely one of the worst songs of the year so far and it's safe to say that those who like this song are the Ariana stans who consume literally everything she puts out. So yeah. I hate this song and Ariana is much better than this.

~ Next we have an artist who I have never really liked aside from one song. It's the irrelevant Sabrina Carpenter debuting with Sue Me. The only song of hers that I've liked in the past is Almost Love. But other than that, her music has just never appealed to me and I feel like she's meant for younger audiences than me. I don't really know. She is talented, but she doesn't really show that a lot of the time, which includes Sue Me. The song sounds a lot like Sorry Not Sorry by Demi Lovato since Sabrina Carpenter seems to have worked with the same producer. I thought the production on that song was a hot mess and this one is not much better. I do not like the beat at all and her voice just annoys me for some reason in this song. She has an interesting voice that can sound great if used well, which is not the case here. Overall, I think this song is  a little bit of a mess and quite annoying. Hopefully it does not stick around long.

~ Next we have the return of Jake Miller, who I kind of forgot existed because of how irrelevant he's been these past several years. I do like his voice and I think he's a good singer. The production on this song is very strange and not very interesting in my opinion. The lyrics are fine for the most part, but the song is very forgettable. I'm surprised it actually debuted. He's done a lot better in the past. Good singer, but needs a better production team.

~ I did not think this song would actually debut, but coming in late to the party, we have Sicko Mode by Travis Scott featuring Drake, Big Hawk, and Swae Lee. Despite me only being almost 20, when it comes to rap music, I have the taste of an old man. I just think a lot of it is very pointless and generic. But I quite like Sicko Mode honestly. Is it the best rap song I've ever heard? Of course not. But I think the production is solid and I like the transition at the beginning from Drake to Travis. I think they both deliver great performances. There's not exactly much to the lyrics, which is not exactly surprising. But musically, I find this song pleasing enough and it's definitely something I can enjoy whenever it comes on. It's been around for quite a while now, but I still like it quite a bit. I already know it's going to flop here after seeing how Drake has done on this countdown within the past year. Hopefully it can stick around a little bit.

~ Next is a collaboration I did not see coming. It's Sam Smith and Normani Kordei with Dancing With A Stranger. I've enjoyed music from both artists in the past and I was interested when I saw that they collaborated on a song. It's a little different from what I'd expect from Sam Smith, but it's definitely very catchy. I really like the beat and I love Sam Smith's voice here all throughout. The way he transitions from the verses to the chorus sounds really good. Normani also sounds really good, further proving that she is the best singer from Fifth Harmony and I'd argue she's the only good one. I think her performance here is her best performance yet. Her voice is very unique and it just fits well with the vibe of the song. I think the two artists have great chemistry. So yeah. I think this is a great song and it's hard to picture it not being a hit.

~ Finally we have two of Hits 1's favorite artists. It's The Chainsmokers and 5 Seconds Of Summer. I already know this is Hits 1's dream come true given how much they stan both acts. So of course it's already here. Who Do You Love is once again a step in the right direction for The Chainsmokers. I thought the song was good at first listen, but it definitely got better with time. The production is really good for the most part. I don't love the drop, but it's enjoyable enough, especially the last one. The vocals here are fantastic and I'm glad Drew Taggart doesn't come in at any point because usually their best songs are the ones he doesn't have lead vocals in (see Roses, Something Just Like This, and Side Effects). The members of 5 Seconds Of Summer easily have better voices than him, so I'm glad he has no part. Overall, I really enjoy this and I think it has potential to do well here. Hopefully it becomes a hit everywhere else.

Best Debut of the Week: The Chainsmokers/5 Seconds Of Summer – Who Do You Love

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list.

  • Imagine Dragons – Bad Liar
  • Rita Ora – Let You Love Me
  • lovelytheband – Maybe, I'm Afraid
  • Maren Morris – GIRL (DEBUT)
  • Gesaffelstein/The Weeknd – Lost In The Fire
  • Panic! At The Disco – Dancing's Not A Crime
  • Kelsea Ballerini – Miss Me More
  • Post Malone – Wow
  • Grandson – Apologize
  • Meghan Trainor – All The Ways (DEBUT)
  • Lil Peep/iLoveMakonnen/Fall Out Boy – I've Been Waiting
  • Madison Beer/Offset – Hurts Like Hell (DEBUT)
  • Lauv/Troye Sivan – I'm So Tired
  • LSD/Lil Wayne – Genius (DEBUT)
  • Kelsy Karter – Harry (DEBUT)

~ Despite Maren Morris being involved in two of the worst songs to hit Hits 1 in 2018, I still think she's very talented because I very much remember when I first heard My Church, which I fell in love with back in 2016. Regarding GIRL, I've been very mixed on it since it was released. On the one hand, it's a step up from what we got from her last year. But on the other hand, it's not original and it does nothing for me. This, to me, is a ripoff of 80s Mercedes, which is one of her best songs. Musically, this is unoriginal, uninteresting, and it just feels like an album filler. Her voice is technically good, but she doesn't shine here like I know she can. I much prefer her newer song Common with Brandi Carlile (who I only know because of all the Grammys she was nominated for). That one felt original and I can really hear how talented she is. GIRL is a bland pop song that is just destined for radio honestly.

~ For those who are unaware of what's been going on with Meghan Trainor's music, her album Treat Myself was originally supposed to come out last August, but was pushed back to January. Then we hit January and the album was taken down from iTunes, which I think is hilarious because I can only imagine what the fans were thinking. So instead, we got The Love Train EP including All The Ways, which has been around for a while. I don't like Meghan Trainor at all if I haven't made that clear already. Her songwriting just bugs me, I don't like her voice, and she made the worst song of this decade back in 2014. This new song is better than the majority of what she has released in the past. I can get on board with the lyrics because it is improvement. But I still don't like her voice and the song kind of bores me. But it's definitely not the worst thing ever.

~ Following up on songs that have been out for a while and are just now playing on Hits 1, Hurts Like Hell by Madison Beer has made its debut onto Hit-Bound. She had that Home With You song last year, which was good but forgettable as hell as I don't remember how the song goes at all. Hurts Like Hell is worse because I don't like the production and I find the chorus annoying. I kinda liked her voice on Home With You, but I don't like her voice here at all. She doesn't sound unique and it just doesn't fit with the rest of the song. Offset's verse added nothing, so removing him didn't affect the song at all. Overall, the song is very generic.

~ I feel like I made my thoughts on LSD clear back when Thunderclouds came around. Of course Genius has been around longer, but honestly who cares about logic? The only reason it's here is because of the rerelease with Lil Wayne. I initially said I didn't like this song, but it has warmed up on me and I enjoy the original version. The remix is still good but I don't love Lil Wayne on it and the song became a lot shorter. I still enjoy it, but I'll very much stick with the original version.

~ Sometimes I wonder where the hell Hits 1 picks up some of these random songs. A lot of times they're good, and then once in a while we get a song like Harry by Kelsy Karter. If this song actually makes it onto the countdown, it will have a very good chance at appearing high in my Worst of 2019 list. This song is beyond obnoxious and her voice is absolutely terrible. Her vocals are not singing. They are a weird mix of talking and screaming and it sounds awful. I don't know why this is here but I hope it goes away.

Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Kelsea Ballerini – Miss Me More
2. Panic! At The Disco – Dancing's Not A Crime
3. Imagine Dragons – Bad Liar
4. Rita Ora – Let You Love Me
5. Gesaffelstein/The Weeknd – Lost In The Fire

Blurbing With A Stranger
~ So I just recently listened to This Feeling for the first time in a while and it's better than I remembered. So I enjoy it quite a bit and I'm so glad to see it back at #1 just because it's a million times better than Without Me. I'd be all for it sticking around as long as it wants.

~ 5 Seconds Of Summer – Youngblood should honestly not still be in the Top 5. This is a such a 2018 song and it feels so old at this point. I don't know anyone that still jams to this when it comes on the radio because no one wants to hear it anymore.

~ Ava Max – Sweet But Psycho rose into the Top 10 this week. I don't love the song and aside from the chorus, I find it quite forgettable. But it's solid and I'm fine with it sticking around for a little while. I just hope it doesn't stay this high too long like our #7 song.

~ Stephen Puth – Sexual Vibe and Avril Lavigne – Tell Me It's Over made some nice second-week jumps. I definitely hope they become hits because both of them are great songs.

~ For some reason, Jennifer Lopez – Limitless rose out of the Bottom 5. I'm not sure who's voting for this as I doubt anyone actually knows what this is. This woman is talented, but this song doesn't show it.

~ Benny Blanco/Calvin Harris – I Found You took quite a fall this week. The song isn't bad, but I don't like it because it's very generic and Calvin Harris is not that great of a singer. I'd be all for it falling off the countdown soon.

~ As far as the exits go, Trust My Lonely was bad. Ocean To Ocean should've never debuted, although it is quite amusing to see it go so quickly. Breathin definitely deserved better as it's one of Ariana Grande's best songs. But of course her putting out Thank U, Next killed Breathin's chance of becoming a single as big as No Tears Left To Cry. Back To You had a great run and I'm glad the great Selena Gomez song did well and not the trash she put out in 2017. Say Amen has been here for what feels like ages, so I'm not too disappointed to see it go. It did insanely well for a song that wasn't big anywhere else. And finally, we have my #2 song of 2018, In My Blood. I still really love this song and I doubt it'll ever get old to me. Everything about it was just done so well and it very much deserved all the success it had. This is, in my opinion, Shawn Mendes' best song and even though it had an amazing run, it will still be missed by me. And with that, we conclude a long run of having Shawn Mendes songs on the countdown (for now at least).
