New Entrants
~ Hits 1 just can't get enough of Ed Sheeran. He brings his fourth song on the countdown this week, Perfect, which as far as I know is the first time (at least in a while) that an artist has more than three songs on the countdown at one time. But anyway, this song is fantastic. It's a beautiful love song that really highlights Ed Sheeran's talent not only as a songwriter, but as a vocalist as well. I can see this as a great song for the start of a relationship. Then Thinking Out Loud would be a great choice when things get a bit more serious and you've spent a lot of time together. I have no doubt that Perfect will do well on the countdown, especially since it's a pretty big hit right now.
~ Next we have Fergie with You Already Know featuring Nicki Minaj. I much preferred Fergie when she was in The Black Eyed Peas. Her solo music is not that great (at least the recent stuff). This song actually took several listens for me to really enjoy it and even now, I consider it to be a little bit of a guilty pleasure. Nicki Minaj's verse is easily the best part of the song. If you were to take that out, the song would be almost nothing. So that's kind of what's keeping it in green right now. It's definitely a strange song overall. The one thing I can give it though is that it isn't as big of a mess as M.I.L.F.$. I don't see this song doing very well here and frankly, I don't really care too much. It's one of those songs that's kind of just there.
~ Finally, we have Evaride with Heartless. I've been really enjoying this song for the past couple of days. It has this pop-rock feel that I really like. The lyrical content is good. Their vocals shine very nicely. All in all, it's a really good song and I'm glad it was able to make its debut here. Here's to hoping it does well.

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list:
- Lauv – I Like Me Better
- Harry Styles – Kiwi (DEBUT)
- Dua Lipa – New Rules
- Macklemore/Kesha – Good Old Days (DEBUT)
- X Ambassadors – Ahead of Myself
- Liam Payne – Bedroom Floor (DEBUT)
- Zayn/Sia – Dusk Till Dawn
- Imagine Dragons – Whatever It Takes (DEBUT)
- Post Malone/21 Savage – Rockstar
- Niall Horan – Too Much To Ask
- Bruno Mars – Chunky
- The Shadowboxers – Hot Damn (DEBUT)
- Bebe Rexha/Florida Georgia Line – Meant To Be
- Nick Jonas – Find You
~ First up, we have Harry Styles with Kiwi. As I've said before, I really like this style of music he's chosen. I think it works very well for him. Kiwi is definitely an enjoyable song and, in my opinion, better than Two Ghosts. It has more to it.
~ I don't think Good Old Days is as good as Glorious. But it does have great lyrical content and Kesha sounds great in the chorus. But I think the lyrics are what stand out the most and it's songs like this that remind me why I love Macklemore. I really do hope this one debuts.
~ Bedroom Floor is definitely better than Strip That Down in terms of the production. The lyrics are still as uninteresting as before. Liam's falsetto isn't bad, but I don't think it should be taking up such a large portion of the song. Overall, it's not the worst thing I've ever heard. It's better than Strip That Down and Get Low, so that's something. But it's not something I want to see become a hit.
~ Now this is what I want to hear from Imagine Dragons. Whatever It Takes is definitely one of the best songs off of Evolve and I'm so happy it's the next single. I love the way it starts and it has a great chorus to it. It makes songs like Thunder look mediocre (I still like it though). I'll talk more about it when it debuts, but this is definitely something I'm enjoying right now.
~ The Shadowboxers – Hot Damn is enjoyable in a way. It does seem a little underwhelming in certain parts. But I was able to get into the majority of it. It's in green right now, but it could possibly change to blue just because it's not exactly a great song. But who knows? My opinion could change with more listens.
~ We lost two songs this week: Why Don't We – Something Different and PRETTYMUCH – Would You Mind. The latter I never really cared for. But I'm a little disappointed by the former. With time and more listens, it actually became a good song. It would've been nice to see it on the countdown.
Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Imagine Dragons – Whatever It Takes
2. Macklemore/Kesha – Good Old Days
3. X Ambassadors – Ahead Of Myself
4. Bebe Rexha/Florida Georgia Line – Meant To Be
5. Niall Horan – Too Much To Ask
Blurbless
~ Not very much happened with the Top 5 except for the jump from Portugal. The Man – Feel It Still. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing this as a future #1 song. It'd be nice to have an alternative song that's not from Imagine Dragons make it to the top of the countdown.
~ Aside from Feel It Still, we welcome What Lovers Do into the Top 10 as well as welcoming back Look What You Made Me Do into the Top 10. I can accept both even though Look What You Made Me Do is fading on me. But it's fine for now as long as it doesn't get any higher.
~ Charlie Puth – How Long took a pretty big jump this week. It has definitely gotten better after listening to it several more times. And I really enjoyed that music video. That aside, very good song.
~ After having spent a very long time in the Top 10, Shawn Mendes – There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back has finally dropped out and allowed another song to take its place. Don't get me wrong. I still like the song. But I think it's about time to let another song have a place in the Top 10.
~ The Script – Rain had a nice recovery jump this week after having dropped last week. Hopefully this means it'll stay for a little while. It's not exactly one of the biggest hits right now, but it's nice when we can get some songs that are more adult contemporary (like songs you'd hear on SiriusXM The Pulse). Besides, The Script used to be pretty successful on more mainstream charts. That shouldn't just end all of a sudden. They're still a good band.
~ The Chainsmokers/Coldplay – Something Just Like This took a little bit of a drop out of the Top 20. Frankly, I'm just happy that it was successful. It had a very run and spent quite a while in the Top 10. So I'm happy with that.
~ Camila Cabello – Havana continues to slowly drop. I'm not too surprised since her last song didn't do very well here. I wouldn't be too disappointed if this one flopped. But I also wouldn't mind if it did well.
~ I'm not too happy about the drop from 1-800-273-8255. But I shouldn't be surprised because Hits 1 always underrates really good songs. Like I always say, at least it was here.
~ As far as the exits go, L.A. Devotee was starting to fade on me. But I did really enjoy it while it was here. Good riddance to both Fetish and Get Low. Thankfully neither of them lasted long and they both did nothing but drop.

ReplyDeleteThat most missed pick. To make it simple, Stand By You is basically everything I love about Rachel Platten, period. Also, that throwback pick. Yeah, I still love it to this day, and it's easily Katy Perry's best.
I agree. I just read your post with your Top 10 Songs of 2016 and I was pleased to see Stand By You at #1. It is a really good song. The vocals, the production, the chorus, the lyrics. Everything about it is just great. :)
DeleteAnd yeah. Teenage Dream is one of my favorites from Katy Perry as well.
Just a question: besides the debuts on Hit-Bound, what are your thoughts on some of these songs outside of Hits 1?
ReplyDeleteOlivia Holt - Generous
Daya - New
Taylor Swift - Gorgeous
Fifth Harmony - He Like That
Lorde - Homemade Dynamite
Calvin Harris featuring Kehlani and Lil Yatchy - Faking It
Blackbear - Do Re Mi
Wait a minute Adrian...
ReplyDeleteWhy is I Like Me Better in red?
I'm not him, but if I were to guess, I think he just finds I Like Me Better too underwhelming.
DeleteWhen will I Like Me Better debut the countdown?
DeleteNice post! I think The Shadowboxers - Hot Damn in a way reminds me of The 1975 - The Sound. I am starting to grow out of Galway Girl. It just is not that appealing anymore. Why Don´t We - Something Different was a great song and it saddened me that it left. PRETTYMUCH - Would You Mind is decent as well. One more thing, why do you suddenly hate Lauv - I Like Me Better?
ReplyDeleteAdrian doesn’t hate I Like Me Better. He just finds this song too underwhelming.
DeleteWhat are you thoughts on these songs?
ReplyDeleteWhy Don´t We - These Girls
Why Don´t We - Invitation
PRETTYMUCH - Teacher
Cheat Codes featurng Fetty Wap & CVBZ - Feels Great
Maroon 5 featuring Julia Michaels - Help Me Out
Maroon 5 featuring A$AP Rocky - Whiskey
DJ Snake featuring Lauv - A Different Way
I'm not Adrian, but these are my opinions on the songs:
ReplyDeleteGenerous (8/10)
New (8.5/10)
Gorgeous (9/10)
He Like That (7/10)
Homemade Dynamite (10/10)
Faking It (9.5/10)
Do Re Mi (5/10)
Feels Great (8.5/10)
Help Me Out (9.5/10)
A Different Way (7/10)
Haven't heard the rest.

Not gonna happen, The Cure, Shape of You, and Back to You will leave this week. And Kiwi, Too Much to Ask and Bedroom Floor will all debut this week.
DeleteWait a minute, Shape of You isn't leaving this week.
DeleteAnd Sorry Not Sorry will be #1 this week, not Thunder.

DeleteDON’T DELETE ATR’S COMMENT.
DeleteGuys, we don't know if Sorry Not Sorry is going to hit #1 this week. You all need to chill.
DeleteAnd ATR, please don't overreact.
He’s not going to overreact.
DeleteWait a minute, I was right Kiwi, Bedroom Floor, and Too Much to Ask aren't debuting the countdown this week. So no new entrants this week on the countdown.
DeleteWow, the verses in Save Me A Place suck, especially the guys vocals. It's like an overload of auto-tune and so many other vocal effects, to the point he sounds robotic. The chorus is easily the bets part, and the production is good, but this guy's voice is fucking awful though. It totally ruins the song for me. I'll stick to the chorus, thank you very much.
ReplyDeleteSo, I'm guessing this song is more in the blue/red for you? (If you were doing blog posts)
DeleteI agree with Miles. Besides the verses, it's a good song.
DeleteWell considering that his "name" is Dr. Robot, I'm pretty sure this was done on purpose.
DeleteDr. Robot? Who is he?

ReplyDeleteI meant MotorSport.
DeleteHi everybody.
ReplyDelete#1 Recommendation For Hits 1: Kane Brown/Lauren Alaina - What Ifs
ReplyDeleteThat’s a country song. Just mocking you.
DeleteActually, that country song hit the Top 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart so it will be on Hits 1 soon.
Delete#1 Recommendation for Hits 1: TWICE - LIKEY
DeleteIt is a good song.

The billboard Hot 100 is as inactive as this comment section
DeleteI'm definitely happy to see Perfect there. Easily my new favorite song in the Top 10. Sadly, it looks like it's gonna miss the year-end list by a hair. =( There is still the chance that it could get extremely lucky, but given its weak streaming presence, I doubt it. But it'll be a lock for next year's, so there's that.
DeleteIf I'm going to be honest, 2017 is one of the most inactive years in music. Just look at summer. Despacito only got 16 weeks because there were no other songs to challenge it. Wild Thoughts was definitely not a challenger. Finally, when it got dethroned, so far only three songs hit #1 after (LWYMMD, Bodak Yellow, and rockstar). the taste of music we got was not as good. Sure there were good songs, but none stood out. That's all I have to say...
DeleteMi Gente, please jump to #1!!!
Delete@RedDog: Not to mention all the low peaking songs that’ll be on the Year-End list (No Promises, Drowning, etcetera).
DeleteMontavis: It's not North America's fault, it's just America.
DeleteRedDog: Yeah, 16 weeks, which is the longest since One Sweet Day achieved the same feat in 1996.
RedDog: Yeah I didn´t like this year at all.
DeleteMiles: You know, America implies South America also. Or are you too stupid to know where that is?
DeleteI'm talking about America as in the United States, you dumbass.
DeleteMiles, please stop!!!
Delete“Or are you too stupid to know where that is?“
DeleteOne thing isn’t for SURE: I am not.

ReplyDelete#1 Recommendation for Hits 1: Kenny Chesney/Taylor Swift - Big Star
ReplyDeleteThat’s a country song.
Delete-Remy
I think it will debut.
DeleteWow Look What You Made Me Do is basically bleeding hard already down to 25
ReplyDeleteYeah, I heard. How very disappointing. It's a shame that one won't be as big as Closer.
DeleteEither way, I'm not thrilled that we let Post Malone spend another week at the top. Blech. Seriously, guys. Why can't we have an artist like Rachel Platten blow up for once? Or Lorde? Maybe Carly Rae Jepsen, perhaps? Heck, I'll even take Meghan Trainor's music for once (even though it's not that good). Just get someone to dethrone Rockstar already, PLEASE?!
ReplyDeleteI would like the songs currently sitting at #3, #5, #4, or #10 at the top. But Lorde and Platten are good. Sadly for you, I still do like rockstar. Sorry.
DeleteI think Feel It Still might dethrone rockstar next week.
DeleteMontavis: Havana says hello.
DeleteMiles: I hope so. That one has a chance. In fact, it's been gaining a lot of steam lately.
