Justin Timberlake (6) – Week Of July 30, 2016

So Can't Stop The Feeling is now our longest running #1 song this year. Not really surprising. Anyway, I start school in about two weeks. This is the time where I start asking myself where the hell my summer went because it feels like it went by way too damn quickly. Before we get to this week's Fresh 45, here are the songs we're saying goodbye to this week.

New Entrants
~ After failing to graduate from Hit-Bound in the past, Jacob Whitesides returns with a new song. This one is called Lovesick. He does have a rather unique and distinguishable voice. I do like the overall production on the track and I feel like that chorus will be something that gets stuck in my head. Overall, I definitely think this track is a keeper. We'll see how it does on the countdown.

~ Next up, we have Jordan Fisher – All About Us. I did love this song at first listen. But it did fade away on me just a tiny bit after a few more listens. Aside from that, I really like his voice and I think it'll sound great on future tracks. While I do like the overall song now, I don't think it'll stick with me for that long. I certainly won't remember it in a year from now, but for now I'm enjoying it.

~ It's official! I have found my new sex anthem! And it comes from one of the artists I least expected it from, Demi Lovato. She debuts this week with Body Say. The lyrical content to this song is just.......wow. I did not think I would hear a song like this from her. I'm actually quite impressed. She and her music has really changed ever since songs like Give Your Heart A Break, which I think is one of her best songs. But this song is straight up about sex. I love her voice as she pretty much has the best vocal range I've ever heard. Just listen to Heart Attack and you'll understand completely. Overall, I do love this song. It's the perfect song to have going in the background while having sex. I love it. That's all I have to say.

Hit-Bound
~ Here is the Hit-Bound list:

  • Fifth Harmony – All In My Head (Flex)
  • Andy Grammer – Fresh Eyes
  • Troye Sivan/Alessia Cara – Wild
  • The Strumbellas – Spirits
  • Ariana Grande – Into You
  • Flume/Kai – Never Be Like You
  • Twenty One Pilots – Heathens
  • AJR – I'm Not Famous
  • Coldplay/Beyoncé – Hymn For The Weekend
  • MKTO – Superstitious
  • Katy Perry – Rise
  • Steve Aoki & Boehm/Walk The Moon – Back 2 U
  • Magic! – Red Dress
  • Ben Rector – Brand New

~ Hits 1 had quite the infusion of current songs debuting on Hit-Bound this week.

~ All In My Head is okay. Fifth Harmony have done better.

~ Into You, while being better than Dangerous Woman, is nowhere near Ariana's best.

~ Fresh Eyes isn't anything special. It's kind of mediocre in my opinion. Maybe that'll change.

~ Superstitious is certainly a catchy song and MKTO never seem to fail at producing a catchy song.

~ I love the beat in Never Be Like You. The vocals aren't the best, but the beat is enough to make me a fan of the song.

~ Finally, the song that seems to be getting mixed reactions and opinions. That is Heathens by Twenty One Pilots. Overall, I do like this song. The darker, more mysterious feel and vibe that comes with it is certainly something I actually like. It's certainly better than Ride, which I still can't stand. But overall, I do like the song.

Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Coldplay – Hymn For The Weekend
2. Troye Sivan/Alessia Cara – Wild
3. MKTO – Superstitious
4. Flume/Kai – Never Be Like You
5. Steve Aoki & Boehm/Walk The Moon – Back 2 U

All About Blurbs
~ Red alert! Twenty One Pilots – Ride has reached a scary peak at #2 this week! I will gladly keep Can't Stop The Feeling at #1 over this song.

~ Daya – Sit Still, Look Pretty took a rather random and unexpected jump to #3 this week. I don't really know what to say about it. It's certainly not going to hit #1. But who knows? Randomness happens on this countdown all the time. Remember when Victorious re-entered and hit #1? I'm telling you, on this countdown anything can happen.

~ Unfortunately, I have to give OneRepublic – Wherever I Go the undeserving award of most underrated OneRepublic song. While this song may not have been the huge success I thought it'd be, it's still one of my favorites.

~ We have too many mediocre songs entering the Top 20 this week, one of which being legit trash. Yeah. I'm looking at you, Lukas Graham – Mama Said.

~ I'm not too surprised about the Top 10 debuts from Shawn Mendes – Treat You Better and Charlie Puth/Selena Gomez – We Don't Talk Anymore. Both artists have had their #1 songs, so it was expected that they would have more songs reaching the Top 10.

~ I'm very pleased with Selena Gomez – Kill Em With Kindness dropping out of the Top 30 this week. I really hope this song can leave soon. What would be a miracle is if this song and Hands To Myself leave the same week. That would be amazing.

~ So I kind of grew into All Time Low – Missing You. It still doesn't top Something's Gotta Give, but it's a nice song. So I'm enjoying it right now.

~ Looks like Taylor Swift – New Romantics is starting to decline on this countdown. I don't see any new Taylor Swift singles coming anytime soon. Thankfully I still like this song, so it won't be the end of the world if Hits 1 holds on to it for another months to enjoy what's left of Taylor.

~ Everything I just said in the last blurb is the same thing for One Direction – History.

~ I think that covers everything. Oh wait. I almost forgot. Rihanna/Drake – Work has finally taken the well deserved departure from the countdown!!! Depending on how the rest of the year goes, you will probably see this song in my Bottom 5 Songs of 2016.

~ The Hit 45 Chart for this week is out! Find out if Coldplay can hold at #1 for a second week in a row and an eleventh time overall with Hymn For The Weekend!

  1. Geez, I didn't expect you to grow into OneRepublic's new song so much it'd be your favorite song on the countdown.

I've noticed that you've been growing out of Me Too and Work From Home.

Is Hits 1 still using the SeeB remix of Hymn For The Weekend?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah. Repeated listens this past week just made me really enjoy the song. Plus it deserves a chance as my favorite song because it could possibly leave next week for all I know.

Me Too is kind of following the path of No. Meghan Trainor rarely has any good songs and the ones that are good fade away pretty quickly. Work From Home is also getting a little boring and I'm just tired of it after hearing it too much.

They probably are for all I know. They don't typically switch versions. I don't really care too much. I've grown to like the remix as well. But of course, it doesn't top the original.

      Delete
    2. Now we just need Hymn for the weekend to stay as a remix and to debut as that remix and i'll be really really REALLY happy!!!

      Delete
    3. It doesn't add much as a remix, in fact it does the opposite. It all it does is add EDM beat, but it takes away the vocalizations of Chris Martin and Beyoncé in the pre-chorus. You hear less of the band and Beyoncé and more of the SeeB production that takes over 70% of the song. SeeB may have saved I Took A Pill In Ibiza, but you just made a good Coldplay song worse in my opinion.

  3. Apparently, 2 NFL games are going to be airing against 2 presidential debates.

Monday September 26th, ESPN will air the Monday Night Football game featuring the Falcons vs. The Saints

Sunday October 9th, the second debate will air opposite the Sunday night game featuring the Giants vs. The Packers.

Quick poll: What would you rather see on those 2 nights?

    The NFL games
    or
    The Presidential Debates.

For me, I'd rather be entertained by watching football, not be bored by 2 old political hacks yell at each other for 2-3 hours.

  5. So My House stayed green its entire tenure, one of the few #1s (along with Love Me Like You Do from last year) to be a song you'd never get sick of. :P And your two blurbs on New Romantics and History... Well, let's just say that (the fact that they're the last we'll hear of those two acts for a while) is what's kept me from not liking them.

Two other things I'm surprised you didn't mention:
    - Spyder Harrison said that Don't Mind, your least favorite, was his current favorite. Make of that what you will.
    - I was the guest DJ who introduced The Sound, and gave the blog a mention alongside it. (= Those that missed it, I do have a recorded clip. I know you don't care for the song as much as I do, but it's one of my favorites so that was good (believe me, I would've been disappointed if I was introducing Me Too or Work From Home).

    1. There were a few songs for me that were green/purple throughout its tenure. Uptown Funk!, Hello, Love Me Like You Do, and Centuries.

I'll be a bit sad we won't be hearing anything new from Taylor for a while.

Where do I find the recorded clip, do you have it?

      Delete
    2. Unfortunately, I did miss hearing you Guest DJ because I don't always hear the entire countdown.

We don't need to go more into Spyder Harrison's favorite song...

  6. Hitbound review:

Fifth Harmony – All In My Head (Flex) - This song is just so freaking catchy that I just cannot resist!! Of course I'm annoyed about Hits 1 cutting out Fetty Wap, but hey, at least it's still here, right? (Purple)
Andy Grammer – Fresh Eyes - Haven't heard yet
Troye Sivan/Alessia Cara – Wild - This song is indeed pretty catchy, but Alessia Cara ruins it (Blue)
The Strumbellas – Spirits - My God this song sucks so bad. It'll take way too long to explain why (Orange)
Ariana Grande – Into You - Same as Adrian: Nowhere near Ariana's best, but definitely better than Dangerous Woman (Green)
Flume/Kai – Never Be Like You - I didn't like this song at first because of Kai, but I found the trap-soundings beat to be pretty catchy and this can be something I can jam out to every once in a while (Green)
Twenty One Pilots – Heathens - I can see why people like or dislike this, but I'm pretty split on it right now. Tyler Joseph's vocals somewhat appeal to me, but this song bores the crap out of me (Blue)
AJR – I'm Not Famous - I did listen to this song, and I have to admit that I like it, but it's nowhere near as good as I'm Ready (Green)
Coldplay/Beyoncé – Hymn For The Weekend - I finally grew into the remix a lot and I find it better than the original now (Green)
    MKTO – Superstitious - Haven't heard yet
Katy Perry – Rise - This is a good song even for someone who has despised 95% of Katy's music (Green)
    Steve Aoki & Boehm/Walk The Moon – Back 2 U - Haven't heard yet
Magic! – Red Dress - I can see all the hate for this song, but I personally love it. It's really catchy and Magic! did a really good job on the vocals (Green)
Ben Rector – Brand New - It's okay for now (Blue)

    My top 5 Hitbound:
    1. All In My Head (Flex)
    2. Hymn For The Weekend
    3. Into You
    4. Red Dress
    5. Rise

Now let's take song time and explain where I've been for the last few days and why I haven't been commenting as much. So on Tuesday night my friend and his mom came to our house from Georgia and he's spent the night at my house every night since Tuesday. He's leaving today at around 12 so then I'll be free to comment, because I was spending time with him during the day. So yeah.

  8. So, uh, good news: Lush Life was discounted to .69 on iTunes! Maybe this one will have a shot at US success after all.

Bad news: So was Work From Home. I swear, if this re-enters the Top 10 on the Hot 100, I will be disappointed. It's been in the Top 15 for all 21 weeks that it's been on the chart. Can it just lose steam already?

    1. ...And so was Once In A While. I doubt that song has any chance at making the Year-End Hot 100, but it would be nice to see it chart, and it could potentially make the Year-End Top 45 Countdown.

Axel F- I see all the hate for this song, but I find it to be so fucking catchy and a fun song to jam out to on the dancefloor.
Can't Hold Us- I've never been a huge fan of these guys, but this song was a masterpiece. I love Mackelmore's verses and Ray Dalton's chorus, and Ryan Lewis did a great job on the production as well.
Sing For The Moment- I love this song. I love the intro, Eminem's verses, and the chorus sampled from Aerosmith - Dream On, which was an amazing song.
The Real Slim Shady- This is definitely Eminem's best song out of all the ones I love from him. The beat, chorus, verses, and point are all just amazing and can't be topped. There is only one song out there that tops this one, and I'll reveal it when the full list is ready.

  28. This Week in Billboard Chart History: In 1988, Guns N' Roses Scored 'Sweet' Success Atop the Hot 100

"Sweet Child O' Mine" rocked to No. 1. Plus, remembering feats by Peter Cetera, Los Del Rio & Ricky Nelson

    Aug. 1, 1981
The day that MTV premiered, airing as its first video the thankfully-not-prophetic "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles. The song had been only a modest Billboard Hot 100 hit in 1979, reaching No. 40.

    Aug. 2, 1986
Thirty years ago: Peter Cetera's first solo single after leaving Chicago kicks to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100: ballad "Glory of Love," from The Karate Kid Part II, spends its first of two weeks on top. Notably, Chicago was inducted at last into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year, but Cetera did not attend, due to a reported impasse with the band about what it would perform.

    Aug. 3, 1996
Still remember the moves? Twenty years ago today, Los Del Rio's "Macarena" Hot 100 began a whopping 14-week command of the Billboard Hot 100, eventually earning the honor of the top single of all of 1996. In honor of the song's two-decade anniversary, Cuba's Gente de Zona has released a new version … featuring Los Del Rio.

    Aug. 4, 1958
Happy 58th birthday, Billboard Hot 100! The U.S. songs chart of record launched, ranking – as it does today – the most popular hits nationwide each week. Ricky Nelson's "Poor Little Fool" was the chart's first No. 1 song.

    Aug. 5, 2000
Following four career-opening top 10s (billed as by matchbox 20), matchbox twenty topped the Pop Songs airplay chart with "Bent." The group has earned seven top 10s on the chart, while frontman Rob Thomas has added two as a soloist.

    Aug. 6, 1988
Spurred by the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 "Sweet Child O' Mine," Guns N' Roses rocked to the top of the Billboard 200 in its 50th week with its classic breakthrough, Appetite for Destruction.

    Aug. 7, 2004
Ashlee Simpson's Autobiography bowed atop the Billboard 200. Take that, sis: Jessica Simpson has peaked at a high of "only" No. 2 on the chart, with In This Skin, also in 2004. Ashlee returned to the top with I Am Me in 2005.

      Delete
    5. The point is that it has nothing to do with the original comment.

      Delete
    6. Actually none of these comments have to do with my comment. I was hoping someone would have said something about 20 years since the Macarena hit #1, or the 58th anniversary of the Billboard Hot 100. I'm going to release a new post on August 4th to commemorate and review the greatest 100 songs of all time on the Billboard list.

  29. Adrian, what do you think of the Don't Mind remix with Pitbull and Lil Wayne in it? Is it better or worse than the original?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The remix is actually worse. I don't like Kent Jones' voice, but Lil Wayne's voice is 100x worse. So adding that in just makes a bad song even worse. Also, Pitbull does not belong in this genre of music. His verse adds nothing and is actually kind of painful to listen to. Stick to your typical dance-pop, Pitbull.

      Delete
    2. Remember how I called Don't Mind a Pitbull ripoff because it has Spanish? That remix makes that claim look kinda funny, but I think the better comparison would be Talk Dirty by Jason Derulo. Both songs about fucking foreign chicks. That's what some have called it; it's Talk Dirty all over again basically.

      Delete
    3. I like the remix but it's not as good as the original

  42. THE 31 QUESTIONS OF AUGUST

    Question #2:

What's the worse movie you've ever seen?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'll do my bottom 3:

      3. The Titanic- I do like this movie and the message to it, but my problem with it is that it bored the crap out of me. It's not bad I guess, but yeah.
      2. The Karate Kid- This movie was okay up until the ending, which was pointless and ruined the whole movie.
      1. Frozen- I hate this movie so much and I actually got sick when I watched it, no joke.

      Delete
    2. I've always wanted to see the movie, especially considering it's the 2nd highest grossing movie of all time, and house one of my favorite song, My Heart Will Go On.

I've heard the Karate Kid has become a cult classic, but 've never seen it.

I stopped caring about this movie. I think it is both the most overrated and the most over-hated movie of the current century.

See if you can guess why Son of The Mask is my least favorite movie.

      Delete
  43. And on another note of unconventional songs debuting...

Tiimmy Turner by Desiigner. Debuting at #46.

If this becomes a hit, I'll laugh.

Maybe CSTF won't be this week's #1 after all. But I hope it isn't SSLP, I'm sorry but that one has only been getting worse with every listen. Hits 1 is clearly in love with Daya right about now.
