Adele (1) – Week Of August 27, 2016

There really isn't that much going on in the land of music at the moment. Tomorrow night is the MTV Video Music Awards. So I'm probably going to watch that even though the performance lineup doesn't excite me very much. Because of that, I'm not going to do a review. Plus, I'm also really busy and I have other posts that I'm behind on that I need to work on. I may give some short opinions in the comment section. But this year, it doesn't seem like something worthy of an entire post. No songs leaving the countdown this week. So let's get right into the countdown.

Setting The Blurbs On Fire
~ Huh. Adele at #1. I guess it could be worse. I'm very thankful that Ride has hit such a peak and I hope to god that it never will. I'd like to see it start dropping the next couple of weeks.

~ Speaking of Adele, I've been listening to Rumor Has It quite a few times this week and I did hear Set Fire To The Rain one morning earlier this week on Hits 1. It's really these two songs that I like to hear from Adele. Send My Love is just simply not as good in my opinion.

~ The 1975 – The Sound isn't necessarily Top 10-worthy. I still find this one not very interesting and rather boring. But that's just me. Clearly there are people who really love this song enough to vote it into the Top 10.

~ In another Top 10 news, Ariana Grande – Into You managed to rise into the Top 10 pretty quickly. Now this one I can live with as opposed to the inferior Dangerous Woman, which thankfully has taken a drop out of the Top 30.

~ It's hard for me to process the fact that Nick Jonas/Tove Lo – Close is still here. Do people actually still listen to this song? I don't hate it (yet). But that's mainly because I haven't listened to this song in......I don't know......a couple of months?

~ I get rather annoyed when people say that Calvin Harris/Rihanna – This Is What You Came For is one of the songs of the summer. Speaking on the behalf of the EDM genre overall, I do have to say that This Is What You Came For is an embarrassment to EDM. It's kind of sad that a lazier drop like the one used in this song is what will grab peoples' attention instead of a really cool, energetic drop like the ones used in Summer and Blame.

~ I'm not exactly okay with X Ambassadors – Unsteady hitting the same peak as Renegades. Not just because I'm sick of this song, but the song itself is just not as good. I actually disliked Unsteady at first and it took me a while to actually grow into the song, whereas with Renegades, I pretty much loved it ever since the first listen. I mean, the least this station could do is play the Erich Lee Gravity remix from the Me Before You soundtrack as I do think that one is more interesting and brings a little more life to the song.

~ Jacob Whitesides – Lovesick took a nice jump into the Top 20. I do indeed find myself singing the chorus of this song to myself at the most random times. I'm serious when I say that this chorus is pretty infectious.

~ Thankfully, Selena Gomez – Kill Em With Kindness did not make it as big as her previous singles. Now it's just a matter of getting it out of the countdown as it is taking up a spot that could occupied by a better song.

~ Timeflies – Once In A While made a nice comeback after being last week's Biggest DROP!!!.... of the Week. I do still enjoy this song and I think it deserves the love its been getting on this countdown.

~ So The Chainsmokers/Halsey – Closer has apparently hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. While I'm kind of shocked about it, I'm definitely happy about it. It really does deserve this kind of success. While it may not be as good as Roses, I still find it to be really catchy and I'll be jamming out to it for a while.

~ The Hit 45 Chart is once again being worked on. I'm hoping this doesn't become a new thing for this chart to be late every week. But every Friday, I am just exhausted from a busy week and I end up falling asleep earlier than I usually do. I'm hoping I can get the chart out tomorrow or Monday. So patience is key.

    1. Wow, a song going from red to green. I think that's the first song to do that since Rather Be in 2014? I could be wrong there, though...

Those that don't know, it became green because of a rendition that it had in one of the AGT performances.

      Delete
    2. Oh yeah, forgot, Shut Up and Dance went from red to green last September because of a school dance he attended. Well he finds that song at least tolerable nowadays, given that he's put it in turquoise and yellow when it's come up.

  3. I'm pretty much done with this countdown and pop music in general. I've never really liked Send My Love and I'm so pissed off about it hitting #1. I don't even care about Ride hitting #1 on the radio charts today. I'll probably start reviewing the Billboars Hot 100 every week even though you all hate my taste in music. I might review other hip hop/rap charts every now and then, but I'll just do the Hot 100 for now.

    51. Work From Home won best collaboration. The only one I would've liked to win was Freedom.

      Yeah, screw this.

    52. My mom's not happy about that either.

    53. To be fair, I didn't HATE Work From Home from day one, I though it was alright at first. I can't say this surprises me, but it doesn't excite me at all.

      Delete
    54. I've always hated it, to the same extent that Spectrum Pulse did when he gave it Worst debut of the week, alongside T-Shirt by Thomas Rhett, another terrible bro- "country" song I hate.

    55. They just performed Make Me.

I still can't remember how that damn song goes aside from that chorus.

And now Me, Myself and I with Britney subbing for Bebe. Wow.

      Delete
    56. And just like that.........Britney Spears and G-Eazy ended the streak of boring performances. A definite highlight.

      Delete
    57. Excerpt from my VMA performances review:

      Britney Spears/G-Eazy - Make Me/Me, Myself and I
This was really a well done performance, despite me not liking Me, Myself and I for the past month and not hearing Make Me enough.

  16. Also, at my draft tonight during dinner we had the Battle Of The Music, which is where we played songs on our phones and we kinda had a war over it. This one kid just played Sweatshirt and Hit Or Miss non-stop, this other guy had awesome songs like Get Ugly and Adventure Of A Lifetime in his library that he played, my friend hosting the party played Work through one of his speakers, and I played... guess what... (Adrian) DON'T MIND AND PANDA!!! Everyone was like "Those are the best songs ever! Even better than Sweatshirt!"
