New Entrants
~ Oh would you look at that? No new entrants for the second week in a row. How fun. But considering that new entrant reviews are what take me the longest when making these posts, it actually helps me get this post out faster if there are no songs.
Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list:
- Noah Cyrus – Stay Together
- Paramore – Hard Times
- Bruno Mars – Versace On The Floor
- Julia Michaels – Uh Huh
- Ed Sheeran – Galway Girl (DEBUT)
- Macklemore/Skylar Grey – Glorious (DEBUT)
- Imagine Dragons – Thunder
- Katy Perry/Nicki Minaj – Swish Swish
- Carly Rae Jepsen – Cut To The Feeling
- All Time Low – Good Times
- Andy Grammer – Give Love (DEBUT)
- Camila Cabello – Crying In The Club
- Shawn Hook/Vanessa Hudgens – Reminding Me
- Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee/Justin Bieber – Despacito (DEBUT)
~ Galway Girl has this very interesting folk vibe to it that I'm really digging. It fits very nicely with Ed Sheeran's voice and it's very unique in my opinion. I'm looking to seeing how this one does. Macklemore is back after the amazing year he had in 2013 with Ryan Lewis. He's here with Skylar Grey on the track Glorious. I would say the song title speaks for the song itself. It's simply a glorious track. Macklemore does a very nice job on the verses and Skylar Grey simply steals the show with that chorus. Fantastic song.
~ Give Love is on the borderline between good and just decent. The chorus is catchy and all. But it just feels like another Andy Grammer that'll come and go similar to Good To Be Alive. There hasn't been very much of a memorable factor in his music lately. Finally, we have the long-awaited debut of Despacito. In my opinion, it's the better of the two big collabs with Justin. I'll speak more about it when it debuts, which will hopefully be soon considering that this song is already seriously late to the party.
~ We lost three songs this week: Wicked, Overwhelming, and Good Time Good Life. While all three songs are good, the only one I really cared for was Overwhelming. It would've been nice to see Jon Bellion have another hit. Oh well. Maybe another day.
Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. TIE: Carly Rae Jepsen – Cut To The Feeling
1. TIE: Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee/Justin Bieber – Despacito
3. Macklemore/Skylar Grey – Glorious
4. Katy Perry/Nicki Minaj – Swish Swish
5. Shawn Hook/Vanessa Hudgens – Reminding Me
I'm The Blurb
~ I'm very happy to see Something Just Like This manage to snag that #1 spot for a second week. Hopefully it can stay there a little longer. Considering that it's The Chainsmokers and all, I don't think it should have that much of a problem.
~ We have one new Top 10 entrant this week and that is Lady Gaga – The Cure. I'm very happy about this and hopefully it can stay there for a while and not just drop right back out. I mean, it got Issues out of the Top 10, which makes it even better.
~ Holding their spots at #'s 16 and 17, we have Now Or Never and That's What I Like. I've pretty much already gotten used to That's What I Like being here and being an annoyance. But for some reason, Now Or Never continues to aggravate me. That song is just really boring and underwhelming. It just goes to show that this song is really only here because hey, it's Halsey. It doesn't matter that she shows zero talent in this song. It just matters because it's her. And what annoys me is that it's actually worthy of being a Top 20 hit. I can't say her album is something I'll be enjoying if every track sounds similar to this.
~ Speaking of zero talent, we have Bad Liar holding at #19. As you can see, this song is now the worst song on the countdown. It was a serious competition and songs like Issues and Break My Heart came close. But it came down to Bad Liar and Weak. It's tough between these two songs. But I give Weak credit because it actually has stuff going on (even though it doesn't sound good). Also, I looked at the reviews on iTunes for Bad Liar and it has a large amount of negative reviews from some of her fans saying it's a huge step down from Stars Dance and Revival, which makes you wonder, "Who the hell is listening to this and making this a Top 20 hit in North America?" Whoever you are, just stop. If this does better than It Ain't Me, I'm gonna be pissed.
~ Miley Cyrus – Malibu jumps into the Top 20 this week shining some light into the darkness created by six songs in particular. Hopefully it continues to jump because this song does get better with each listen.
~ DNCE – Kissing Strangers jumps 10 spots this week into the Top 30. A little unexpected if you ask me. I'm not too happy about it, but I can live with it. Just as long as this song doesn't stay longer than it should.
~ I think Aaron Carter – Sooner Or Later has hit a new peak this week at #38. It's honestly sad that this song is doing this poorly. It is a solid track that deserves more recognition than this. We have a load of crap in the Top 20 and a well-produced track like this down at #38. Something's wrong here. Hits 1, get it together and fix this.
~ Fitz & The Tantrums – HandClap drops out of the Top 30 this week to #39. Seems like this song is starting to lose its steam. It's been here for a really long time so I am quite impressed and satisfied with its countdown run. At least it wasn't underrated like just about all their music.

ReplyDeleteBBH100 post is out.
Throwback pick of the week: Evanescence- Bring me to life
ReplyDeleteMost missed song: Demi Lovato : Cool for the summer
Throwback Pick: Katy Perry/Kanye West - ET (2011)
DeleteMost Missed Song: Hey Violet - Guys My Age
"Also, I looked at the reviews on iTunes for Bad Liar and it has a large amount of negative reviews from some of her fans saying it's a huge step down from Stars Dance and Revival, which makes you wonder, 'Who the hell is listening to this and making this a Top 20 hit in North America?'"
ReplyDeleteYou know, I read on Billboard that the single was her most acclaimed yet, and I was like, "Are they serious? Because every single person I've seen thinks it blows." ...Well, except a few critics who think it's just mediocre at best.
I read about it too. It's disappointing to see that it's her best song when there are people who disagree. Let's be honest here; there's really nothing to like about Bad Liar. It's just not the type of song I want from Selena. I know she can do better than this.
DeleteAnd more bad news: Bad Liar is in the Top 5 in iTunes.
#1 Recommendation For Hits 1: Machine Gun Kelly/Quavo/Ty Dolla $ign - Trap Paris
ReplyDeleteHe made it on here twice already. Why shouldn't this make it?
Because there are no pop artists involved in the song.
DeleteBut I'm The One is on the countdown and only one of the three artists is pop. Trap Paris is 20 times better than Bad Things and At My Best combined anyway.
DeleteI really think you say that because of the rap artists involved and absolutely nothing else. -_-
DeleteAnd most of the "rapping" in I'm The One you can decipher a pitch in, anyway.
Here's all my Lights Over Paris Awards since 2011 and for 2017 so far.
ReplyDelete2011: The Ready Set - Young Forever
2012: Selena Gomez - Hit The Lights
2013: 2 Chainz/Wiz Khalifa - We Own It
2014: Jake Miller - First Flight Home
2015: Steve Aoki/Moxie - I Love It When You Cry
2016: Alesso/Nico & Vinz - I Wanna Know
2017: Erin Bowman - Good Time Good Time
Yes for your 2013 pick! I didn't even know that made Hits 1.
DeleteYes it did. It just didn't make the countdown.
DeleteObviously, since it's the LOP award.
DeleteAs for mine, for 2015 it's probably something Jason Derulo like Drive You Crazy or Try Me. Not sure for 2016.
Alesso/ Nico & Vinz is awesome pick
DeleteMy lights over Paris award for 2015 is Shawn Mendes: Life of the party
DeleteGTGL is no longer eligible to be a Lights Over Paris Award as it debuted the countdown this week.
DeleteFor those of you who are looking for the 7 exit week, it won't be this week. Stay Together is a definite debut and Cut To The Feeling is possible.
ReplyDeleteWell at the moment, I'm in the car and Good Time, Good Life is on Hits 1.
DeleteCloser is slowly decelerating in spins.
ReplyDeleteNow, it's going back up...

Swalla shouldn't be on the Wutchuwant Countdown. :/
ReplyDeleteYes it should

Delete#1 Recommendation for Hits 1: Flight School/Angeline - One Day
ReplyDeleteWhat do you say?
DeleteBad Liar is everything wrong with mainstream pop right now. Painfully Uninventive, bland, boring, lazy, overly repetitive ( not to mention auto tuned to hell ) it's garbage I hate it
ReplyDeleteI'm so with you there. Almost nothing about this song is worth listening to.
DeleteI'm finally out of school!
ReplyDeleteMe too, I'm now going to be in my final year of high school.
DeleteHas anyone seen the new Ellie Goulding music video for Something In The Way You Move. Which is crazy because the single dropped a year ago and I wish it became a massive hit but never did :(.
ReplyDeleteI just did. It is interesting how it was released now long after the song was popular. I also wish it was a bigger hit. It did end up being my #3 favorite song of 2016. Ellie Goulding never disappoints. She's one of those rare pop artists that consistently impresses me with every release.
DeleteI agree with this as well, it's hard for her to fail for me.
DeleteWonder if the same will be the case for Something Just Like This, which four months later still only has a lyric video and not an official one. And since I don't think they've announced the next real single from the album, you'd think they would have made one for it by now.
DeleteCoincidentally, both songs start with the word "something".

ReplyDeleteThe Chainsmokers Musical. xP
That moment when I'm getting in the car with my parents, and my dad puts on Hits 1, and Body Like A Back Road is playing...but in the last like 15 seconds of it.
ReplyDeleteThen immediately after, Taylor Swift introduces Something Just Like This as Most Wutchuwanted.
That happened yesterday evening just as we were leaving home to head to the train station in the city. Quite the refresher.

ReplyDeleteYou know, Parker, you're always giving us crap for not respecting your opinions that you force down our throats, and here you are coming off as hypocritical, LITERALLY trying to force someone to like the songs for absolutely no reason.
I think that's pretty fucking sad.
You're still complaining even after willapted33 roasted you? 🤔
DeleteHow is that "forcing" someone to like the songs? Changing a post is only supposed to state that you disagree, and when someone posts that, everyone is usually okay with it. Besides you.
DeleteWhat did he do? Based on the link all he did was say he was hoping songs made the year end list. I don't see anything wrong with that.
DeleteGraham, it's that someone said that two songs were one of their least favorite songs, and Parker said "I shall fix that" basically misquoting what the guy said and instead of least favorite, he made it say favorite of 2017.
DeleteCan you honestly blame me for thinking he was trying to force people to like the songs? :/
DeleteI can't take this. This is doing absolutely NOTHING but reinforcing my decision to stop, and it may be the end for good if it keeps up.
BTW, Adrian, there's one other thing I wanted to say regarding Bad Liar. I said on Jack's page that it would be Gold all over again, meaning you hate this song so much while Jack is in love with it. And as it turns out, I was proven to be correct. Just to give you the heads up.
ReplyDeleteGood Time Good Life may have re entered HitBound this week.

So I was scrolling through the iTunes Charts today and something caught my eye. I Don't Fuck With You by Big Sean and E-40 is up at #80. Is there a reason for this other than it was discounted to 69 cents? There were other discounted older songs up there (CFMF, The Hills, She Will Be Loved) but this was the highest.
ReplyDeleteNot complaining though. Love the song. And Magnolia was discounted too!
Oh, that's why it somehow jumped into the top 30 this week.

#1 Recommendation for Hits 1: Kendrick Lamar - HUMBLE.
ReplyDeleteAlso, do you know what song Crying In The Club reminds me of?
ReplyDeleteI'll tell you. That song reminds me of Sia/Sean Paul - Cheap Thrills. Do you know why it reminds me of this song?
ReplyDeleteNo, because you haven't fucking explained it at all!
DeleteBecause of the beginning.
DeleteWhy do you hate Stay Together?
ReplyDeleteThank you for that orange pick. The song sucks.
ReplyDeleteI hate Crying In the Club even more, hopefully for obvious reasons.
Sorry, but I heard that song on the radio the other day and I really like it.

Fo me, there is a stretch near the beginning where everything is 0/5 and then another stretch where everything is 5/5. Seriuosly that is a very larg coincidence
