New Entrants
~ First up this week, we have Maren Morris with Rich. I'm willing to bet everything I own that the only reason this song is here is because of The Middle. If it weren't for that song, these people at Hits 1 wouldn't care less about who Maren Morris is. I do like some of her songs like My Church (because of her stellar vocals) and 80s Mercedes (because of the catchy production). But Rich is just not one of those songs. She comes off as very arrogant and full of herself on here and that kinda just turns me off. She's talented, but I don't think this song shows that. I know she's capable of more. In the meantime, I'm hoping this song doesn't become a big hit, which I don't think it will given that I haven't really seen it anywhere else.

~ Next we have the return of producer Calvin Harris with the help of Dua Lipa on the track One Kiss. This song has definitely grown on me with repeated listens. It's definitely nowhere near Calvin Harris' best work. But it's good to say the very least in terms of the production. I know Calvin Harris has been going for a different sound lately with his most recent album which had two great singles that made it onto my favorite songs of 2017. One Kiss, while not exactly topping those songs, is good on its own. Dua Lipa sounds good on the track. Overall, the song is just good. It's nothing amazing, but it's enjoyable for the time being and it could still potentially grow on me more.

Best Debut of the Week: Calvin Harris/Dua Lipa – One Kiss

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list.

  • Sam Smith/Logic – Pray
  • HRVY – Personal
  • Fall Out Boy – The Last Of The Real Ones
  • Sugarland/Taylor Swift – Babe
  • Hundred Handed – Too Good
  • Panic! At The Disco – High Hopes
  • 5 Seconds Of Summer – Youngblood
  • Cardi B – I Like It
  • In Real Life – Tattoo (How 'Bout You)
  • Liam Payne/J Balvin – Familiar
  • lovelytheband – Broken
  • Meghan Trainor – Let You Be Right
  • Dennis Lloyd – Nevermind
  • The Wrecks – James Dean
  • U2/Cheat Codes – Love Is Bigger Than Anything In Its Way (DEBUT)
  • Backstreet Boys – Don't Go Breaking My Heart (DEBUT)
  • Maroon 5/Cardi B – Girls Like You (DEBUT)

~ First we have Maroon 5 with another mediocre single from Red Pill Blues, titled Girls Like You. The song is very underwhelming in terms of the production and the vocals. Cardi B's verse is probably the only thing about the song that's actually interesting. Other than that, this is nothing exciting at all. The Adam Levine Experience strikes again.

~ Next we have U2 with Love Is Bigger Than Anything In Its Way, which is from their most recent album, Songs of Experience. I know their last album, Songs of Innocence, had some pretty good songs like Cedarwood Road. I haven't listened to the newer album though, so I might check it out. Hits 1 apparently plays the Cheat Codes remix of this new song, which is good I guess. The original was decent, but the remix made it just slightly better. I like Bono's vocals and that's probably the best thing about the song. But the production is just slightly annoying at certain points and I'll blame Cheat Codes for that. Nothing against U2. The song is green, but it could change to blue.

~ Finally we have the long-awaited return of the Backstreet Boys with Don't Go Breaking My Heart. I think this song is really good. It's fun and catchy and definitely something I can picture myself singing along to. Easily the best debut of the week. I'm very excited to have these guys back. Hopefully this debuts on the countdown soon.

Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Panic! At The Disco – High Hopes
2. Backstreet Boys – Don't Go Breaking My Heart
3. Fall Out Boy – The Last Of The Real Ones
4. Sugarland/Taylor Swift – Babe
5. Liam Payne/J Balvin – Familiar

One Blurb
~ We have another new #1 song in the form of Say Amen, which is the best #1 song we've had a long time (since Good Old Days). I'm very happy about this and I'm glad Hits 1 has been treating it well. It really is a great song as is everything else from Pray For The Wicked so far. Panic! At The Disco needs some better recognition outside of this station.

~ We have three new songs in the Top 10. In My Blood took quite a while to get there. IDGAF didn't take very long on the other hand. As far as the latter goes, the title of the song pretty much explains how I feel about it being in the Top 10. Frankly, I just can't care less about this song. Finally we have Done For Me, which is the exciting Top 10 entrant. I look forward to this being a big hit for not just Charlie Puth, but Kehlani as well.

~ The drop from Post Malone/Ty Dolla $ign – Psycho last week clearly did not last long. I really don't expect it to do anything. It'll probably fall right back down next week, which I'm hoping will be the case.

~ Meanwhile, AJR/Rivers Cuomo – Sober Up is still jumping for some reason??? Can we please stop this. The song has been here much longer than it should've been. I'm not sure why we're making these garbage songs hits.

~ Meghan Trainor – No Excuses and Camila Cabello – Never Be The Same both made some nice drops out of the Top 30. Hopefully we can say goodbye to them soon, though it'll probably be another couple months.

~ Somehow, Charlie Puth – How Long broke out of the Bottom 5 for the first time in a while. This song is still slowly fading on me. So I wouldn't mind it leaving pretty soon.

~ As far as the exits go, Feel It Still stayed absolutely way too long. That was terrible. I liked the song at first. But my god radio killed it. This should've left months ago. But at least it's gone now. We also lost Marshmello/Selena Gomez – Wolves, which I was slowly getting sick of. So I don't mind seeing it leave. It was nice while it lasted though.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I really hope it doesn't. If that takes away a debut from a song like Youngblood or Pray that would be annoying

      Delete
    2. Well Youngblood and Pray are definitely debuting. They have had way better airplay than Personal. It just seems that it could either be two ways:

      1. Let You Be Right and Personal join the 6 songs and have a massive 8-exit week (Not likely at all.)

      OR...

      2. LYBR and Personal will drop out of Hit-Bound and debut next week. (Most likely)

      Delete
    3. The second senario sounds pretty likely, though I could see LYBR debuting this week and Personal next week. Has there ever been 8 exits in a single week?
