Hey guys! Hopefully, you liked the little joke I did with that last post. But now I bring to you the actual countdown. I apologize for posting it this late. New Entrants
~ Our lone new entrant comes from Ariana Grande with the assistance of Future on the track Everyday. I believe that Ariana has hit a new peak of mediocreness*. This is nothing we haven't heard before. Of course she has to bring in a new mystery man on the chorus similar to Problem and Focus, making this the Problem 3.0. The lyrical content seems very pointless to me. And honestly, I do not like that part after the second and third chorus when she does the "la-la-la-la-la-la...." Just not a fan of her voice at that moment. Ariana is definitely a good singer. However, the mediocre production and lyrical content killed her on this track. Here's to hoping this does not become a hit.

*Totally just made up that word

  1. So, if I'm not mistaken, Starving is the first song to be in orange that was in green formerly since... This Is What You Came For, I think (that one was very briefly in green). Huh.

    1. I believe that is correct. As of right now, I believe Charli XCX - Boom Clap is the only song to have been in both purple and orange within its time on the countdown.

      Delete
    2. I don't even accept Starving in orange, but Good Time, Good Life is in green.

      Delete
    3. That's true because in his opinion, Boom Clap was in purple for its 3rd week and then orange for its last 3 weeks.

      Delete
  2. You forgot to put a last week position for Unsteady and your "crap" songs in your top 20 review should be -1 as the worst song on the countdown. I don't even know how you grew out of Starving that fast. Of course Overwhelming is in your Hit-Bound top 5 picks because it's Jon Bellion (duh), and I'm surprised Green Light is in red, I think you're the only one here that doesn't like that song. My mom also doesn't like that song.

    1. - Oops. Too lazy to fix it though.
      - I don't do -1. I added 6 as a bonus so that the total score could increase a little bit. Having a -1 just balances it out again and it's as if it's just 0 to 5.
      - Let's just say Starving should not still be this high.
      - I'm planning on giving a review for Green Light sometime in the next few weeks. Ideally I'd like to wait until it debuts. But that might change.

  3. #50Friday news (chart will be up before noon EST tomorrow):
    -0 exits
-1 debut, permanently raising the chart to 50 songs.
    -1 top 5 entrant
    -1 top 10 entrant
-6 drops of at least 7 spots (that's a large drop for my chart lol)
    -Obvious biggest jump

  4. Wait a minute.....

Why is That's What I Like in orange?

You know, Mars is one of my Mom's favorite pop singers.

    1. I think it's safe to say that over half the reason he hates it - and the title track for that matter - is because he's still too jaded by how overplayed Uptown Funk was to appreciate Bruno Mars right about now.

      Delete
    2. Or he'd rather have Bruno's older stuff like Just The Way You Are and Grenade, because he thinks Bruno has become some wannabe rapper doing way too many throwback type songs. Honestly, I don't see it.

      Delete
    3. Well the fact that he approved both of those comments I'd say is a sign that both of those are a factor.

  5. 29. Treat You Better

Seriously, why is this still in the top 30?

      Delete
    4. When I say the American charts, I'm talking about the Hot 100. Little Mix cannot get a top 40 hit because their record label doesn't know how to sell these girls over here, and because people think No Harmony is better, which is total bullshit.

Yeah, but remember when I half-assed my top 10 bets of 2016, I feel that by doing a top 50, (By the way if I do a top 50, I'm splitting it into two) it'll be much harder to work on and I won't be able to make it sound all that presentable. And besides, you guys already know what my #1 would be.

  27. So Adrian, here's a question I have for you: by now some people have seen me - and I'm sure others - call Say You Won't Let Go virtually the same song as Thinking Out Loud. Since it's pretty obvious that song will never be anything but in the Crap tier for you again, what makes Say You Won't Let Go different?

GOOD RIDDANCE to Bad and Boujee! I'm not thrilled that it was traded for Body Like A Back Road, though, but we also traded IDWLF and interchangeable Drake for Rockabye and Kendrick. 70. Well guys, if you weren't sure before, you will be now when I say this. Some of you may have already seen it on Pulse Music Board, but here it is. (space gap for spoiler)

Shape Of You has finally peaked in airplay. Peak audience of 247.2. Looks like it's not passing Uptown Funk's 248.9. And with how much That's What I Like has on it, looks like it's closing in on that #1 spot, unless it ends up being 7 Years all over again.

  71. The remix for Hymn for the Weekend is annoying. And I only hate that song now because of f**king overplay.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah I only like the original.

      Delete
    2. Overplay is not a generaally good reason to hate a song over.

      Delete
    3. There is no right or wrong answer to that Miles!

      Delete
    4. Yes it is, and overplay should be the overall deciding factor to hate a song.

      Delete
    5. Seriously, it's not the end of the world if someone hates a song by overplay! There seriously should be no right or wrong answer to this. What I believe has no right or wrong answer. What you believe also has no right or wrong answer, but it is NOT acceptable to rant on my thoughts because it's what you believe.

      Delete
    6. The only one ranting is you. Just because a song is on the radio every day, it does not make it a bad song on that merit alone. Songs should be judged by what's in it, the vocals, production, lyrics, and the tone the song is trying to set. The only one to blame because of the overplay is the radio DJ's and radio stations that play the same type of song nonstop.

      Delete
    7. What I was trying to say by "What you believe also has no right or wrong answer" was that I respect your opinion on if a song should be hated by overplay. But you're the one who's not respecting MY opinion on this. It's embarrasing enough that there are still people here that don't know how to respect an opinion, but it's even more embarrasing that these people are legal adults.

      Delete
    8. All I'm saying is saying a song is bad because of overplay alone is a fucking stupid reason. And would it kill you to stop fucking bringing up respect of opinion and stop defending everyone and let them defend themselves?

      Delete
    9. Guys, there is nothing wrong with hating a song because of overplay. It's okay to hate a song just because of overplay. Even I have used to like songs such as Scars to Your Beautiful and Bad Things, and just because they get played like a billion times on my local radio station just makes me want to hate it. And yes, Miles, you've hated songs such as Treat You Better, Unsteady, and Cheap Thrills all because of overplay. And yes, you can hate songs because of overplay, and overplay should be considered a factor in grading songs just because.

      Delete
    10. I do not hate Treat You Better because of overplay at all, I used to like it begrudgingly, until the album finally dropped and saw that both this song, the album, and Shawn Mendes really do suck.

Unsteady falls in the same category, until I figured it was a boring, sloppily produced track, with a trap percussion over a slow, plotting beat. The only good thing was the lyrical content, but even that seems somewhat vague.

Here's the problem with Cheap Thrills. The annoying child in the chorus! And I mostly talk about the original version because it doesn't have Sean Paul, the one with Sean Paul is the one I like, even if the whole down tempo tropical house vibe has been done to death in the past year or so.

Bad Things was bad to begin with, especially since it was a generic, bland white rapper with a shitty ass vocalist teaming up to make some slow, plotting rap/R&B mix this side of Mariah's hip-hop era, which is the worst thing ever.

The message for Scars To Your Beautiful may be good, but my God that percussion over melody is sickening!

      Delete
    11. If the whole overplay critique doesn't make sense to you guys yet, let me put it to you this way: when the Year-End Hot 100 for 2015 dropped, what was your reaction to seeing Uptown Funk at #1 like we all knew it would be? Do you think it didn't deserve it? If so, your reasoning for that was because you never cared for the song (much) in the first place. Not only that, but when the Decade-End Hot 100 drops in December 2019 (which I'm sure some of you have seen the predictions for on Pulse Music Boards), it's all but guaranteed to be #2 behind Party Rock Anthem (Closer will probably be #3, it would have to get extremely lucky to pass it at the rate it's dropping). What will your reaction be when THAT happens?

I mean, can you really justify saying that an otherwise excellent song doesn't deserve to be the #1 song of the year - and among the highest honors of the entire decade - because of something that just about every song that hits #1 goes through? If your answer to that question is yes, then that's just sad. I mean, you can get tired of a song, sure, but whether you do or not, don't pretend that it doesn't deserve credit.

I think that makes a good case for what me and Miles are trying to express.

      Delete
    12. ^^^This is the best argument so far. And before you start going off on me, yes I'll admit to being a victim of hating a song solely because of overplay. But with time, I've grown to realize that it's not really a legitimate reason to flat out hate a song. At least not on its own. That's why I've tried to be careful lately about what songs I say I hate and I think to myself, "Do I hate this because it's a bad song or because it's been overplayed?" If the former, then that's a legitimate reason.

The things I've said about Uptown Funk, Shut Up and Dance, Radioactive, Demons, etc. I'm not proud of. None of them are bad songs. Sure, they were overplayed and I got pretty tired of them. But deep down, they're still good songs and deserve credit. Overplay on its own should not make you flat out hate a song.

    4. Stop being a fucking white knight and defending everyone then maybe I'd actually be nice.

    5. Yeah Lukas, it's There He Go. Right when I thought it was dead, the album release gave it more recognition.

  78. I apologize if I offended anyone here today. I really just want everyone's opinions to be safe here and I don't think it's fair to hate on anyone's opinions. I mean...everyone here is equal, right? I'm sorry if I was mean today, but I just can't take this. I tried to back away from all these comment section issues, but I just couldn't. You know, most of us came here because all our parents (except if you're Scott or Montavis) bought cars that had SiriusXM with it and in that car you find a perfect pop station with a weekly countdown...that means we all have a shared liking for music and this countdown, meaning that this was a place to talk about exactly that. This wasn't a place to be mean. This wasn't a place to hate on people's opinions. This wasn't a place that was supposed to have comment moderation. But this was a place to discuss music and the countdown that we all love as well as some other stuff. The exact reason why sites like Pulse Music Boards have rules is to be a safe place. I did not come to this blog to be mean and I did not want to be mean here. I do and will respect everyone's opinion here. So why not just be nice? It's without a doubt better than being mean.

I understand if this was too long or I'm saying this all the time. I just want this to be a better place for all of us and I'm sure you do too. I honestly don't want this comment to get lost in the sea of rants about this comment section. I would like if this could get a reply discussing this, but please make it nice. If you read this entirely, thank you. That means a lot to me. :)

  79. So I definitely heard Green Light a couple times in recent days and yet it doesn't sound like it's debuting this weekend. Darn it.

I am looking forward to Slide debuting though.

  81. So... Remember how I said that I wasn't wild about The Chainsmokers' debut album? Wanna see another critic actually give it an in-depth take? And see a bunch of agreeing comments too? Here you go. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yQmTP4ulkE
