Bebe Rexha (1) – Week Of April 28, 2018

Hey guys! So as you probably know if you read my last post, this past Wednesday was my birthday. I'm 19 years old for those that don't know. So yeah. New Entrants
~ This week we have the return of Post Malone with Psycho featuring Ty Dolla $ign. I'm really not a big fan of this guy. I'll admit that Rockstar has grown on me recently and it has gotten more tolerable, though 21 Savage's verse is still pretty bad. But Psycho just doesn't have very much to it that makes it stand out. It's kind of boring in terms of the production. I'll admit that Post Malone's vocals are not necessarily bad. But the song is just not that interesting in my opinion and I don't really see the appeal. There are so many good songs that get underrated, particularly in the alternative/rock category, because bland and mediocre songs like this for some reason appeal to younger audiences. I'm hoping this rap obsession in the U.S. can end soon. Psycho is not the worst thing ever, but it's not exactly helping the genre.

~ Next we have Halsey with Alone. I've only listened to the rerelease with Big Sean and Stefflon Don. But I'm assuming the original is not that much different. I've been kinda losing respect for Halsey lately, especially after the whole hotel shampoo argument she started on Twitter. But I try not to let that affect my thoughts on the music. I think Alone is pretty good, mainly because I'm tired of hearing Bad At Love. It's kinda catchy and I like her vocals. But I feel like this is not something that will stick with me in the long run. But for now, I think it's pretty good.

Best Debut of the Week: Halsey – Alone

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list.

  • Dustin Atlas/Erin Bowman – Fake Friends
  • Sugarland/Taylor Swift – Babe
  • Kendrick Lamar, SZA – All The Stars
  • Ariana Grande – No Tears Left To Cry
  • In Real Life – Tattoo (How 'Bout You)
  • Maren Morris – Rich
  • Why Don't We – Trust Fund Baby
  • Foster The People – Sit Next To Me
  • The Chainsmokers – Everybody Hates Me
  • Liam Payne/J Balvin – Familiar
  • Dua Lipa – IDGAF
  • Sam Smith/Logic – Pray
  • HRVY – Personal
  • Echosmith – Over My Head
  • Hundred Handed – Too Good

Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. TIE: Foster The People – Sit Next To Me
1. TIE: Kendrick Lamar/SZA – All The Stars
3. Liam Payne/J Balvin – Familiar
4. Sugarland/Taylor Swift – Babe
5. Sam Smith/Logic – Pray

Meant To Blurb
~ And just like that, we finally have a new #1 song in the form of Meant To Be. I'm sure not many are thrilled by this. But I'm just happy it's not The Middle. That one has spent more than enough time at the top. It's time to let some other songs have a chance. So I'm pleased with this choice.

~ Rising to #2 we have Want You Back. I do like this song and I wouldn't mind it being #1. But it's not actually that big anywhere else, which shows Hits 1's bias towards 5 Seconds Of Summer and I don't really like how they tend to favor some artists over others. But it is a good song and I'd take it at #1 over The Middle any day.

~ So I listened to the remix of Never Be The Same with Kane Brown and it is better than the original, though not by much. Kane Brown has a nice contribution and I like his vocals. But Camila's voice is still hard to listen to. I think the song would be a lot better if Kane Brown took over the whole thing because Camila's vocals is one of the biggest issues with the song.

~ Tell Me You Love Me and These Days made some nice jumps into the Top 15. I'm glad these songs are getting some love. Zombie is also back up at #14, which is really good. Hopefully this can stick around longer.

~ Not very often do I go from disliking a song to liking the song so suddenly. But that's pretty much what happened with God's Plan. I heard it air on the countdown last weekend and I just suddenly started enjoying it. It's actually a pretty good song. It's nothing amazing, but now I can see the appeal and why it spent such a long time at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

~ Not much really happened in the lower end of the countdown. The massive drop from Say Something was rather annoying. This song is a bigger hit than the majority of the songs ranked above it. It truly is an amazing song and it's unfortunate that it's been treated poorly these past few months. Seriously, it spent the majority of its time between #28 and around #35 and only spent one week in the Top 20. I get that it's different from your typical pop song, but that does not mean it's bad.

~ As far as the exits go, Hold Me Tight Or Don't lasted longer than I thought it would. Hopefully this is the last song Hits 1 pulls from MANIA, because that album is just not good. Woman was definitely underrated and deserved better. I'm glad it spent one week in the Top 10, but it left too soon in my opinion.

Not only that, but between the J. Cole and Post Malone album bombs, it might get knocked off the Hot 100 and come just short of the Year-End list.

    2. I listened to the Kane Brown version on my local radio station last Sunday night, so there's that. Also, this is still going by Adrian put NBTS in orange and Hits 1 only plays the solo version.

    3. Also Want You Back definitely isn’t his favourite song in the top 20

  19. This Week in Billboard Chart History: In 2006, Rihanna Scored Her First Hot 100 No. 1 With 'SOS'

Plus, remembering feats by Eagles, Ricky Martin & Roxette.

    May 7, 1977
The Eagles' "Hotel California" checked into the Billboard Hot 100's top spot, becoming the band's fourth of five total leaders. According to its singer and co-writer, Don Henley, despite the countless rumors about the song's meaning, it's simply about a "journey from innocence to experience, that's all."

    May 8, 1999
We were goin' crazy for Ricky Martin's "Livin' La Vida Loca," as the song began a five-week domination of the Billboard Hot 100.

    May 9, 1970
The Guess Who began a three-week command of the Billboard Hot 100 with "American Woman," backed with B-side "(No Sugar Tonight)." Lenny Kravitz later covered "American Woman," taking his version to the top 10 on both Mainstream Rock Songs and Alternative Songs charts in 1999.

    May 10, 1986
They didn't work in a pet shop – and thankfully so, since they make pretty good musicians. England's Pet Shop Boys danced to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with their debut smash, "West End Girls." The pair continues to pad its legacy, in 2016 having scored its first No. 1 on Top Dance/Electronic Albums, Super, in more than 13 years, while it’s the set's first single, "The Pop Kids, became its 11th career No. 1 on Dance Club Songs.

    May 11, 1991
Sweden's most famous musical duo, Roxette, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Joyride." The album from the pair also produced the No. 2-peaking "Fading Like a Flower (Every Time You Leave)" and the top 40 hits "Spending My Time" and "Church of Your Heart."

    May 12, 1984
Before there was Adele's … Lionel Richie's "Hello" hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first of two weeks.

    May 13, 2006
Rihanna reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time with "SOS." Amazingly, she's added 13 more No. 1s since then, tallying the third-most total leaders (14) in the chart's 59-year history. Among all acts, only the Beatles (20) and Mariah Carey (18) have more.

All The Stars is kinda fading on me :P but I won't fade on it enough to hate it when it debuts.

    4. One, Rivers Cuomo is from the band Weezer, two you seriously do not need to rank everything, and three, seriously just listen to all the songs to get an accurate idea of how good/bad/mediocre the songs are, don't just say "I didn't listen to them and didn't put them in the ranking" I ranked the top 20 of the Hot 100 and forced myself to listen a bunch of J. Cole and I did it fine, why can't you?

      Delete
    5. I actually prefer Ryan singing in Sober Up other than Rivers but I find it weird how Hits 1 plays that version.

  28. Well, Scott. Your Sixers won yesterday's game against the Celtics, so your hopes are still alive. Maybe they'll somehow force a Game 7 and win it, I don't know.

And LeBron and company are heading to the Conference Finals for yet another year. They just got through sweeping the Raptors. Yup.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yep, saw that game. It would be quite a task, considering no team in NBA playoff history has come back from a 0-3 deficit to win. But we can still hope. And even if we don't, there's still next year where we'll have a stronger roster (including LeBron potentially joining, if he doesn't join the Lakers). And the Phillies won in a blowout yesterday as well, so it's super close between them and the Braves for the NL East right about now.

And on other news, the Pittsburgh Penguins lost against the Washington Capitals, ending their series on a 4-2 run. The Capitals managed to serve justice for the last two years. Not only that, but of the five remaining teams - the Lightning, Capitals, Predators, Jets, and Golden Knights - the very former are the only ones who have won a Stanley Cup. So if they lose, this will guarantee a first time winner, which would be pretty awesome.

      Delete
    2. I am upset and angry at the fact we lost in the second round to a team we beaten twice, and now as a result I hope Washington gets beaten by Tampa Bay, and I'm going all the way for Vegas.

If anyone's interested in joining another music forum, here's one for you. I've been looking for more people from here to join for a while now, as a lot of us (me, Dylan, Graham, ., and some more I'm probably forgetting) are on there. There's chart talk, fun games, and everything, so if you like music talk come join the fun!

(sorry if I've tried to do this before, but we seriously need new recruits)

    1. I haven't posted there much at all recently. I do still read the chart discussion, though.

    2. No don't, a lot of the people on there are terrible, rude, awful, mean, nasty, and straightup unbearable. I should know first hand, a lot of people on their (Not Parker and them the others who've been around much longer) are some of the rudest, meanest, and take everything far too seriously.

      Delete
    3. They haven't been THAT bad to me but the problem is they think I'm a dupe and that I'm actually Miles. :P

      Delete
    4. Considering the fact I was banned for saying I Don't was a fourth rate Beyonce song and that it was sad and pathetic for Mariah, says leaps and bounds how terrible some of them are.

      Delete
    5. This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.

    6. Miles: Well, technically speaking you weren’t banned for that comment. You had 5 warnings before, and the one for that post was your 6th which got you banned. And if you haven’t heard already, Dylan got suspended for a week for saying on a Kacey Musgraves thread, “This, country? Back to the rock threads” or something like that.

But either way, the newer people here deserve a chance to join there, because who knows, they may really love it. And there are definitely more goods than bads, so it would be good to try it.

      Delete
    7. So, it was still unnecessary and not ban worthy. And in what way were any of my warnings ban worthy, because I spoke my mind on the politics thread, and they got triggered because I had a different mindset from their left-wing hivemind? Face it, you know that they are awful humans, especially when they all speak ill-will about new people every day, do you forget that someone made Pulse confessional on Tumblr and it was the crudest, dumbest, and meanest thing ever, to the point where it was straight-up cyberbullying. Fuck that, and fuck the idiots on that site who prefer to be smug, snarky little bastard that care more for being right and think no one deserves second chances.

      Delete
    8. Dylan: Chase’s comment was just completely irrelevant and had nothing to do with any of this.

      Delete
    9. Oops, my mistake. I should say good news guys.

      Delete
    10. Miles: I actually agree with all of that for the most part. I said one thing and also said I like AJR and everyone there turns into whiny bitches who don't know what opinions are. The thing I got suspended for was completely bullshit and was in no way trolling. Only because of things I did, people now think that I'm secretly you and that is just because you got banned. No matter what I do to try and explain people still think I'm a dupe and that is bullshit. The only reason I am still there is because of Parker and maybe two other people that treat me with the respect a human being deserves.

      Delete
    11. If I were you I would just delete my account, there is no use talking to them, especially if most of them don't believe you. It's no fun, the people there are rude, ignorant, and stuck-up pompous assholes.

      Delete
    12. That would be the reasonable thing to do. But I won't. I know it sounds stupid. Like I said, the people who like me are the reason why I stay. I'll admit I did make it a little harsh up there because it isn't THAT bad. Not say it's roses and gold either but I'll admit I do laugh once and a while. Probably half of the people I said that don't believe me are just joking around. It's sad that the people who like me aren't on Pulse a lot and stay on Discord. That's why I stay on the Discord server more often because that's when I and other people (who believe me) can actually talk about music.

      Delete
    13. There are a few good people I admit, some of whom I keep in touch with are on Discord, but most of the people who aren't on lame, annoying, rude bastards who act all high and mighty like and that they're right all the time, and I don't believe that they are joking around, and if I were to come around I would prove to them that you are not some dupe of me, but it'll never happen. People are so ignorant and rude they won't admit they're wrong.

      Delete
    14. Yeah unfortunately it may never end. Because if you don't get an immediate orgasm when you hear Mariah Carey you'll never be accepted in Pulse. I'm not going to let them win by just simply deleting my account. I won't even until I'm banned. (Which may happen my warning bar is at 50% :P)

      Delete
    15. So then what's the point? They ban you they win, you delete your account they win, frankly there is no point of being on Pulse unless you were a stan for every single pop girl out there. Again, pointless, and useless to stay on, especially if your being treated like shit, and the mods are no help either.

      Delete
    16. I'll admit, the community there now is better than it was when you were there, Miles. There are a certain few newer posters that have been posting there a lot who have made it better than before. So don't be so quick to judge based on outdated information.

  49. Guys, I just heard the remix of Team by Noah Cyrus and MAX today, it was awesome. The original I haven't heard.

  52. I'm not doing the Hot 100 for this week. I just do not have the power or ability to coherently write how I feel about the Post Malone debuts. I can say I have heard the new Kanye West song Ye vs. The People and yeah it's bad, but not as bad as everyone else thinks it is. Still, probably my least favorite song from him, and this is from the same guy who sang Jesus Walks for crying out loud.

  57. I'm legit getting tired of Hits 1 playing songs during the week and still being on Hit-Bound. Fake Ass Friends is still there...I know it'll probably debut next week but seriously step up your game for Hit-Bound debuts.
