#1 Song This Week One Year Ago: Bruno Mars – That's What I Like (1)
Biggest DROP!!!... Of The Week: Walk The Moon – One Foot (–16)
Biggest Jump Of The Week: Panic! At The Disco – Say Amen (+16)
New Entrants
~ These first two entrants I really don't have much to say about. NOTD debuts with I Wanna Know featuring Bea Miller. The vocals are good and I like the production for the most part. But the drop is a little annoying. Other than that though, it's a good song. Zayn Malik makes his return with Let Me. The vocals are good, but the production is underwhelming in my opinion. This is not as good as Dusk Till Dawn. But it is still better than Still Got Time. So that's something.
~ Our last entrant comes from Portugal. The Man as they bring their second song, Live In The Moment. Now if you're like me and you're just beyond tired of hearing Feel It Still, you'll probably like this new song. The production has more life to it and the vocals aren't so weird and high pitched. I think the song is very enjoyable and I'd say it's the best debut of the week. I can't picture myself getting sick of this very easily. Hopefully it has a reasonable amount of success.
Best Debut of the Week: Portugal. The Man – Live In The Moment

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list.
- Kendrick Lamar, SZA – All The Stars
- Foster The People – Sit Next To Me
- Hundred Handed – Too Good
- The Chainsmokers – Everybody Hates Me
- Why Don't We – Trust Fund Baby
- Echosmith – Over My Head
- Dua Lipa – IDGAF
- Maren Morris – Rich
- Dustin Atlas/Erin Bowman – Fake Friends
- Post Malone/Ty Dolla $ign – Psycho
- HRVY – Personal (DEBUT)
- Halsey – Alone
- In Real Life – Tattoo (How 'Bout You)
- Sam Smith/Logic – Pray
- Liam Payne/J Balvin – Familiar (DEBUT)
- Sugarland/Taylor Swift – Babe (DEBUT)
- Ariana Grande – No Tears Left To Cry (DEBUT)
~ First up we have Personal by HRVY. This is not new to Hits 1 as it's been trending on the YouTube15 for quite some time now. I'm not sure where or how Jenna Marbles finds these people. But she seems to always pick out the younger artists trying to make it big when they're still learning. I don't find Personal particularly interesting. It reminds me of Mine by Bazzi. This song is better and even though it's in red, it's a very light red. So it could change with time. But I'm not huge on the production here and I don't love his voice. But I do see potential in him.
~ Next we have Familiar. I'd be lying if I said I haven't listened to this several times within the past few days. This was definitely a grower since I didn't love it at first. It's very catchy and I love the Latin vibe. I like J Balvin's contribution. Liam doesn't annoy us with his falsetto. It's probably his best song so far.
~ Next we the song Babe by Sugarland. I wasn't huge on it at first. But I grew to enjoy it. I can appreciate a nice country song like this. Some of my friends just flat out hate country music. I'm not like that. I give every genre a chance. And I do like a handful of country songs. This one I think is pretty enjoyable. The vocals are good and the instrumentation is good as well. Taylor Swift's non-presence doesn't do very much for me. But I'm sure she's the reason this song is here. Overall, I like it. It's nothing amazing. But it's definitely something I'd listen to in my free time.
~ For some reason, I held off on listening to No Tears Left To Cry until today. I guess I just wanted to wait until I had a chance to talk about it. The song is okay. I like the beginning. But the rest of the song is just weird to me. Critics seem to love this, but it's not really doing anything for me. Her vocals are good, but I find her speak-rapping to be awkward. I don't know if Ariana is the kind of artist that can pull this off. It might be a grower, but for now it doesn't do anything for me.
Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Kendrick Lamar/SZA – All The Stars
2. Foster The People – Sit Next To Me
3. Liam Payne/J Balvin – Familiar
4. Sam Smith/Logic – Pray
5. Sugarland/Taylor Swift – Babe
Blurb In The Moment
~ Making an unexpected jump to #2 this week (here and on the American Top 40), we have Bebe Rexha/Florida Georgia Line – Meant To Be. I know I have the unpopular opinion, but I want this to hit #1 if it means we can get rid of The Middle from the top. Every song in the Top 10 (except #5) is a more worthy #1 song than The Middle.
~ Maroon 5 – Wait made a surprise jump into the Top 5, as did Camila Cabello – Never Be The Same. The former I guess is okay, though I would prefer if it weren't there. The latter however is not welcome. This song is annoying and I just don't see the appeal. She is not a good singer and I can guarantee if it hadn't been for Fifth Harmony, she would not be as successful as she is right now.
~ Panic! At The Disco – Say Amen made a big jump into the Top 10. Just goes to show how much Hits 1 loves their Brendon Urie. I'm pleased with this and I'm glad this song has been successful here so far.
~ Hailee Steinfeld/Florida Georgia Line – Let Me Go dropped out of the Top 10 a little unexpectedly. I am still impressed with how well it's done here, especially for a song that wasn't as huge everywhere else. I never expected it to last this long. I figured it would just debut and do poorly. Thankfully I was wrong. And I'm glad because this is arguably Hailee Steinfeld's best song so far.
~ Justin Timberlake/Chris Stapleton – Say Something finally made the jump into the Top 20. It's about time. Unfortunately I don't think it'll last long as its airplay has dropped significantly. But still, I'm glad it made the jump and spent at least one week in the Top 20. Bad Wolves – Zombie also made a nice return. Hopefully it sticks around.
~ Also making a small jump, we have AJR/Rivers Cuomo – Sober Up to my distaste. I still don't know why Hits 1 likes these guys. They're not very good singers, they're terrible songwriters, and they're awful producers. I think they need other people to step in because these guys going at it on their own clearly has not done them any good.
~ As far as the exits go, Young Dumb & Broke being underrated comes as no surprise. Love So Soft should've left a long time ago. For a song that's not good and never really made it that big, it lasted way too long here. I'll stick Kelly Clarkson's older work. (Happy Belated Birthday by the way Kelly!) And finally we have Lonely Girl. This song has been here for about four months and only peaked at #27 once. It debuted the same week as Good Old Days (I know, crazy). The song didn't do anything for me. I actually forgot what it sounds like because I don't think I've listened to it since it debuted. It was always kind of just there. While I didn't necessarily like it, I do find how long it lasted to be somewhat impressive.

ReplyDeleteThat throwback pick tho. Hard to believe it's been two years since Prince sadly passed on. I often hear his music while I'm at work. Yeah, he made really good music.
Anyway, Adrian I believe that The Middle might set a record for most weeks at #1 tying Hello and Shape of You.
ReplyDeleteThat’s not setting a record if it ties.
DeleteOops, sorry.
DeleteYeah, no I'd rather The Middle over the pop-country trash that is Meant To Be. If there was a song I would like to replace it however, it'd be Say Amen, Delicate, Pray For Me or Whatever It Takes,
ReplyDeleteHere are the exits:

Some of the countdown so far:
45. Feel It Still
44. Let You Down
43. End Game
42. How Long
41. Wolves
40. Say Something (Biggest Drop) (Ugh, no :/)
39. Good Old Days
Hopefully, someone (and again, someone other than Chase, please?) can cover the rest while I'm at work.
Pretty sure you can get it off of DogStarRadio if necessary.
DeleteGoing off of that. These should all be correct:
Delete38. Beautiful Trauma
37. Havana
36. Lights Down Low
35. No Roots
34. Psycho (debut)
33. Live In The Moment
32. I Wanna Know
31. Sober Up
30. Bad At Love
29. Hurt Somebody
28. God's Plan
27. Perfect
26. Let Me
25. Let Me Go
24. Finesse
23. Done For Me
22. Alone (debut)
21. One Foot
20. Mine

16. No Excuses
15. I Like Me Better

Umm, go away and never come back you idiot.

DeleteActually, I don’t want to leave.
DeleteYeah, well all of us want you to leave because you've been nothing more than an annoying burden.
DeleteThe only way I can leave is when I don’t feel like blogging anymore.
DeleteSo don't blog then.
Delete@ATR Celebrate. It’s a good song.
DeleteNot to mention there’s a bigger problem. Meant To Be is #1. #CountryPopTrapGarbage
Deleteswegawaffle, he's not @ATR, he's ATR.
DeleteChase shut up
Deleteswegawaffle: Thank you for correcting my name, but that's not nice what you told me to do.
Deletehttp://mymusicreviewingblog.blogspot.com/2018/04/personal-chart-42818-no-roots-2.html
ReplyDeleteSecond to last set of five:
ReplyDelete10. On The Loose
9. Pray For Me
8. Delicate
7. Him & I
6. Wait
5. Never Be The Same
ReplyDelete4. Whatever It Takes
3. The Middle
That means our #1 will be either Meant To Be or Want You Back. Hopefully the latter!
So #2 is Want You Back.
ReplyDeleteThat means our #1 is Meant To Be by Florida Georgia Line and Bebe Rexha. Hopefully this one can get a shot at #1 soon!
That being said, I am starting to dislike Meant To Be less and less, not to the point that I'd call it great but to the point I'd call it listenable.
I’m sorry Montavis.
DeleteATR: His name is not Montavis, his name is Scott.
DeleteI’m just telling Montavis about that.
DeleteATR, you know his name is Scott, not Montavis. Montavis is busy right now.
DeleteBut before we get to that...
ReplyDelete#1 song this week one year ago: Paris by The Chainsmokers (1st and only week at #1)
I remember being all "wow, that came out of literally nowhere". I still like it quite a bit, although it being #1 caught me off-guard, even if only for one week.
Now how about the full countdown and Hit Bound?
ReplyDeleteAssuming all of this is correct...
Delete45. Feel It Still
44. Let You Down
43. End Game
42. How Long
41. Wolves
40. Say Something (THANK YOU HITS1)

11. Tell Me You Love Me
10. On The Loose
9. Pray For Me
8. Delicate
7. Him & I
6. Wait
5. Never Be The Same
4. Whatever It Takes
3. The Middle (hopefully this doesn’t make its return to the top)
2. Want You Back
1. Meant To Be (because of course it is!)
Don’t have Hit-Bound yet.
Zombie hasn't been #1 in weeks.

Deletehttp://kworb.net/pop/week.html
Over the past week Zombie has NOT been #1, To Tears Left To Cry was #1 for a week until a remix of NBTS came and knocked it out. Also, the iTunes website is hopelessly unreliable and stupid.
Also, if it was #1 for weeks on end, then why is it not in the top 40 or higher on the Hot 100???
Delete*No Tears Left To Cry.
DeleteBased on #5 in that image I can tell that's the iTunes chart in Canada, not the US.
DeletePlus your blog URL has .ca in it.
*looks at this week’s #1*
ReplyDeleteWell, as the song says, if it’s meant to be, it’ll be. #HatersStayMad
COUNTRY POP TRAP GARBAGE! That's what it is.
Delete^ couldn’t have said it better
DeleteI hate country music.
DeleteWell that #1 is shittier than The Middle.
ReplyDeleteWow I actually still like Meant To Be. :/
ReplyDeleteFun fact: not only does the song have Bebe Rexha, but it's called "Meant To Be" and uses the word "be" a total of 47 times in the song. Haha.
DeleteFake Friends sadly left HitBound, that’s my 2nd place LOP Award, I Miss You is better.

DeleteNo it didn’t, WAMB10. You can relax.
DeleteYes it did, ATR.
DeleteWhat’s the full Hit-Bound list?
ReplyDeleteIt’s the same as last week, but without Alone, Fake Friends, and Psycho.

Well Scott, the Celtics will face the Sixers after that game 7 win. This one will definitely be a good series to watch.
ReplyDeleteYep. I didn't catch the entire Game 7, as I was out for the first third of it and Guardians of the Galaxy was on FX at the same time, but I did catch bits and pieces of it. It was a close one and they had a shot. We'll see how it goes!
DeleteBad news guys: Never Be the Same is officially #1 at pop radio, dethroning The Middle.
ReplyDeleteHow is that bad? That’s good, it’s a better song.
DeleteWait a minute... The Middle is still #1 at pop radio.
DeleteThe Middle is still #1 on pop radio.

Also, this year's Radio Disney Music Awards nominations are out and voting is open until June 3rd, in anticipation for the show itself on Saturday, June 23rd, live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood! Here's your link: http://partners.disney.com/rdma-vote
He's not gonna rank NBTS as a -1, nor would he rank Meant To Be as #1, among other things. Also, your predictions are almost certainly wrong, and completely unnecessary and more or less reflect your OWN top 20 ranking, which I bet you haven't listened to some of them.
DeleteI haven't memorized exactly in what order Adrian ranked these songs, but I hope I predicted the number of points he gave each song right. If Say Something was in the top 20 this week, he would have given it 6 points.
DeleteThat's my blog post? And your whole -1 thing is stupid if you're also doing 6 points for the best song.
DeleteYou should open up your own blog if you are going to do these random Top 20 reviews.
DeletePosts like these are just to sub for Adrian should he not post in time. Speaking of which, where is he?
DeleteHe's busy with college, in case your young and dumb brain doesn't know this, he's 19 and has college work which is more important than some music blog like this. Him blogging is a hobby, not a job.
DeleteAnd Dylan is right, why don't you just get your own blog then?
I'm 18 and I'm finishing up secondary school, hence why I get a bit more time on my hands. And I'm quite bad at blogging, so you can't blame me for trying, but you'd know I'd be lying saying... (Halsey reference, obviously)
DeleteAre you British, because of the fact that you said secondary school, which gave it away?
DeleteCanada.
DeleteMy Top 20 Reviews have been looking pretty similar these past few weeks. So it can be assumed that it won't look that different this week either, making your prediction relatively inaccurate.
DeleteEvery song you put in the crap category is actually just bad. Never Be The Same is only song I'd consider crap. And all the songs you put in the good category are actually just decent.
Other than that, the rankings look wrong for the most part. I can guarantee you it'll look pretty similar to how I had it this week, with a few changes obviously since songs jumped in and dropped out.
Then why aren't the songs you call "Bad" in turquoise or "Decent" in pink?
DeleteEach category doesn't exactly get its own color. I only do that for the Year-End posts for visual purposes. For weekly posts, I go by what sounds logical.
DeleteTypically this is how it goes:
0 – Crap: Red/Orange
1 – Bad: Red (could possibly be orange but unlikely)
2 – Mediocre: Turquoise/Yellow/Pink (could be red on rare occasions)
3 – Decent: Blue
4 – Good: Green
5 – Great: Green
BONUS: 6 – Best Song On The Countdown: Purple
It seems confusing, which is why I don't color-code the Top 20 Reviews. Also keep in mind that the color-code came long before the Top 20 Review. So I'm not going to change it just for the Top 20 Review if that makes any sense.
So my point is that the Top 20 Reviews cannot be predicted accurately by simply using the color-code.
DeleteUh oh, Post Malone's "beerbongs & bentleys" is pacing for 160K US pure sales, 450K US total units, so it might debut #1 on both Billboard Top Album Sales & Billboard 200 charts.
DeleteNew on Hits 1:
ReplyDeleteParamore - Rose Colored Boy
Yes, I knew that would happen. Rose-Colored Boy is on Hits 1.
DeleteThis weeks' Billboard Top 10:
ReplyDelete1. Nice For What (Drake is not tied with Elton John with third most weeks among males, and tied either overall)
2. God's Plan
3. No Tears Left To Cry (#1 on sales with 100K downloads, #5 on streaming, #35 on radio, ties with Rihanna and Lady Gaga for 6th among acts for most top 10 debuts)
4. Meant To Be (Still #1 on radio)
5. Psycho (I do expect the release of Beerbongs & Bentleys to prop it up a bit higher, maybe)
6. ATM (Album bomb from J. Cole, largely due to streaming)
7. The Middle
8. Kevin's Heart
9. Look Alive
10. KOD
This week in Billboard Chart History:
April 30, 1983
A week after Dexy's Midnight Runners ended Michael Jackson's seven-week command of the Billboard Hot 100 with "Billie Jean," the King of Pop returned to the throne with "Beat It," which would lead for three weeks.
May 1, 2010
B.o.B and Bruno Mars each earned their first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1, as the rapper and featured singer, respectively, rose 2-1 with "Nothin' On You." The collab marked the first Hot 100 entry for each artist.
May 2, 1987
British band Cutting Crew topped the Billboard Hot 100 on its first try with "(I Just) Died in Your Arms," which flew 5-1.
May 3, 2003
A key indicator that American Idol finalists could graduate to post-show sales success: Kelly Clarkson debuted atop the Billboard 200 with her first album, Thankful. She's added seven more top five sets since.
May 4, 1996
How did Mariah Carey follow up the longest-leading hit in Billboard Hot 100 history? With another No. 1! After "One Sweet Day," with Boyz II Men, held the top spot for 16 weeks in 1995-96 (a record tied in 2017 by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito," featuring Justin Bieber), "Always Be My Baby" ascended to the summit for a two-week command. The song became her 11th of 18 No. 1s, the most among soloists.
May 5, 1990
Before there was "Finesse" by Bruno Mars and Cardi B, new jack swing ruled the charts in its original heyday, as one of the sound's forefathers, trio Bell Biv DeVoe, led Hot R&B Hip-Hop Songs with its debut hit, "Poison."
May 6, 2006
Who said they couldn't cross over to a new home? After notching four No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 beginning in 1986, Bon Jovi topped Hot Country Songs in its first visit to the genre chart with "Who Says You Can't Go Home," the band's duet with Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles.
*I meant that Drake is tied with Elton John
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
Delete*Tied for 8th among artists with the most weeks at #1, with Mariah at #1 with 79 weeks and Drake and Elton at 34.
DeleteHeh, I literally just heard a solo version of Meant To Be on Venus. I can now say that Florida Georgia Line isn’t the only reason it’s so bad lol. It’s now just pop-trap garbage instead of country-pop-trap garbage.
ReplyDeleteWhat??? I just grew back into Meant to Be.
DeleteYay at Nice For What being #1 again! That song is my jam now! I haven’t listened to the new J. Cole album yet but I probably will soon.
ReplyDeleteI listened to J. Cole's new song, "KOD." It sounded amazing!!!
DeleteAnd ugh, Nice for What needs to go away, and replace it with No Tears Left to Cry. I hate it already. It sucks!
DeleteHow about no!
DeleteHey Leah, I saw that you changed your profile pic.
ReplyDeleteHere it is ATR:

DeleteDylan, don't do that, that's not nice.
DeleteAnd by the way Adrian, I love your new post.
DeleteChase: I don't give a fuck about what YOU think.
DeleteNot gonna review it, I don't listen to J Cole.
DeleteNo one asked. And your response doesn’t surprise me.
DeleteDylan: First of all, apologize to me and say I'm sorry.
DeleteZachary: I love J. Cole, he's amazing!
Adrian: I think this post looks great.

ReplyDeleteSo in regards to Avengers Infinity War (I haven’t seen it yet), seems Spectrum Pulse wasn’t exactly thrilled by it. I didn’t watch the review but he says to watch to see his final thoughts. Watch with caution!

You seriously do not need to rank the top 20 every time I post it and more about the Hot 100. Also, seriously there is no point to having a -1 and 6, they just off set each other, and what's the point of having a top 20 ranking if you don't even rank half of them?
DeleteHow is 35% a D+
DeleteRead those scorings on the right sidebar.
DeleteWhat’s the point of doing a Top 20 Review if you’re going to listen to only 8 songs?
DeleteUmm...maybe I should check MUCH more often?
DeleteLmao if he doesn't want to listen to the new J. Cole album he doesn't have to. But if he wants to do a good top 20 review, listening to just those songs wouldn't be a bad idea.
DeleteGuys, I've got good news!!! Anne-Marie's next single is called "2002," and it will be impacting pop radio. It has been added by Radio Disney, so is Loote's "Your Side of the Bed."
DeleteWait... 2002 was released on April 20 as her next single.
DeleteReal good news guys, Selena Gomez is releasing a new single on May 10 called "Back to You" from 13 Reasons Why soundtrack. It will impact pop radio stations on May 15.
DeleteAnd Zachary, you really should post a weekend countdown like mine.
Delete^Why can’t all of this be in one comment???

I've only listened to Rose-Colored Boy. The latter two I've never even heard of.
No songs have been removed, our at least I couldn't find them.
Yay for the first two although broken is surprising.

DeleteAnd by the way Leah, how did you call yourself The Dubber? Also, you know that profile pic? That’s what I’m talking about.
DeleteATR, it's none of your business.
DeleteOops, my mistake. I shouldn't say that to him, that's not nice.
DeleteI’m glad you asked! I do Fandubs of my favourite anime on YouTube! Also, I didn’t noticed it goes for google plus too so it’s kinda embarrassing
DeleteBig news guys: Camila Cabello's "Never Be the Same" will be #1 on pop radio, dethroning ZEDD's "The Middle."
ReplyDeleteEven more big news: Ariana Grande will be releasing her new album called "Sweetener" on July 20, 2018. So stay tuned for her new album.
DeleteSo I just listened James Dean and...this is actually really good! Hits 1 picks up on a lot of random artists but this one could be the good one. By that I mean it could actually get popular somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteI never heard James Dean yet. I'll take a listen.
DeleteThanks for waiting!
