Zedd (9) – Week Of May 26, 2018

New Entrants
~ This week we have the return of New Rules. I'm kinda tired of the song at this point. But given that it's been fading away lately everywhere else, I don't think this will stay long.

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list.

  • Sam Smith/Logic – Pray
  • HRVY – Personal
  • Fall Out Boy – The Last Of The Real Ones (DEBUT)
  • The Wrecks – James Dean
  • Calvin Harris/Dua Lipa – One Kiss
  • 5 Seconds of Summer – Youngblood
  • Cardi B – I Like It
  • Maren Morris – Rich
  • Liam Payne/J Balvin – Familiar
  • Meghan Trainor – Let You Be Right
  • lovelytheband – Broken
  • In Real Life – Tattoo (How 'Bout You)
  • Dennis Lloyd – Nevermind
  • Sugarland/Taylor Swift – Babe
  • Hundred Handed – Too Good
  • Panic! At The Disco – High Hopes (DEBUT)

~ For once, I'm able to review Hit-Bound debuts without having to listen to them because I'm already familiar with them. First we have Fall Out Boy with The Last Of The Real Ones. MANIA was a disappointment of an album, but frankly I wasn't expecting much. The Last Of The Real Ones is one of the few good songs on there and I'm glad it made its debut here. Great production and the vocals are good. It reminds me of the old Fall Out Boy that I loved. It definitely has more of a rock feel than some of the other songs on the album, which is very much a good thing. Hoping this debuts on the countdown soon.

~ Next we have more Brendon Urie with High Hopes, which literally just came out a couple of days ago. I really like this song. It's very fun and enjoyable. The instrumentation is great and Brendon almost never disappoints with his vocals. I'll have more to say when this debuts. But this song is definitely a keeper.

~ We lost two songs this week: Over My Head and Live In The Moment. The former I really didn't care about. Echosmith has definitely done better in my opinion. It just wasn't for me I guess. But the latter is somewhat disappointing, but I'm not really surprised. At least it was on the countdown and, therefore, is eligible for my Top 45 songs of 2018.

Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Panic! At The Disco – High Hopes
2. Fall Out Boy – The Last Of The Real Ones
3. Liam Payne/J Balvin – Familiar
4. The Wrecks – James Dean
5. Sugarland/Taylor Swift – Babe

New Blurbs
~ Niall Horan – On The Loose is new to the Top 5. Despite this song not being big anywhere else, I do think it's a good song. So I'm cool with it being where it is. We definitely have worse in the Top 10.

~ Bad Wolves – Zombie made a very nice jump into the Top 10 this week. I'm very impressed with how well this song has been doing. Definitely keep the votes coming for this one. I love hearing a good rock song on this station. Frankly, I see no flaws with this song whatsoever. Hopefully it continues to do well.

~ However, Post Malone/Ty Dolla $ign – Psycho made a rather annoying jump into the Top 20. Like I said, I can tolerate Rockstar. But there's really nothing good about Psycho. This is a good example of boring rap music that no one wants to listen to, or at least people with good taste. Hopefully this one drops soon, but I doubt it since Hits 1 appear to have become fans of Post Malone.

~ On the bright side, Camila Cabello – Never Be The Same took a nice drop out of the Top 20. Definitely a little sudden, but I'm very pleased with it. This song has been bad from the start and I'm hoping it can keep declining from here. (Watch it jump back up next week. I'm calling it.)

~ Kendrick Lamar/SZA – All The Stars barely jumped this week and Foster The People – Sit Next To Me dropped right back down to #35. Hopefully the former can make a better jump soon and the latter can recover. Both are great songs that absolutely do not deserve to be underrated.

~ I find it fascinating how Psycho jumped despite God's Plan being the bigger hit of the year so far, and frankly the better song. Yet this doesn't surprise me considering that I've been a Hits 1 listener long enough to understand that they have strange logic.

~ Falling into the Bottom 5, we have MAX/Gnash – Lights Down Low. I'm still really impressed with how well this song did here. It's been strong for over a year now. That time might unfortunately be coming to an end soon. Hopefully it did enough to lock itself into Hits 1's Top 45 of 2018 after (barely) missing their Top 45 of 2017.

~ As far as the exit goes, we lost No Roots. It's really not a big loss, at least in my opinion. To reclarify, I don't hate the song. I just find it to be not very interesting. I dislike it, but I don't think it's necessarily a bad song if that makes any sense. I can perfectly understand why people like it. It's just not my personal taste I guess. But whatever. It didn't do so well here, which doesn't really surprise me too much.

  1. First, and gotta agree with High Hopes, so far it's been my favorite new song over the past week, and it has some success, it's in the top 3 on iTunes, and I hope it does well, maybe give Panic! a top 40 or so hit that they need.

    2. I would prefer Say Amen to be a hit but this would be fine as one.

    3. I think High Hopes should be a hit.

  4. 1. That throwback pick.

    2. Why have you been putting red songs in the mediocre tier? I don’t understand that too well and I think they belong in either the bad or crap tier.

    3. I am really digging Delicate now, and I would really love to see it hit #1 in the future. Want You Back is a good choice as well.

    1. I haven’t listened to it. I literally listen to the same four SiriusXM stations all the time (Hits 1, Venus, The Pulse, and Alt Nation).

    2. I looked up what it is but I can't find the chart of those 101 songs. Where can I see it?

      Delete
    3. I think they’re airing it right now over the weekend. They may post it somewhere later? Idk.

      Delete
    4. You can see what they play on DSR. They’re channel 17 (even though it says SiriusXM Love).

    5. Did that, and THIS PLAYLIST IS AMAZING! There are many of my all-time favorites that they're playing and a bunch more classics alongside that. Whoever had the idea to make this awesome countdown is a genius.

      Delete
    6. Woah that playlist is great. I may have to start listening to that lol.

      Delete
    7. No it's not, this playlist is awful, except for Venus and Z100. But the rest is plain awful.

      Delete
    8. Have you even listened to any of those songs? I assume most bloggers here haven’t because most are from the 90s and 2000s.

And I also plan on doing the difficult task of making a top 10 or 20 from that countdown. I might post it here afterwards if anyone’s interested.

  21. So, two things:
    1. While I was on my way home earlier tonight, California Gurls came on. And in the second verse, they had the line "We got Hits 1 on the stereo". Something like that. Kinda reminds me of what they did with Cheap Thrills xD

    2. Stanley Cup Finals Game 2 about to start. Game 1 was a fun watch, and showed that this has the potential to be a great series. If I HAD to choose, I think the Capitals deserve it more, but I'll be happy if the Knights win, too. (Sorry Miles)

  26. I’m sure not many were looking forward to this. But Florida Georgia Line released a couple new songs today.

Also another mediocre Maroon 5 song is #1 on iTunes. And it was rereleased with Cardi B while the original is at #6. :/

  27. So... Who saw JR Smith's epic fail against the Warriors last night? "I thought we were ahead." "I knew we were tied, thought we were gonna call a timeout."

That cost the Cavs Game 1. Not a good sign for them at all. Golden State is gonna win it all again unless the Cavs pull an epic rally.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes! I was like "Wtf are you on JR". I was rooting for the Cavs since there in the east and I'm tired of seeing the overpowered Golden State team winning.

    2. It must have been heartbreaking for you to watch the Cavs narrowly scrape it out against your Celtics, though. Especially when they were up 3-2. I legit thought they had a chance.

    2. That's because Never Be the Same wasn't in the top 20. If it still was, Adrian would have taken a point off. It it was still at #1, like it was the week of May 5th (http://siriusxmhits1weekendcountdown.blogspot.com/2018/05/camila-cabello-1-week-of-may-5-2018.html), he'd take 2 points off.

  47. So after yesterday's relatively unexpected 6-2 win against the Golden Knights, the Capitals are now 3-1 and one win away from winning their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. I'm sure Miles was mad with the score.

That being said, while I can't see Vegas rallying back from a 3-1 deficit, I can see them winning at least one more game. They're heading back home, and they've done well to reach this point. But this may very well be the point their Cinderella story strikes 12.

    1. Remember, in 2016 the Cubs were down 3-1 deficit, and then managed to win the World Series, the phrase anything can happen still exists for a reason.
