Mike Posner (1) – Week Of June 25, 2016

Before we begin, I'd like to thank the voters for voting Mike Posner – I Took A Pill In Ibiza up to #1 this week. You guys are amazing and this song is amazing! If I never get sick of this song (which will probably end up happening), it's a really good contender for my Top 45 Songs of 2016! New Entrants
~ Our lone new entrant this week comes from (my celebrity crush) Shawn Mendes! This week he brings us Treat You Better, which is basically him telling some girl that he can treat her better than her current boyfriend, I guess. Shawn Mendes is one of those musicians who incorporates actual instruments in his music and I applaud him for that. Some of that shows on Treat You Better, but not as much as some of his other songs in the past. Treat You Better is a lot more radio-friendly. I do have to admit, it is really catchy. I think he did a very nice job vocally as well. Overall, I like this song, but it does not top some of his previous singles that got him to where he is today. I personally think songs like Stitches were better. This is all just my opinion though.

Lost Blurbs
~ Yikes! Ruth B. – Lost Boy pulled an Adam Lambert – Ghost Town dropping into the Bottom 5 on its second week. I do have to say, that's pretty harsh.

~ All Time Low – Missing You dropped as well even though it was Ear Poppin' Music this past week.

~ Sia/Sean Paul – Cheap Thrills is in the Top 10 on week 3. Pretty quick if you ask me. It makes me curious if this song will remain in the #6 to #10 area or peak somewhere in the Top 5.

~ Unfortunately, Twenty One Pilots – Ride jumped into the Top 10 this week. I still do not like this song and I really hope it doesn't stay in the Top 10 for a long time like Stressed Out.

~ It's really nice to see Selena Gomez – Hands To Myself have the Biggest DROP!!!... of the Week for the second week in a row.

~ It's really sad to see OneRepublic – Wherever I Go dropping already. It's a really good song. Seriously Hits 1???

~ Ariana Grande – Dangerous Woman is now in the Top 10. I still think it's a pretty mediocre song, so I would like if it started dropping soon.

~ Speaking of mediocre, Calvin Harris/Rihanna – This Is What You Came For is still hanging around in the teens. Frankly, this song is only getting worse after each listen. Why can't Hits 1 just underrate this song like they did with some of his previous songs that were more deserving of success? The constant repetition of the word "you" by Rihanna right after the drop is so painful to listen to.

~ Rihanna/Drake – Work is still here for whatever reason. This song is still complete trash and it is taking up space on this countdown that could be filled with a song more deserving of it. Seriously, what happened to the awesome and talented Rihanna I used to know? I never thought I'd hate a Rihanna song so much.

~ Along with voting I Took A Pill In Ibiza up to #1, I see you guys also voted P!nk – Just Like Fire up to the Top 3! Great things happened this week, and I thank you guys for that! It'd be awesome if Just Like Fire hit #1, but I'll let I Took A Pill In Ibiza have its reign first.

~ For those of you who don't look at this blog during the week, I did post my Top 10 favorite songs by Nicki Minaj earlier this week. You should go check it out if you haven't already.

~ The Hit 45 Chart for this week is out! Find out if Coldplay can hold at #1 for a fourth week in a row and a ninth time overall with Hymn For The Weekend!

Throwback Pick Of The Week: Fort Minor/Skylar Grey/Jonah Matranga – Where'd You Go

Most Missed Countdown Song: Cody Simpson – Pretty Brown Eyes

#1 Recommendation For Hits 1: Troye Sivan/Alessia Cara – Wild

Favorite Countdown Song This Week One Year Ago: Tie Between David Guetta/Nicki Minaj – Hey Mama and Nicki Minaj – The Night Is Still Young

My Top 5 Picks
1. Mike Posner – I Took A Pill In Ibiza
2. Charlie Puth/Selena Gomez – We Don't Talk Anymore
3. P!nk – Just Like Fire
4. Sia/Sean Paul – Cheap Thrills
5. Shawn Mendes – Treat You Better

  5. Don't let Me Down is an awful song. It'd right up there with No as the worst of the year. Also, it isn't the voters who rank the songs. It's the record labels and the station's GM or music/program director.

  7. On the note of Lost Boy, it seems you're being a little nice to a song you don't like. And if it fell from #38 to #42, that's not much of a drop. :P

For what you say on This Is What You Came For, that's kinda exactly how I feel about Kill 'Em With Kindness, even though I haven't turned that one red just yet. But I do like the changes to the Top 10.

And we both had the same favorite song yay ^_^ Not a whole lot of red, either, and that's good news. But yeah Work is overdue to leave.

  8. Nice post Adrian! I think I am the only one who lists' TIWYCF as a "bad" song but I can see you putting it in red in a few weeks.

  9. Well, I certainly don't mind the #1 song this week.

Finally, Work From Home has finally taken a hit out of the top 10. Now let's get it out of the top 20.

Did Toothbrush and Kill 'Em With Kindness really need to jump this week?

Please don't let Me Too jump into the top 20.

I don't really care about Wherever I Go. I'm actually glad its dropping.

Well, I'm pretty sure Graham is celebrating the fact that Roses is gone. Me, I'll be doing the exact opposite.

I'm glad to see Wild Things jumping a little. Hopefully it'll hit the top 20.

Looks like Just Like Fire is going to be a contender for the #1 spot.

Messin' Around finally took the hit I wanted it to take.

I really don't care about Treat You Better.

I'm actually quite glad to see Make Me Like You and Work still here despite lack of airplay. Keep on hanging in there!

    2. Or, maybe this is just the beginning of him leaving the band. First its signing a solo recording contract with Columbia, then he's on Twitter trashing the rest of the band, and finally he makes a video in the same way that Zayn did with Pillowtalk.

  29. So Adrian, two quick questions that I felt like asking:

    1. Do you use Twitter? I would think you do so you can inform people when you have updates, and vice versa.

    2. I know that back in April, you made an entry on your Top 10 favorite songs by Justin Timberlake, mentioning that it "had been a while since we've heard anything new from him". A month later, we got Can't Stop the Feeling, which makes that look pretty funny. You said you didn't find the song on par with his best works like Mirrors, but if you were to remake that list, would CSTF be on it?

    Thanks!

    1. 1. I have a Twitter, but I don't actually use it lol. I actually have two Twitter accounts: a personal account and an official account for this website (which I also rarely use). I should probably start using the latter again though. I may consider it.

      2. I do still feel like Can't Stop The Feeling does not come near Timberlake's best work such as Mirrors, SexyBack, Rock Your Body, etc. Right now if I redid the Top 10 list for his best songs, there's a decent chance Can't Stop The Feeling would appear. However, in let's say, two or three months from now when I'll be practically done with the song, then there's an extremely small chance it would appear in the list.

    4. *looks at putting Irresistible on his favorite Fall Out Boy songs list days after a countdown update where he had it in yellow* :P You also had Counting Stars as an honorable mention for OneRepublic even after it was (if memory serves) the #1 countdown song of 2014.

And I don't have a Twitter that I use for this, I have one but I use it for something else.

    1. You know, I wonder why iTunes lists it as "by Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa and Imagine Dragons", then says "featuring Logic, Ty Dolla $ign and X Ambassadors". The song's interesting for what it is, though.

Calvin Harris: Summer (that drop is unmistakable)
    Wiz Khalifa: See You Again
Meghan Trainor: Dear Future Husband (they're both dreck, but at least DFH I get the sense it's supposed to parody or something)
Nicki Minaj: The Night Is Still Young
    One Direction: Drag Me Down
Fifth Harmony: All In My Head (don't remember MMO)
Justin Bieber: Sorry (although I do like Luda's guest verse in the former)
Rebecca Black: Friday (I don't remember Saturday, and Friday can at least be laughed at)
    Ariana Grande: Into You
Zedd: Clarity (possibly my favorite song from 2013's Year-End Hot 100; I need to revisit that)
    Ke$ha: Tik Tok
Justin Timberlake: Can't Stop The Feeling
    Natasha Bedingfield: Unwritten
Twenty One Pilots: Tear In My Heart
Adele: Rolling In The Deep (as Todd In The Shadows said, Adele is one of those artists whose best work is just so good that it's very difficult to top)
    Mariah Carey: One Sweet Day
    Skillet: Rise
Fall Out Boy: Sugar, We're Going Down (tough decision)
Christina Aguilera: Genie In A Bottle
Maroon 5: This Love (although I do still like Sugar for its music video)
    Madonna: Like A Prayer (easy)
Nick Jonas: Jealous (I don't like either, but Jealous at least has that funny "chin music" line)

    Usher: Yeah! (no contest)

    1. Scott, you didn't choose between Blank Space and Love Story.

I'm slowly starting to like Me Too, and I'm starting to grow back into Dear Future Husband.

Miss Movin' On was Fifth Harmony's first single back in 2013.

Even Luda can't make up for the atrocity that is Baby.

Saturday was Rebecca mocking herself with an official sequel to Friday, guest starring YouTuber Dave Days. And I do think it was much better produced, her voice sounds better, and Dave Days is just great.

I'd say either Clarity, Catch My Breath, and Roar are my favorite songs of 2013.

I guess that is true. Billboard actually ranked Adele's 21 album as the #1 album of all time. And Rolling In The Deep was the #1 song of 2011.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one here who likes Mariah Carey.

Sugar We're Going Down is, and always will be Fall Out Boy's best.

This Love is considered a classic, but I prefer Sugar.

Madonna's best will always be Like A Prayer.

I prefer Close over the train wreck known as Jealous any day.

OMG is Usher's worst song, and it is such a shame. He's such a good artist, and yet he made music in 2010, a year I have mixed feelings for.

I was never a fan of Coldplay or Viva La Vida.

Do What U Want is the female Blurred Lines.

Thrift Shop is really great, and so is Downtown.

This Week in Billboard Chart History: In 1988, Michael Jackson Made History With His Fifth No. 1 From 'Bad'

"Dirty Diana" darted to the top of the Hot 100, making "Bad" the first set to generate five No. 1s. Plus, remembering feats by Drake, Nelly & New Kids on the Block.

Your weekly recap celebrating significant milestones from more than seven decades of Billboard chart history.

    June 27, 2009
Seven years ago today, Drake dominated Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs on his first try, as "Best I Ever Had" spent its first of seven weeks at No. 1. Drake has scored 16 total leaders on the chart since his arrival, the most among all acts in that short span. Lil Wayne ranks second with 6 No. 1s in that time.

    June 28, 2008
Even though it's called the Billboard Hot 100, that doesn't mean a band named Coldplay can't be No. 1. The group's "Viva La Vida" reached the summit eight years ago today.

    June 29, 2002
Nelly began a whopping 14-week command of the Billboard Hot 100, as "Hot in Herre" reached No. 1. After the song completed a seven-week reign, he replaced himself at the top for seven more weeks with "Dilemma," featuring Kelly Rowland.

    June 30, 1990
New Kids on the Block-mania rolled on, as "Step By Step" began a three-week rule atop the Billboard Hot 100. The goal of the instructional song? You remember: how "to get to you, girl."

    July 1, 1989
Perhaps surprisingly, Milli Vanilli didn't reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with its first smash, "Girl You Know It's True," which peaked at No. 2. On this date 27 years ago, however, the duo scored its first of three leaders with "Baby Don't Forget My Number."

    July 2, 1988
Michael Jackson made Billboard Hot 100 history, as "Dirty Diana" reached No. 1, becoming the fifth leader on the list from his album Bad. The set remains the only album by a male artist to produce five Hot 100 No. 1s. Since, only Katy Perry's Teenage Dream (2010-11) has also yielded five toppers.

    July 3, 2010
Miranda Lambert completed a four-week residence atop Hot Country Songs with her first No. 1, "The House That Built Me." The following February, the touching ballad earned her a Grammy Award for best female country vocal performance.
